the second edition of the mosso series adheres to its archetypal plan, as alejandro mosso leads us forwards on his musical trek and through the grooves carved onto this record. for this new number, alejandro mosso decided to delve back into his archives and take a closer listen to some forgotten, unfinished pieces. some listeners will surely recognise certain bits of this record as they were part of mossos live performance years ago. this is however the first time they will be edited and see the light of day. on the a-side, aconcagua is a festive theme on which a magnetic marimba riff turns into an escalating melody, surrounded by a forest of ascending percussions - characteristic of mossos production – lightly floating around it. cashmere, the flip, was conceived while airborne on a flying carpet, half way above the indian subcontinent and below the countles gleaming stars. perfect instance of alejandro mossos talent, it is a subtle blend of hovering winds and crystallized textures. the bansuri flute and the clave go hand in hand to form reassuring horizons, the soundtrack for a longer moment of hope, greater perspective and spiritual transformation.

the first world unknown 12 inch of 2012 is a double header of throbbing midtempo techno and as with all world unknown releases from now on both tracks have been mastered for vinyl from ½ inch tape for maximum sonic excellence. on side w semtek from dont be afraid joins forces with his afterparty alter-ego chardonnay and a certain rather well known og hipster poet on >tacos for dinner<, an extremely modern and massively psychedelic trip into the outer mind. this clicking, bleeping, fizzing and throbbing ten minute excursion has been road tested from acetate by andy blake for many months and always sends the club somewhere very special and ever so slightly scary. on side u scott fraser delivers >remains the same<. its a notch or two less pacey than side w but no less powerful or psychedelic. its earthy vibe and pounding, throbbing tones have been part of andrew weatheralls sets for some time now and its not hard to see why. when the full percussion finally comes crunching in like a breakbeat on top of the ever-present heavyweight bassline its disco pandemonium time. in short, possibly the best 12 inch so far from wu.

ncql annouces himself in no uncertain fashion with the anthemic strings of >the framed dreams of loki<. the track nods to dj premier, prefuse 73 and classic metalheadz d&b hidden agenda style and theres a subtle (!) reference to a certain classic 90s rave tune in there aswell. it sounds like a mess – its anything but! this is uplifting breakbeat at its very best. its not often a tune gets played twice by bailey on his bbc 1xtra show in the space of a month, so this must be something special. the flipside has a similar organic & uplifting aesthetic. a strutting break is the base for a deluge of warmth in the shape of synths, strings, flutes, harp and vocals – an unusual sound palette for a drum & bass track these days but refreshing to hear. dj flight thought so and has aired it on one of her next chapter rinse fm broadcasts.

achterbahn d amour is courtesy of edit piafra & iron curtis. rooted in nu&#776,,,,rnberg, city of love. jx2 is another slammer, guided by lush pads and some quirky acidish bassline that cuts from your left brain to your right brain and then straight to the next dancefloor. there is no escape, dont even try! the other side of the platter has more to offer: the middle of is a high standard dj tool with heart. repetitive loops all over and no end in sight. but(t)! exactly the right amount of dirt to keep you movin and shakin that hips. oh, we have to admit, no rnb samples were used at all. sorry guys! if youre into pop music with a certain love for jackin house music, youll probably go for into the wilde. this song was recorded just before a mad club gig in berlin and you know what to expect: pitcheddown and pitched-up vocals, a live bass and drum machine workouts galore. frank says: these guys are hot as hades. early plays by gilbr (chateau flight), axel boman, basic soul unit, hunee, san soda, roberto rodriguez, red rack em, sasse, ethyl, patlac, matthias vogt (motorcitysoul), francis inferno orchestra, snuff crew & foffie.

having played host to the first two daphni edits 12 inches, resista return with the label debut of one tom croose.
one half of ny duo worst friends, toms previous discographic output was a limited & stamped 7 inch that featured a killer edit of the macs >never going back again<. for resista no. 3 he delves into territories brazilian, with >cho chua<, a faultless rework of a certain tropicalista, designed for discerning dancefloors, circa ad 2011. he loops up the swinging guitar intro, which combined with the vocal hook makes for a heady mix. its an uplifting, joyous ode to all things tropical!
on the flip the >dukes dub< is a subtler more restrained version that makes greater use of effects and surprisingly brings the songs percussive elements to the fore... not quite as direct as its sibling on the a-side but definitely as effective!

volta cab has made quite an impact on the nu disco / deep house scene since last year. he is a multitalented, versatile producer, performing brilliantly in a range from from nu disco, deep house, soul, techno to breakbeat. approaching music in an open way, he is not restricting himself to a certain genre, catching the zeitgeist. on serenades, volta cab takes us back to 1992 with a 4 tracker called >house of the rising fire ep<. all of the tracks are heavily influenced by rave and house soundscapes of the early 90s. think of early prodigy, altern8, rachel wallace and baby d, combined with a modern nu disco twist.

producer oliver ho aka raudive is not a dark horse. two years after his acclaimed abc ep he returns to rrygular with his new release >love is the devil<. straight and facing forward but also back to the roots somehow. that doesnt need to be a compromise. it is a symbiosis that works absolutely fine in case of this particular 2-tracker. like always the englishman knows how to use percussion elements without getting cheesy. a certain reference to electro is obvious but it underlines the typical dirty raudive sound rather than trying to be referential. but who needs genres anyway? club-disco-techno-house-funk-electro - some kind of monster!

there is a certain dynamic that emerges whenever andre galluzzi and dana ruh pair up to create a record. with last year s >freya / mauersegler< split ep on ostgut ton, the two have already hit up some of the most prestigious labels in the electronic music landscape. tracks that are upbeat, driving, and, most of all, fresh have characterized their co-productions, which now have aras as a home. taking its cues from their label nights at berlin s panorama bar, galluzzi and ruh have solidified aras into an imprint based around expanding upon the creative energy that both share. their first release, >trambolla<, harmonizes each artist s approach into a grooving whirlwind that showcases their ability as producers as well as live musicians.starting off with the title track >trambolla<, the ep begins with tribal beats and infectious arrangements that seamlessly build upon each other along the course of the a-side. grooving from the start, it is the kind of track where the listener or the dj gets into the vibe right away. the percussion of >trambolla< especially stands out amongst the latin-tinged bongos, hi-hats, and hand claps that interchangeably come in and out of the track, a journey of its own at 9 minutes. >thelema<, the b-side, contrasts with the lightness of the a-side and demonstrates galluzzi and ruh s equal comfort in creating darker and heavily pounding tracks. the ten minute track grows out of a simple beat and growls ever louder as it takes in more intensity with its cascade of filters, delays, and booming bass. aside from the hard edge of >thelema<, it also provides a preview into the live set that the two artists are about to debut together.

what do you call musicians like com truise? he seems easy enough to pin down—throw out some words like nostalgia, synth-wave, eighties, and electro-funk and you will scrape by—but to be truly insightful about his music is tough, because art that is so blatantly referencing certain things in a certain way while also making them weird and new and unique is confusing. how do you classify something that is so obviously both vintage and current but is too fun to call postmodern? awesome is an option. especially when it sounds like you are driving the knight rider car through thick clouds of nitrous oxide, like >fairlight<, the title track from truises new single, which previously appeared on an iso50 comp called dry waves and also has this jarring, falling-all-over-itself middle section that prevents you from trancing out too hard. >beta eyes<, the track that follows, is even more restless, with a drum pattern that is fidgety and clustered, kicks and snares fighting each other like two drum and bass heads arguing over an atari remote. >polyhurt<, a narcotic, almost ballad-like closer that inevitably leaves you thinking, >now, how the hell am i going to describe that to someone?< the vinyl exclusive cut >colorvision< could be truises most dancefloor friendly track yet.

raoul records is very happy to welcome liviu groza for the fourth release of the label. after his china charm ep on cityfox just before this summer, he is back with 3 tracks that fit perfectly with the sound of the label. it certainly has something to do with house and techno, but livius personal touch is quickly modifying our expectations, for the pleasure of our ears. there is an authentic energy in livius work and the a-side track >no love< is a perfect example of that. what starts with a typical filtered techno loop is suddenly brought to another level with a huge melodic bass line and then with two chords that enlight the track with a certain melancholy. the b-side starts with another killer bass line. >the manimals< bass line is a snake that enrolls its body around every other element: a great house groove and an hypnotic piano. liviu is a snake charmer! the 3rd track >mean fine< seems to be the perfect b2 track. what sounds rather quiet and reduced when you first listen to it, turns itself into an efficient old school dj tool with such groovy hats and hypontic vocals once played on a proper sound system!

this new ep from j. phlip fits that description nicely. deep and dirty with filthy ghetto sample drops. in the 1840s a certain neighborhood in san francisco was nicknamed, the barbary coast. it was described as -the haunt of the low and the vile of every kinda dance-halls and concert-saloons, where blear-eyed men and faded women drink vile liquor, smoke offensive tobacco, engage in vulgar conduct, sing obscene songs and say and do everything to heap upon themselves more degradation, are numerous.- lots of people think they know about sf basslines but only a few actually can pull it off. jessica is one of those people. she is one of my favorite djs on earth and her new ep shows why she fits in so well with at dirtybird. big basslines, quirky ideas, and a general sense of mischief make this ep stick out from all the matchy matchy tracks out there.

rennbahn records welcomes a new member of the family, rich.vom.dorf. grown up in a small village at the lovely countryside in mecklenburg-vorpommern, he decided to move to hamburg a couple of years ago. his debut ep on rennbahn bauernglueck in a certain way reflects the way of life at a countryside through his own intrumental techhouse style. if you listen carefully enough, you might be able to picture how the farmer is dancing with his wife on his farm, after doing his daily job. this ep puts nearly everybody a smile on his face, while dancing open air. basti grub ( desolat / hoehenregler ) produced a remix with a hypnotic & driving touch, which is also simply perfect for the summer. altogether 4 tracks with a lot of good mode!

further to motor city drum ensembles dj kicks compilation, his exclusive single l.o.v.e. has been reworked by the young detroit prodigy kyle hall, the painter and music creator wolfgang voigt and an excellent remix by smallpeople. kyle has been highly influenced and captivated by the underground deep house sound of detroit. inspired by artists such as theo parrish, mike huckaby, rick wade, 3 chairs, kdj and omar s, who believe their music has a certain feeling of the advant garde and liberation from the so-called rules people place upon dance music. kyle took that principle of their music and applied it to music that he was trying to create. wolfgang voigt is known for his numerous, nearly inexhaustible list of one-off projects and aliases. of these, his best known is arguably >gas< a project that saw the marriage of ambient music and 4/4 techno. his remix of motor citys l.o.v.e shows his minimalistic approach to music he has been famed for worldwide. smallpeople are julius steinhoff & just von ahlefeld aka dionne. smallpeople are focused on a wider range of music and can be diverse- between deep house, detroit techno and some chicago flavours but always within the balance of atmospheric warmth and club suitability bringing yet another perfect addition to this remix package. watch out for more big tunes from smallpeople in the near future

silicone souls darkroom dubs label has pulled off quite a coup with their latest release. taking a retrospective look through the labels archive, the duo approached some of their favourite producers, asking them to rework and give their own take some of the music from previous releases... and boy are we in for a treat! the coup in question was the securing of the talents of a certain mr robag wruhme. currently enjoying the acclaim generated from his exquisite long player, >thora vukk< (pampa), wruhme has kindly turned his attention to remixing extrawelts >neuland< for darkroom dubs. the lead track from their 2010 >neuland< marked a key moment for the label, as silicone soul celebrated the signing of an act that they had admired for many years. robag provides not one, but two reworks of the stunning original, each as impressive and moving as the other. the second rework sees john selway turning filippo mancinelli & allen mays >the hills< on its head. the deepness of the 2009 original, is still in evidence as the atmospheric sounds sweep within selways wonderfully driving tech reconstruction.

played and supported by: adam x, ben klock, samuli kemppi, dvs1, edit-select, norman nodge, oliver ho, perc, shifted, cio d or, max_m, lucy and more... m_rec ltd continues to ascend as one of the the most interesting labels in the techno scene. today s release sees giorgio gigli (prologue music, zooloft, electric deluxe, elettronica romana, etc.) sign two original tracks and a remix of one of the most important artists of the past few years: terence fixmer (electric deluxe, prologue music, etc.). together, their approach creates something special and unique. in its original track giorgio gigli delivers the best of its hypnotic and psychedelic techno. a great atmosphere, where the ambient pads meet the dark bass sound which made giorgio one of the most significant artists in the new techno scene. the side closes with an ambient session, a drone of pure electronic,dark synth, making the idea of the state of mind of his own individual unconscious.terence fixmers version is decidedly more rough, stripped of certain atmospheres, highlighting a more hypnotic and repetitive attitude. this rough sounds have for many years marked terence fixmer as an icon of the techno world. this is a great release of modern techno!

after the roaring success of nicolas jaars space is only noise album the fine curatorial heads at circus company hq have enlisted 2 of their nearest, dearest and most talent co-conspirators for the first round of remix duties. having built a cult following and peerless reputation for his remixes of everyone from roy ayers to cassius, pépé bradock turns in no less than 3 versions of too many kids finding rain in the dust. the proceedings begin with his blind pig mix, an echoing tunnel of balkan strings and dusty samples connecting the lands of disco and hip hop to blinding effect. the train fantôme poke follows and is certain to find its way into many a discerning dj bag in the weeks and months to come, with its mathew herbert-esque syncopations and grinding industrial scrapes and psychedelic whispers. dave aju takes up the baton on the flip turning the albums title track into the kind of late 80s dance floor work out martin hannet would have been proud of, certain to appeal to fans of recent work by matias aguayo, rebolledo and the comeme camp.

simoncino (aka nick anthony) from italian super edit label no more hits crosses the atlantic and finds a new home with on the prowls sub-label party breaks. what immediately stands out upon first listen is the production style, not being able to tell what is a sample and what has been replayed... much like tensnakes mega hit. the simoncino sound is firmly rooted in proto-house and 80s r&b. with ingredients like ancient drum machines, arpeggiated melodies, and cheap 80s pads, his concoction boils over with a certain cheekiness that makes listeners grin from ear to ear. all four tracks are subtle hits in their own right. excellent ep!

big with: adam beyer: >..summer anthem!< , joseph capriati, samuel l session, davide squillace, danny howells, sian, karotte, laurent garnier, joel mull, marco bailey, sebrok, gregor tresher, diesel, alan fitzpatrick, ... with barely a breath after dmb004 comes another exclusive release from alexander kowalskis new label damage music berlin. the 1 inch >random pleasure< is the work of swiss electronic music dj, composer and producer david durango. in his numerous releases (pokerflat & mescene records) durango balances between deep and dark grooves to melodious and quirky dub vibes: here he oscillates between both levels. starting with the title track, the structure reveals consciously tight and multi-layered percussive hooks under the blanket of a substantial, dreamy bassline. the addition of a subtle, melancholic vocal sample ensures hypnotic effect. >ambivalus< walks right into a rather old school vibe, gathering strength with ever-increasing, spiraling keyboard stabs reminiscent of earlier rave eloquence that compels certain dancefloor revelry. the flip side sees the title track remixed by kowalski who treats the matter with his vivacious bite, stretching the voice, injecting a warbled fuzz bass and after a sublime break, enlarges the work to infectious dance dimensions. respected frankfurt artist patrick lindsey (terminal m & funkwelle) remixes the track additionally: he dissects the vocals, keeping the bass and keyboards minimally tight and sharply symmetric for a very mesmerizing treatment.

there are certain songs that are so very good, the only singular word that accurately describes them is satisfying. >wait & see< is one of those: an aural pleasure that scratches an itch and hits the spot so precisely, it almost feels like self-denial not to listen on repeat. on holy ghost!s latest ep, the absurdly catchy single from their self-titled 2011 debut gets a makeover from three of dance musics titans: cfcf, kris menace and richard x. and while this batch of remixes finds the artists behind each track steering in new directions, each finds a way to capitalize on the irresistible danceability of the original.

yam who?s ism label come through with a four track slice of disco centric futurism, featuring the man yam himself alongside pbr streetgang and ron basejam. its the latter who takes the lead with a remix of alenas >changes< that sees her sultry vocal teased by a most excellent of analogue synth leads that splurges brilliantly across the crisp mid tempo chug. yam who? teams up with vocalist natasha watts for the similarly bottom heavy bump of >i m in love< which has a certain warehouse appeal to it. on the flip, pbr pay respect to the godfather of soul james brown with the gritty flex of >j2thab< with the sadly departed mr brown strangely sounding at times like he wants to go to tesco. we always took him for a waitrose man, but regardless this is probably the track you will reach for most! finally brothers young do their thing to a trammps classic, with little more than the bassline retained.

certain detroit dweller with the initials kw returns to boe with a magnificently original and varied ep, featuring his own signature sound yet still managing to touch upon multiple genres. thunderous kick drums and a chi-town swing fill the whole ep and balance off kws haunting melodies and raw techno arrangements

almost three years after their release >lake<, odessa appear appealing their scene again. actually, their privacy breaktime should not have been a musical discontinuance, too. but as it sometimes goes things happen abruptly. although the ep >memory leak< already was pre-produced in 2009 it got just recently a detailed finishing. leave off the idea these tracks could have had their half-life already, not at all. odessa stay here and now, presenting reduced, cool-organic house with wide atmospheres. even though odessa music keeps ascetical aesthetics since the beginning a certain pathos can deeply be felt. once again, but just for one track (>l aurore<), frederique frankes exceptional voice comes to effect.
