here we are with the last chapter of kruse & nuernbergs excellent debut album *lets call it a day*. released last fall on lazy days, the album was cherished by the press and topped the digital sales charts of various genres from deep house to nu disco and chill out. remixers so far came in from such great talents as spirit catcher, shur-i-kan and nathan g, this time it is up to mario basanov, wolf + lamb and fred everything.

knox is the band brainchild of brother-sister duo nic and eliza coolidge. hailing from boston and new york, the siblings released their second ep, here, on december 3rd, and it is a big step forward for the band. formed less than two years ago, in march 2011, knox finds themselves working with the likes of john tejada and kuxxan suum on this release, and the outcome is stunning. here is five-song set full of ice and echoes. it runs as close to the third rail of impersonation, but flies away so quickly that knox sounds contextual and perfectly fresh. the influences from james blake is clear: the swooping, bomber bass and half-timey compressed dub beats, here could also easily be an inventive b-side to the latest how to dress well album. but, with the limited scale, interspersed remixes and foundling status in the scene, i would say it is likely a more impressive feat. the ep as a whole is desolate. expansive spaces filled with cold little beats and vocal washes, exploring in the course of five songs an icescape aesthetic with a sense of place usually reserved for full-length albums. the remixes blend so seamlessly that i didnt even realize they were during my first, casual listen.

brilliant 90s infected house, coloured vinyl

john heckle (undisputed king of da real scouse house and fast becoming one of the most prolific young techno producers from the uk) deviates ever so slighty from his trademark sound to paddle his little raft down the mersey and run wild with the wolves. the result is epic and mystic (and 100% organic) and opens a doorway into a mythical world of wicker men, hill figures, druids, witch covens and early 90s sunrises off the m25, when ever-e-thing seemed possible. excellent new artwork as well by godspill, who is also into naked chicks that float and stuff. a deadly combination!

atjazz & fred everything are back together again. their last collaboration dates 2010 on lazy days but the pair have been friends since the late 90s and have collaborated and remixed each other countless times. the beast and the ghost explores the deeper, dubber side of their production. the project was started in derby and finished in san francisco, while atjazz worked on his inside dub from home. this will be featured on the upcoming lazy dubs compilation, out in january.

the better days series is back with a bang! 4 superb disco / house reworks - this time from donald trumpet.

for signal life #03, we teamed up two young vigorous south londoners: mr. louis carnell, known by his moniker visionist, and mr. marco giuliani, who works under the alias last japan. >control this< by visionist combines his background in south london grime with his signature drum machine template and lo-fi vocal excerpts into a coherent mesh. our favourite visionist track to date! when we first heard >storm trooper< by last japan, it was the tension we got caught up in. the song is focused with a clear direction, uncommon in most young talent, armed with a driving snare-fill rhythm reminiscent of south rap and all that exiting stuff in the 160 bpm. i believe murky is the correct term. we predict interesting things for mr. giuliani.

this is the last teaser before the release of the kruse & nuernberg album >lets call it a day<, featuring, yet again, the beautiful vocals of stee downes. on remix duties, we have lazy days regular shur-i-kan with two completely different flavors. his 80s vocal mix is a beautiful update of the original, speeding up the tempo for peak time play, while his 90s dub is a straight up stripped down classic house re-work. first time on the label, we welcome nathan g with another fine remix that can be played at just about any time of the night. lastly, we have the original in all its beauty, at its slower original tempo.
