launched in early 2015 by a collective of crate diggers, afro music-heads and vinyl- buying obsessives, africa seven s aim is to spread the love and knowledge for african music in all its forms. in the wake of this effort, afrosonique vol.1 is the ideal first instalment of a series of compilations bridging african tracks from the 70s and 80s with the most talented artists of today into a remix and re-edit series.

to document these 15 irresistible tracks and the music scene from the 70s, samy crisscrossed the lengths of ghana and togo in search of the producers and artists - or their relatives. in the process he recorded a dozen interviews, scanned 90 pictures and transferred 120 master tapes. afro-beat airway showcases an amazing diversity of local rhythms spiced with afro-american funk, soul and jazz.

soundway records present kenya special: selected east african recordings from the 1970s & 80s - a treasure-trove of rare and unusual recordings from east africa. kenya special is accompanied by detailed liner notes, original artwork and photographs. it follows on from soundways much acclaimed african special series that to date has focused on the highlife and afrobeat output from 1970s nigeria and ghana.

despite the renewed interest in music from kenyas past, finding these tracks and their rights holders hasnt become any easier. only a handful of music archives around the world harbour collections of kenyan music, and just a few private collectors in kenya and abroad have been sharing catalogue info online or privately. one of the problems with east african music of this era is that much of it was originally released only on 45 rpm, seven-inch vinyl singles, many of which were only ever produced in tiny runs of a few hundred. 45s with their thin, paper sleeves do not age as well as lps and are often far more susceptible to the elements
