as non state’s inaugural release, the lake ep by jarvus is a textural exploration into unknown realms, with each passing movement painting imagery of coarse landscapes, from the rolling, insomniac daze of “rock pools”, filled with warm, bouncing bass sequences and synth-pad whirlwinds, to the submersible resonance of “lake mist”, projecting feelings of fragility and under-water claustrophobia as tribal-esque rhythms act as a calming mantra.
produced by processing all kinds of expressive sounds through various guitar pedals and using circuit bending or diy instruments, jarvus fuses downtempo-techno into atmospheric, mesmerising movements rather than folding into conventional structures.

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen’s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum’s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven’s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

down by the lake is happy to present saile, a young musician who was born and raised in berlin. what instantly caught us was the timelessness of every single element within the sound of saile. though being at young age his hardware-only tracks are sweating of love for the golden era of us house music. map.ache (kann/ giegling) takes in the end to another hypnotic level, his version is a proper workout, to be heard on the trippy dancefloors across the world soon! drawings & typography by stefan marx.

italian label spazio disponibile continues its fine run of form with a new ep that features four collaborative tracks by the bosses voices from the lake (aka donato dozzy and neel) versus semantica boss svreca. the ep is a result of their first studio session all together in rome. all three have been perfecting cinematic ambient techno for years now and have the cerebral, atmospheric aesthetic down to a tee. here they offer up proof across a series of hypnotic tracks that take you deep into your own mind. it s alien and abstract yet wholly consuming and will zone you out in no time.

lake people, the man with a knack for aural subtleties, is spot-on with his first ep for uncanny valley. over the course of four tracks he showcases a quiet different approach compared to the sophisticated house music the leipzig based artist released on labels like permanent vacation or connaisseur recordings. on -break the pattern- he relies heavily on the good old boom tschak-paradigm of electro, without completely giving up his trademark sound. -level msk- combines staccato-type chords with a stuttering beat that stick in your mind. the acidic -september futuristic- with its stoic drumming has almost a krautrock feel to it. on the flipside, the playful -chords in chorus- feels like an early contender for this year s summer anthem with chords and acid lines from heaven. the ep closes with -pull off-, a perfect example for lake people s ability to compose tracks with an emotional depth.

repress 2017 - geophone presents a very special various artists ep. the a side is a hypnotic monster by voices from the lake called “reptilicus , a science fictional techno masterpiece. on the b side, shifted delivers a powerful remix of the mike parker track “mnajdra , a floor destroying heavy hitter. the ep closes wth a unique and moody contribution by stanislav tolkachev titled “heartbeat” which demonstrates the versatility and emotional depth of this talented artist.

next up creme organization is a return by regular artist lake haze. following his natural insight ep earlier in the year comes intergalactic communicationz, four more fresh tracks of acid, techno and electro that is brilliantly evocative. the portuguese artist known as goncalo salgado also please son labels like unknown to the unknown and is a real hardware master. at the gates ov futron is a turbulent lack track with zipping acid and a cacophony of percussion that is visceral as well as cinematic. drexciyan aquarium is, as the name suggest, an aqueous electro track that slithers and slides through an expansive underwater world. poseidon s dream then offers a more rugged electro groove that is backed by heavenly pads and a real sense of loss in the synths. last of all, intergalactic communication closes out this far travelling and intergalactic ep with a sci-fi deep house track that is filled with light, 909s and a sense that the end of the world is coming.

camila fuchs (meaning fox in german) are the london based experimental electronic duo of camila de laborde and daniel hermann-collini (from mexico and munich respectively). after pursuing solo endeavours in various projects both camila and daniel left their native countries and gravitated towards london due to its vibrant and eclectic attitudes to different cultures and the arts.

goncalo salgado aka lake haze first came onto the scene in 2014, with a release on dj haus’s ­ unknown to the unknown imprint. since his impressive inception to the scene, lake haze’s sound has developed and evolved massively, so much so, that in 2015 he created an incredible offering for dutch label creme organisation, which featured a legowelt remix. the four track ep, features dark synthy productions on the a side, with more club friendly acid cuts on the flip. packaged in full sleeve artwork, limited press.

creme organization turn to the mysterious ivvvo and lisbon producer lake haze for a new single that comes backed with a remix from label regular legowelt. the single 1 is a hard hitting but fuzzy, misty and hugely spacious house track with deep jacking drums, haunting synths spiralling all around and freaky voices buried deep within. hugely atmospheric and lovably imperfect, it then gets remixed by legowelt. his version of the track flips it on its head, strips back some of the white noise fuzz and reimagines it as a driving techno cut with impish chords, retro arps and high pressure stabs. its a peak time bomb and ensures that this release is a high impact one indeed.

after collaborating with droid brothers raiz back in 2012, jeff derringer returns to electric deluxe with his first solo effort for the label - a solid two-tracker of rigorous dancefloor material weve come to expect from the chicago resident. behind the decks, jeff derringer is a name well known as founder and visionary of the renowned oktave parties in the us.
