it s time again for us to welcome another first timer to the second state roster: rocko garoni. having been label manager of sisyphon, in-house imprint of the acclaimed sisyphos club in berlin, garoni is no stranger to curating high quality records, and this time he gets to be curator of his own stunning detection ep. jumping in head first, detection , mischievous number that is equal parts vicious and cunning as it is sensual and inviting. provocative female whispers float over a beat sure to slay any crowd, any time. switching gears, garoni heads into houser territories on phaseful , where glimmers of classic house artifacts are scattered like flickering shimmers over an energetic drum illustration. coming up next is tragedy . it s low slung drums, vast spanning bass and sinister vocal declarations make it an ideal ambassador for the dark mysterious nights. wrapping up the ep is a huge rework of detection by regal, who churns out a burner by cranking up the tempo and tension with crisp drums and an undeniable classic rave leads sure to make the forefathers of techno proud. if it keeps up like this, we expect much more big things in the future from rocko garoni!

blacksilk proudly announces its third release, the second on vinyl, reissuing a selection of tracks from dsordne, experimental electronic band active in turin during the 80’s and early 90’s. thanks to the proactive and collaborative spirit of marco milanesio, band’s founder and author of most of the songs, deserved and proper attention is finally given to three stunning original masterpieces of dusky, heavily post-punk influenced tracks veined with some sort of industrial aftertaste. these songs have been selected from a span of works, mostly autoproduced, that dsordne released in the years of activity on various labels (primarily the related hax records) or fanzines of the thriving italian underground scene of the time, which provided the perfect environment to experiment while representing the dull, grey and nihilist reality of the already post-industrial turin of the mid-80’s.

framed by two spoken word samples and wrapped in house and techno emotions, that know about electro and 90’s electronica too: the new, second album of the leipzig and berlin based producer and live artist martin enke aka lake people moves in a fresh way. this time he shifts towards a focus on the essentials of electronic club music: sounds and groove, rough and playful interweaved with the aesthetic particles of techno. with his “point ep”, released on the berlin based imprint krakatau records in late 2012, his creative life as a producer for melancholic driven club tunes took off. several top notch djs played the tune “point in time”, lake people started to tour world-wide with his mesmerizing live set and produced countless remixes for colleagues from all around the globe. in 2015 he finally released his first album “purposely uncertain field” on the munich based label permanent vacation and delivered eleven tracks at the interface of techno, ambient, experimental and electronic, that bewitch with hymnal chords, yearningly melodies, detailed production, elaborate sound design and an overall introspective, emotive feeling. now, just shortly after he published a fresh ep on the dresden based imprint uncanny valley, lake people drops “phase transition”, a new album consisting of ten haunting tracks full of dance suspense. he recorded all between 2016 and early 2017 on various vintage analog synthesizers, uad and other creative interfaces. to find out if his latest pure slamming tracks work deep, he tried them out during his live shows in order to catch some new ideas directly from the dance floor.

after the success of the broad and powerful second lp alone in time?, Ø phase continues his ongoing connection to token with the submerged metropolitan ep. the title track enters with burchett s own brand of unease, the lead is tense and discordant, moving over a bumpy, rolling kick. brushing off-beat hats rush overhead and play delicately with this unease above the thunder. a vague spoken word sample adds texture and contributes to the cerebral edge. ethereal swells and intense rhythmic play introduce fallen columns, which delves into atonality with keys that add a controlled recklessness to the composition. this absent mind takes on a hypnotic, dubby form with a confidence that belies its complexity. a sublime breakdown introduces the heavier second half of the track, which enters impressively and batters on to the end.

located beyond neptunes orbit is the dwarf planet haumea, the inspiration behind rodhads second release for token. it follows his spomeniks 12inch from last year which the berliner used to debut on the belgian label, the only other imprint hes released with other than his own dystopian records. over the past three years rodhads reputation has sky-rocketed, not only as an accomplished producer with five releases to his name, but as a big room dj whose formidable presence behind the decks demands as much respect as dvs1 and german big guns dettmann and klock.

without trying to making it into a thing in its own right, there is a bit of a coincidence that is appearing for some of our houndstooth artists. following dylan richards chrysalis-like metamorphosis into house of black lanterns, alec storey is the latest artist to shift phase and re-christen his output after signing to our label, progressing from the al tourettes moniker in favour of the more becoming, second storey. whilst his new name might be in homage to the musical path set forth for him by his father, the four-track margosa heights ep sounds very little like anything you have heard from the bristol based producer before.

music for dreams is proud to announce the new album by danish legend dub tractor. one of the founding fathers of electronica in denmark in the early 90s, anders remmer has remained a reluc-tant beacon of copenhagen’s scene ever since, with his musical legacy still a work in progress. as well as being a member of future 3, remmer has released material under a number of different aliases, but his most frequent guise dating back to 1994 has been dub tractor. under this name, he gently crafts complex yet warm and organic electronic music that flirts with ambient, dub and idm. with “hello ambient wash”, the first dub tractor album since 2009, remmer explores further the possibilities of dub tractor after the more pop-oriented & shoegaze-flavoured approach of his last album -sorry-. in addition to new material, the second half of “hello ambient wash” presents a ret-rospective of hand-picked tracks from his first three albums on flex records (the label which music for dreams founder kenneth bager ran with ole mortensen from 1994 to 2007). ... bonus info: nils frahm is a fan.

spezial offer!!! form and function’s second release comes by the hand of a. brehme. over the years the brussels based artist has build a solid reputation as a dj through both frequent appearances as well as curating his own nights at fuse club in brussels. this alongside being a coresident together with peter van hoesen at technoon and playing in clubs such as de school, grelle forelle, suicide circus and more. after years of silent but devoted work in the studio a. brehme is ready to release his debut ep consisting of four powerful cuts that perfectly reflect the sound and mindset he gained his reputation with.

on the a-side things start of with “inityiat” which simply can be seen as a distorted form of “initiation”. starting of hypnotic, the track slowly progresses adding a plethora of subtle percussive elements. an ethnic and mysterious chanting complements the latter throughout the sonic voyageand caters for a promising start. part two of the a-side, “hata isler”, takes off where “inityiat” ended, but amplified in strength. subliminal voices manipulated harmoniously into the pads are mixed with sophisticated alternations of snares and hats. the result: a perfect continuation of the spirit the first track. side b commences with “insan”, a title that serves the track right. straight forward, upgrading the tempo of the previous tracks into a drive that’s impossible to resist. the maelstrom of drones and soundscapes on a layer of thundering sounds, induce a new stage of sonic hypnosis, until it gradually phases out into silence. “tzotzil” on the other hand is a skillfuly crafted tooltrack that’s build around a glooming and reverbing baseline.

this time is ricardo rodrigues aka industrialyzer who lands on the court of damon wild with three tracks perfectly aliened with the label s philosophy, synewave has been at the service of real techno for over 20 years. it all begins with analogue planet a 130 bpm journey which rouses the dance floor whilst stimulating the mind, giving both of them no mercy. the second track, -multiple walls-, carries the flavour of an old school small march with a hammondesque synth which revolves around the groove from beginning to end. the atmosphere becomes dark and acid in the third and final track on this release. orbit x is an emotional roller coaster which develops in different phases, everyone of which takes the listener by surprise. with this release industrialyzer reminds us that, after all, new york, detroit, chicago, berlin, amsterdam or lisbon dont really matter, quality techno is a global affair and synewave consistently confirms this with releases above all schemes, movements and trends. monumental.

hyenah, has, over the last few years helped forge strong ties between the deep house mecca of johannesburg and the cutting edge electronic scene in europe. with a handful of influential and pivotal releases and remixes on a few key labels (objektivity, drumpoet, poker flat, toytonics) hyenah has established himself as a major talent to follow. with his residency and label night rise at berlin institution watergate going from strength to strength, a busy touring schedule taking in ibiza, angola, asia and the u.s, we’re very pleased hyenah still found time to get into the studio so we can present you with the next instalment, the usuthu ep. lead track usuthu featuring the vocals of b’utiza opens the release in fine style with crisp, percussive beats laying the foundation for the precision synths and trademark hyenah afro vibes. those who loved the wish, tale of the dirt and the idea will love this worthy follow up! next up is a second original entitled phases featuring the hypnotic tones of nonku, a much deeper affair but with no less energy and atmosphere. just a more heads down groove for the warm ups and wind downs, nonku’s wonderful vocal elements adding the perfect soulful touch. flipping over we have a wonderful remix from the inimitable mr raoul k. the ivory coast native now residing in berlin has continually wowed us here at freerange with his boabab and mule musiq releases. with his collaborative release alongside manoo just about to drop on innervisions (including a killer dixon edit!), we’re excited to bring you an epic mr raoul k remix of title track usuthu. setting the mood with lush strings and a beautifully paced, beatless intro, raoul k slowly introduces the beats and keyboard parts, layering up the elements and building the energy in the process, resulting in a very special, dynamic version that will connect on a deep level with all who experience it on the dance floor.

hoel’s contribution to this disorientating piece of engineered sound sculpture, is imagined as a schizo-paranoid state of delirium. voices whisper over evolving modular phases of heavy, distorted nothingness. it is a full theatrical construction featuring a haunted choir conducted to sing in the producer’s own unique voice.
the second side features two tracks by label debutant simon marchesini. subtle, brooding almost-there beats reach from underneath, intertwining themselves with a rich sound carpet of complex poly-rythms and twisting vortex-like pads. marchesini seeks to push sound to the very limits of the spectrum.

the remixed tracks from ascetic’s second album ‘everything is becoming’ are a collision between industrial techno, ebm influenced bass lines, doom and dark ambient. four berlin based artists: ancient methods, phase fatale, unhuman & luna violenta offer their take on the two opening tracks ‘utterings’ and ‘exegesis’ from the album. roared vocals, guitar both jagged, creepy and ambient, live drums and samples are all melted down and reformed into at times recognizable and at times wholly alien compositions, ancient methods, phase fatale and unhuman offer different approaches to techno punishment while luna’s interpretation is a cacophonous build that explodes into sonic abstraction. this ep is a perfect example of what berlin does so well, where genres that share aesthetic values feedback, overlap and inspire.

lessismore record label, founded in 2003 by the dutch dj and producer alexis tyrel together with mbc, has been home for mostly his own releases under all his monikers and various artist compilations. “return to planet alpha” continues in this tradition, being a second long-player of alexis tyrel after his debut “newtradition” from 2011.
“return to planet alpha” is a collection of elegant techno tracks which instead of following the now so popular dark and destructive path focuses on daily moods and airy atmosphere, which is closer to open air and lounge than to sweaty pits of contemporary rave. but that doesn’t mean that the twelve tracks are just indistinctive background music. for one thing, tyrel is a master of slick and tight beat foundations of kick drums and bass, often smoothed out with cool synth pads, onto which he layers all kinds of rhythmical chains, subtle melodic ideas and sounds ranging from vintage synths and industrial bits to organic textures and even field recordings.

dark and irregular techno release, with deep bass, distorted rhythm and gloomy pads. lucy s remix is an insane revisitation with a phase war between loudness and rhythm. the original tracks by laertes (gianluca meloni already known as the second half of modern heads with dino sabatini) are focused on the deeper and mental dancefloor. limited to 300 copies on translucent coloured vinyl.

the development of the vbx platform has been in step with ferros coming of age as an artist. one almost cannot be mentioned without reference to the other. it is for this reason that it made perfect sense to invite ferro for the second installment of the vbx label. join us and immerse yourself into ferros musical universe full of heady modulating soundscapes and shimmering percussion.

again shooting for the altitudes reached on manhigh’s first journey, henning baer’s second operation returns to the endeavour with a newly diversified mission. ‘operator’ finds us already at the furthest edge of the atmosphere, pulsating waves of distorted electronics and distant, disembodied voices floating in the void. ‘pittsburgh left’ is the fall back to earth, the unrelenting metallic rhythm slowly gaining momentum, momentary shifts in perspective and detail flashing by as the decent accelerates inexorably. the contemplation before leaving the ground, ‘aiim’ slowly anticipates the ascent and examines the cosmos before lift-off. surely the launch phase ‘canadian suit’ is both reflective and onrushing, trapped between tense, contrasting moments before being flung into the unknown. displaying both henning baer’s typically acute feeling for talent and kangding ray’s restless ear, the remix of ‘aiim’ is a complete reinterpretation, setting grinding triplet rhythms in an industrial soundscape that suggests travels more fearful than those that surround it.

the enigma that is black swan has emerged from the shadows to deliver its second work. awash with chilling ambience, found sounds and haunting samples, the quiet divide reins in the phantasmagoria, examining the blurred in-between, the darkness that lies at the divide. creeping ever so slowly out of the confined spaces of its previous work, in 8 movements, black swan moves further into the crevice, mining territory unbefitting to most composers. upon surfacing from the muck and grime, the resulting work is disquieting and poignant, exposing the listener to the inner workings of the desolate in hope that they will never have to plunge themselves into it.

roger gerressen about his project >lunar phases< : -when thinking about the lights of the night the first thing that came to my mind was the moon. you look at it daily and we are all affected by it so much. since the project contains eight tracks and the moon travels through eight phases every month it seemed like an obvious choice to choose this subject for the lp. the first part of the lp is the >new moon<, when the people (and the music) are mellow and relaxed. the second part of the lp is darker, faster and more chaotic, which is more likely to be the effect a >full moon< has on people.-

for every producer the first album is a big thing and filled with lots of emotions and love. finally after two years of work, after their last single sugar - cocina india with a straight pumpin sweet n candy remix, lepetris album >acoustic signs< comes out on wanted beatz with full of natural sounds. inspired by his impressions, lepetri speaks in his tracks from minimal to techno about his experiences and places, such as the album name implies, an acoustic sign in the musical underground culture without losing the sense of club music. so it was important for him to bring his experience and adventures in form musical expression. from rocking beats up to melodious strings, each turntable can be served in the club. a club album which fits to each phase of a party. therefore, the first vinyl goes more towards house and the second vinyl contains more techno elements. check it out and enjoy!

following up his groovin ep, french house producer kool vibes releases his second ep, time & chances, for his own kv label. stepped rhythms, phased hats and soul-grunting vocals in *get u down* make for a lush and playful take on four-four french-tipped house, while *high up* features short sustained rhode stabs and 90s vocal shouts. *time & chances* is a little rougher in its musicality and drum processing, adding some jazz elements, whereas traditional house combos come to the fore in *something i m feelin*, as chords and crashing hats lock in and out of each other with electric flow.
