liverpool-based producer bantam lions has long been part of the scenery records family, helping label boss asok launch the imprint with 2012s one to one ep. here he returns with his third 12 inch for the label. lead cut *recollections* is particularly good, delivering a deep and attractive fusion of fuzzy analogue warm, dreamy melodies and intoxicating chords. he ups the tempo further on *many years later*. which layers dubbed-out chords and swirling textures over an energy-packed techno groove. the accompanying remixes are pretty tasty, too, with the cyclist particularly impressing with his detroit techno-goes-lo-fi interpretation of *recollections*. that said, the dreamy, new age-influenced downtempo take from mood hut regular cloudface is pretty darn good, too.

black rox is back with 2 more sneaky soft rocks specials that have somehow been liberated from locked cd wallets and released into the wild for general consumption. the a side sabu dance combines horns, flutes & percussion on this killer slice of midtempo funk from africa via berlin. this has been thoroughly road tested by soft rocks at their kinfolk night & never fails to get a great response from the dancefloor. side b. don t worry it s not the tantric one s ode to voyeurism but a rare as hens teeth slice of uk. reggae at is s finest. adjustments have been made sensitively and sounds have been chosen to carefully match those from the appropriate era. a perfect track for blissful summer evenings (yeah whatever!).

londoners kiwi and ashworth return to sneaky for a follow-up to dawn ep, the warm, dusty and at times experimental release, championed by the likes of daniel avery, eric duncan and tiefschwarz. the past few months have been busy for both halves of the duo, with kiwi signing to duke dumont s blase boys club and remixing for house music super-labels bpitch control and get physical, whilst ashworth has signed music to tomoki tamura s holic trax and needwant. second ep takes a new format, with two original tracks alaska and na am on the a-side, backed up by a nicholas & marcoradi remix of cux3 and ranacat s remix of zubr. alaska could be described as an amalgamation of the inspirations that lead to the first sneaky release, combining the pumping house beats of cux3, the comforting wurlitzer of zubr and the ethereal movie-soundtrack dusk. na am is something totally different, existing mainly as a collage of recorded and found sounds, avoiding the usual structure of house music in favour of something reminiscent of the weirder side of the chemical brothers. strange though the track may be, the climax would undoubtedly move a room full of pilled up ravers to a state of frenzy. the b-side remixes both hint to dance floors of the 90s, with nicholas and marcoradi making you wait and wait before dropping an unforgettable piano hook, whilst sneaky s ranacat lifts zubr out of context and into peak time territory.

modelmaker is a new london label from the collective minds of dan berkson and james what. the esteemed house duo has long been garnishing a range of international imprints with their inventive analogue house and techno sounds, but now they are focussing on their own outlet. initially launching with a couple of self penned eps, release number three will be the pair s long-time-in-the-making debut album, and after that a considered selection of other talents will join the ranks as the label pushes on. always primarily focussed on machine made, texturally rich house and techno, each release will come with unique artwork based on works from what s great grandfather, conrad felixmuller, who was a well known german expressionist.

is it purposely ironic that guysfromneighbourhood are releasing on a label thats named after a part of east london thats as gentrified as it is dishevelled? speech less is whats been delivered and its a popping, deeply dubby and smooth production thats made for the dusk of a berlin afternoon thats becoming evening. argentine producer nacho bolognani beefs up the original with something more solidified (youll find yourself dancing to the bassline not the beats), while matt rich delivers more of a reduction than remix. a strong debut release.

proud yorkshire label hudd traxx have been putting out a reliable stream of quality deep house since 2005, with artists like dj sneak, rick wade, iron curtis, jay bliss and agnes just some of the many names to appear on the label. this 46th release features three debutants, while the fourth name, j.t. donaldson, spearheads the release with a wishy-washy, bassline driven deep house vocal cut -got myself together-. hudd traxx provides dusseldorf producer maximiljan with his first physical release with the track -son of a- which merges the linear 909 house style of norm talley with smooth chords and cheeky vocals similar to the now defunct swiss house duo azuni. but most interesting for the label on this release, it s the two new names in professional gigolo and tuneon that prove hudd traxx still know where to look when it comes to unearthing new and vibrant talent.

london/venezuela production duo juan laya & jorge montiel aka los charlys orchestra take influences from salsoul, fania, donna summer, cerrone, herbie hancock and even jamiroquay and blend them with their very unique style of production in order to deliver their latest anthem of neo latin disco. after a few months of experimentation across different sounds los charlys are back into their main arena with an outstanding new single entitle everlasting love. los charlys orchestra were first known by their initial disco/funk period and more recently by their infectious latin/funk sound, which has been buzzing all around the place for the past couple of years. this new single expresses a cross road in between the two periods of lco bringing up a new perspective for the future of this outfit.

vacuum geometry ep is the first release of the 30drop project. four tracks have been edited, to further on be understood as a conclusion of the experiment and evolution of detroit techno on one hand, and as a dark and industrial european techno on the other hand. with this, a new a mix of styles is born, acquiring a particular and differential sound expressed by hypnotic, synthetic and cosmic textures, and by oppressive and evocative pads.

rothmans is back with there 7th release and this time they pay homage to german playmaker paul breitner . the ep comes in the form of rising manchester producer ste spandex , fresh off the back of his remix of coyote our on rothmans 6 , and has been recorded 100% live on analogue eqiupment , not a computer in sight !!!! . the ep finds rothmans taking a slightly different and more up tempo vibe to it but still retains the psychadelic nu disco feel of many of there earlier releases. spandex has had a little help from his friends in the form of kickin pigeon and metrodome , both fresh out of the manchester underground. this is rothmans first all manchester release and sees them really cemeting the label in there surroundings.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.
