greetings fellow lovers of abstract truth. how s living in a dystopian now working out for you? here s hoping a new birdscare release can help take the edge off... it s by zu dobson. and who s zu dobson? i honestly wish i could tell you. she approached me at an a.l.f.o.s. gathering of the faithful and gave me a cd of her work with nothing on it but a po address written on it. after corresponding by letter for a while we agreed that -apple knife- and -wisdom of rumi- would be the first release (of hopefullly many). i only met ms. dobson fleetingly and she has no on-line presence so her identity is vague even to me. so next time you re on the dancefloor that young woman dancing next to you could well be zu dobson. fondant regards... andrew weatherall

years ago and aided by his older brother, the maghreban used to listen to a london pirate called green apple. he very much enjoyed these sounds. whilst not identical to what was played on the station, this tune is influenced by those and earlier times.

as apple pips continues to explore its opening mantra of echo, depth, swing and bass within the duplicitous realms of modern electronica, it welcomes to the fold two long-standing friends of the label and in turn sheds light on their own fresh avenues within house music. you might already know lrusse as id or behling, commonly found kicking up the dust alongside sam baobinga simpson in all manner of styles and tempos, while bleecker has an accomplished back-story in dubstep as wedge & through his own if symptoms persist imprint. in their new venture both producers fuse their dancefloor inclinations with more searching, experimental textures and tones, placing crafty sound design on a level pegging with the more immediate tropes of groove and presence.

the curatorial direction appleblim has always chosen to take with apple pips is rooted in his dj sets, testing tracks to the nth degree and searching for those cuts which engender the desired emotional response in the club. arkists 2011 banger rendezvous held plenty of that weight in its original form, and it wasnt long before scuba wanted to get his hands on the parts for a more houseminded revision in line with his scb output. kept as a secret weapon of blims ever since it was first crafted, scubas dj kicks mix in 2012 finally brought about a public airing of his own edit. with the dust settled on that particular chapter, it is only fitting that this rock solid interpretation receives a full vinyl release over which the eight minutes of poised keys, unflinching bass and swelling atmospherics can prowl undisturbed.

ok, first of all i want to reveal a myth: these infotexts are mostly writtenby the labelowners themselves, not by hard-working editors. so what happens, when the guy behind a label releases his own music? well, either he is a well-organised deadline-machine and he asks somebody capable of doing this stupid job, or he realizes:

this ep marks a newbeginning in my career. since some time now, >the fog burns off< and we get more and more stable in the buisness. last year we were on the road quite a bit and we found many new friends. people from other cities, who believe in the same things, who do similar stuff and who are of the same kidney as we are. so that makes me very happy, which reflects in the music. for the first time i feel like coming home, although we are at the beginning of our journey into the industry yet.
