late last year music for dreams released the digital album -debut- by bongo entp. this passion project from veteran studio session player jacob andersen brought us an unexpectedly fresh take on south american music traditions. on this new vinyl release, the project is both revisited and expanded upon. cherry picking some of the grooviest cuts from the album for this ep, we also get remix treatments from well sourced collaborators selvagem & carrot green. both hailing from brazil, these producers certainly know how to work latin percussion on a dancefloor. taking on the dreamy cover version of henri mancini’s classic -lujón- (original included too), carrot green ups the tempo and wrangles the elements of the original into something completely different. adding a house kick and dark acid undertones, he takes you on a wet trip with lots of twists and turns. the production duo of selvagem manage something similar with one of the looser bongo entp. jams. the original -foto feita do aviaõ is a jazzy scat sinaalong tune. in selvagem’s hands, it turns into an epic cosmic disco groover, locked into place by a muscular baseline. the vocal chants of the original are here, but used in a lower key and more sparingly to punctuate the bounce of the rhythm. the vinyl includes two other album highlights - the cafe del mar classic -el rey de pollo- , a santana-style chill-out affair featuring mikkel nordsø of bombay hotel fame and finally the moody -spanish winter- with its robotic reggae-like groove and syrup-thick synthesizers bubbling in a bittersweet fashion. a superb package.

neben der cd und der 2lp+cd mit coverversionen erscheint eine streng limitierte prachtbox, die nicht nur diese, sondern auch bisher unveröffentlichten originalaufnahmen aus den frühen neunziger jahren, sowie einer verspäteten extended version, die die band selbst noch einmal eingespielt hat enthält. neben den coverversionen, die ja eigentlich alle die zeitlosigkeit der sterne zelebrieren, findet sich in dem in jeglicher hinsicht hochwertigen lp-boxset (gestaltet von yannick riemer von isolation berlin) dann noch etwas, das wohl doch als relikt bezeichnet werden kann. zwei demos der sterne, kleine schritte stolpern und sturm über der hallig, zeigen auf 7-inch-vinyl eine frühe version der band, ganz im charme ihrer hanseatischen jugendlichkeit (1991). die sterne selbst und erobique, sowie pollyester auf der flip, markieren auf einer ebenfalls beiliegenden disco-12-inch das andere ende des zeitstrahls (2016). so werden die beigaben plötzlich zur klammer eines kleinen universums, in dem sich aufzeigt, dass musik am schönsten ist, wenn sie nach 25 jahren bandgeschichte noch immer zwischen lustvoller virtuosität und dem charme des dilettantismus zu pendeln vermag, bringt es hendrik otremba, sänger der band messer im info zum album auf den punkt.

für die vorabsingle ihres kommenden albums “galvany street”, eine kollaboration mit dem ex-archive sänger craig walker, haben sich booka shade “babylon” ausgesucht. neben craig walker ist darauf auch urdur, die sängerin des isländischen künstlerkollektivs gusgus zu hören. “babylon” vereint den typischen 90er manchester sound mit 80er jahre synth-pop und modernen beats & frischen sounds zu einem eingängigen uptempo pop hit.

its a pleasure to introduce tony rainwater, undoubtedly the most productive and creative savage weve come across recently. see usually we dont do this, lehult is a crew affair, but this guy left us no choice. being a music enthusiast, dj and dancer for a long time, tony has only most recently picked up producing his own music, yet at a stunning rate: when we first asked him for a demo, three months after he started producing, he swiftly dropped us a set of twenty-five tracks, another set of fifty more soon followed. his productions are straight rough edged, no-prisoners-taken jams, combining samples from the most far-flung corners of his eclectic music collection. his magical patchwork wild style is on full display on his debut rockberry jam ep for lehult. the a-side takes us through the lighter side of his repertoire with the title tracks slow building house groove, some dizzy medieval monk grooves on to all the world and seductive r&b on lay it on the line. on the flip operalight irresistible groove and black dream flowers provide some darker moments, before alone closes on a soft note. the vinyl version includes an extra goodie after the runouts. tony is now a fixed member of the crew already and were proud to have him and his crazy energy on the team. this wont be the last youll hear of him.

london producer bxentric releases his latest ep sakura fall . this is the third release from his own label nanda records, following the well-received patch valley and chrome eps. prior to launching his own label, bxentric released on eskimo recordings and glasgow underground. in november 2015 patch valley was included in maceo plex s essential mix for radio 1 and was supported by the likes of barnt, job jobse and bicep.

a monster calls is a fantasy drama film about a boy seeking the help of a tree monster to cope with his single mom’s terminal illness. ancient, wild, and relentless, the monster guides conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth.

after an ep on creme organization off-shoot jericho one as dj plant texture, dona basile now assumes his dona alias for a new ep on the main label. entitled the v.g.p sessions, it features four new cuts from the italian, with three of them being dj pt mixes. up first is a live cut version of energia , a bristling electro track with globular bass and coarse hits. turbulent but full of synth based serenity, it is a fine start. cigarettes (djpt mix) is rugged and broken, with glossy idm synths and corrugated drums all loosely arranged into something prickly and unsettling. the deads at twelve (djpt mix) then gets even more fucked up, with rusty synths and blown out drums making for a dystopian house groove that will likely soundtrack the apocalypse. last but not least, nr. 13 (djpt mix) mixes up detroit synths, wild acid, heavenly chords and chopped up, buried deep vocal samples into something that will fire every synapse in your body. this is outlier stuff from dona that sounds like little else.

in the fourth modern cathedrals release, altstadt echo crafts three original works with a focus on experimentation with broken beat structures and grainy percussive texture, against a backdrop of austere atmospheres. varg contributes a remix that emphasizes the despairing tones of the descent, contrasted with glistening treble percussion and and stumbling bass. to end the release, evigt mörker offers an extended hypnotic version of the track that slowly develops from a functional framework into an atmospheric drift. the thematic aspects of the release follow the development of modern cathedrals as a label, expressing existentialist themes centered around the search for meaning in a life that forbids it. the label art features photographs of the beautiful remains of one of detroits many unused churches

jackie is a biographical film from chilean director pablo larraín. starring natalie portman (black swan) in the title role, the movie follows jacqueline kennedy from the days when she was first lady of the white house to the aftermath of the assassination of john f. kennedy. critically lauded since its debut at the venice film festival where it won the best screenplay award, jackie also received the platform prize at the toronto international film festival and is a heavy favorite going into awards season.
the score to jackie was composed by experimental british musician mica levi, best known for her ethereal score to 2013’s sleeper hit under the skin. mournful and eerie with a touch of the surreal, levi has delivered an unmistakable musical tapestry every bit as iconic as jackie o herself.
jackie is getting the vinyl treatment. the mastered-for-vinyl score is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a heavy stock euro sleeve featuring black-and-white artwork of jackie. a download card containing a digital version of the album is also included.

east wall was an italian electronic dark wave band started by fabrizio chiari (ex keyboardist of kirlian camera) and wilma notari in 1982. “silence” was self released by the band in 1991.
we decided to expand the album, releasing it as a deluxe double lp cut louder at 45 rpm. we have also included an unreleased extended version of “ice of fire” and the bonus track “intro”, found on the dat tapes fabrizio chiari sent us. all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. it is housed in the original jacket, featuring a dramatically lit photograph of the band by andrea gambetta. each copy includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by intergalactic gary, who’s despair mix turned us onto to this album all songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in the original jacket featuring a photo of a boy by pushe 27. each copy includes a 2-sided postcard with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by flemming dalum.

they are dangerous is the second song released by senator gary. the riddim was build by the late great keyboard player winston wright (1944-1993) and the vocal was recorded at creative sound studio. the tune was produced by neville reid who died a few years ago. senator gary is also called imara, abbasani and now he is voicing under the name of i-maa-raa. so the quest to find him was not so easy, thanks to marshall neeko for the help.
