next up on spazio disponibile is a pair of artists who played the party of the same name at goa, rome last year. their name is crossing avenue and their mo is to make experimental techno in a hi fidelity style that is as cerebral as it is physical. here they do so across four fantastic tracks.

after the success of the broad and powerful second lp alone in time?, Ø phase continues his ongoing connection to token with the submerged metropolitan ep. the title track enters with burchett s own brand of unease, the lead is tense and discordant, moving over a bumpy, rolling kick. brushing off-beat hats rush overhead and play delicately with this unease above the thunder. a vague spoken word sample adds texture and contributes to the cerebral edge. ethereal swells and intense rhythmic play introduce fallen columns, which delves into atonality with keys that add a controlled recklessness to the composition. this absent mind takes on a hypnotic, dubby form with a confidence that belies its complexity. a sublime breakdown introduces the heavier second half of the track, which enters impressively and batters on to the end.

the second release on tb arthurs (312) label finds the mysterious artist revealing a collaborative project with magda as blotter trax. the pair first encountered each other at the famous motor city record store record time, when detroit artist bmg introduced his then co-workers magda and derek plaslaiko to arthur, who was visiting the shop from chicago. sometime after that meeting, magda and arthur went into the studio and jammed together for a week, the session was recorded live on analog 1/4 tape and then three tracks were selected for release. 1a is six and a half minutes of modulated synth sounds that are psyched out and sci-fi, spooky and truly atmospheric. full of cerebral cinematism, acid lines and ghoulish textures all add up to a truly standout track. 2a then marries dark wave pops and clicks, unsettling alien lifeforms and menacing, slo motion industrial drums into a physical and imposing groover riddled with paranoid sirens and drones. last of all, 2b snakes and slithers its way through undulating drums, cosmic freakiness and gloopy synth sounds that are all seductive and subversive in equal measure. this, then, is a truly fascinating pairing.

australian label nightime drama, run by peter fincher (aka vibrio) and shaun franklin (aka trebek) now serves up its second standout release of 2016. this four track affair comes hot on the heels of the last by yoshihiro arikawa, and is a second release on the label by aussie live act, dj and producer trinity, with steven tang and italian based andee on the remix. trinity has also released on ooc, coincidence and android muziq and regularly performs all round europe. his sound deep and cosmic, heady and hypnotic, as the fresh tracks here prove. cascade drive is seven minutes of direct and elastic house with spacey pads and driving drums carrying you through the cosmos. from the earthmothern label and one half of rk s, andee strips it back to a slick rubber kick drum then layers in a forceful acid line and icy hi hats to really get you under its spell. the longform groove is physical and cerebral in equal measure. the next original is expansion, and again finds trinity serving up a hi tech and soul infused deep techno sound that is lithe and liquid, smeared with great pads and truly timeless. emphasis boss steven tang is the perfect man to remix given his style, and his version flips the cut into a more heavyweight and banging techno effort, but one that is just as littered with sci fi sounds, spaceship trails and intergalactic energies.

keeping with the rough release rate of an album every couple of years, prime numbers label boss trus me is back with his fourth full length, planet 4. featuring nine cuts of intergalactic techno and once again marking a considerable sonic evolution for this acclaimed uk artist. never one to do the same trick twice, david james wolstencroft uses his latest album as a vehicle for his own interest in deep space, physics and dark matter. it is those subjects that have occupied his mind in recent years, and those subjects that inform this brilliantly otherworldly album. where previous lps have variously been funk and soul heavy, or openly analogue and physical, this one is a more subtle and supple techno affair that is as cerebral as it is seductive. starting with a monologue that suggests that man has already landed on mars, 1979 is a cut that immediately places you somewhere in orbit. spooky synths and sci-fi sounds are eerie and atmospheric and very much set a perfect tone. from there, there is slow, elastic and unsettling mood music on the unexplained , deep and insular techno on dark flow and trippy dan bell style minimalism on ring round heart . the second half of the lp touches on chunky dub, manic and melodic grooves. this is a coherent statement that holds together conceptually and musically. as well as providing plenty of dynamite for the more discerning dance floor, planet 4 is also a delightfully detailed affair that will work just as well on headphones late at night.

almost a year after his last outing, london-based vester koza is making a welcome return to the fray with a new ep entitled otr. featuring four atmospheric cuts, for the first time it finds him step away from his own maslo label to join houndstooth. fusing elements of dub, ambient and idm into moody sound worlds with you right at the centre, he has a subtle but seductive touch that has always marked him out. an on-going interest in security, technology and privacy characterizes his work, as does a passion for the vintage and modern gear he uses when producing. all of that is evident here in his most cerebral and conceptual release yet.

british techno producer tom dicicco makes his debut on delsin now after many fine releases on off minor recordings, the corner and his own run out run and inner surface music. he is someone with a textural richly, forceful sound that is dark and abstract yet enriched with very real emotions and here he is on point once more with some of his most sensitive and cerebral cuts yet.

one of the many delsin off shoots welcomes fast rising shlomo to the fray for a new ep featuring three singular originals and one excellent remix from artekfakt. the taapion records boss has previously released on wolfskuil and bright sounds and here serves up some truly sumptuous space techno. the artefakt remix is actually a collage of all three shlomo originals and is a suspenseful, hypnotic and sublime techno roller that carries you tiny another dimension. this is perfectly heady music for cerebral dance floors.

another welcome name to soma from the spanish camp is reeko who delves head first into unfathomable deep techno depths with his debut release, barcelona #3:00 a.m. reeko has been building his name with great care and attention to his sound for many years and all this has culminated in a producer who can easily flip form deep, cerebral techno to full on filth. his debut on soma happily straddles these fields as thunderous sub bass matches some equally future realms of energy.
