gynoid audio, one of the few female labels around, started her course in 2010. she s now one of the most prolific labels when it comes to a variety of functional techno, with focus on drive, mood, dirt and depth. the amount of well-established veterans (both old and new) who released or remixed for the label, or newcomers who saw their career start on gynoid, is impressive. it also describes why its one of the most charted labels in it s field of operation. to celebrate the mains series 100th release and the continuance of the label we decided to preset a massive va compilation spanning over three releases. here is a limited green vinyl of the second volume from the 100th compilation, featuring brand new tracks by audio injection, black hats, mattias fridell, rraph.

love pain sunshine & rain aka lopasura, on only its second release is evidently becoming a force to be reckoned with. benedikt freys distinct rugged aesthetics toy with some conceptual ideas for each contribution, flirting with greek mythologies, romantic legends and the idea of intricate layered meanings and rhetorics for the ep as a whole. coarse kick drums and clattering percussions are used in conjunction with epic industrial and machine-like synth lines, beautifully engineered and held together by the mixed emotions and moody atmospheres present in all three tracks. the genuine and heart-felt intent with frey’s work is undeniable, producing a fine and certain quality that will surely resonate with anyone in favour of the live and raw musical attributes he is skillfully displaying with each new release.

following their eponymously titled 2016 arrival on midlands graded imprint, as well as a recent followup on dark entries, solitary dancer return to the label on which they made their debut. once again, this three-track 12inch blends electro, ambient, and acid to superb, undeniably modern effect. with a running time of nearly 12-minutes, the title track transmitting to heaven is an ambitiously sweeping cut that subtly moves through its various shades, from electro and acid, to strobe-lit 90s rave. the b-side kicks off with birth of saturn, built around an arpeggiating synth that shifts and morphs throughout the track as the intensity ascends. the 12inch closes off with ‘at the end of the corridor of love, a loss’, a slow burning ambient piece that is as sombre as it is cinematic.

michigan central station built in 1913 for the michigan central railroad, was detroit, michigans passenger rail depot from its opening in 1913 until the discontinuance of amtrak service on january 6, 1988. at the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world. the building, located in the corktown district of detroit still stands today, though it remains unoccupied. restoration projects and plans have gone as far as the negotiation process, but none have come to fruition. spread throughout the city of detroit and its surrounding metropolitan area, the decay of once magnificent buildings during the industrial revolution and automobile era now cast a shadow of despair on a once flourishing city. these monuments of achievement now lay barren and forsaken by city government. infrastructural restoration and city development are fundamental elements in detroits recovery, and the recovery of cities worldwide. it is time for revival in our cities, but first, in our souls. the michigan central station ep is a platform for this change.
