the mission to balance the playing field of the electronic music scene advances with the fourth release on sound warrior recordings, a label run by jenifa mayanja of bu� mako recordings and dakini9 of plan b recordings. the mission of sound warrior recordings is to promote and release music exclusively by female electronic music producers. �gwarrior tones�h features berlin�fs singer/songwriter/producer daniela la luz, who has released extensively on rawax and housewax, french label owner and ultradeep producer whim�ee, who�fs been seen on trojan horse records, night drive music and abstract/culture, and sound warrior co�bosses jenifa mayanja and dakini9. this ep features four deep cuts for the dance floor, all created by female producers who have been working in the industry for over 40 years collectively! yet they remain largely under the radar. with sound warrior recordings, we hope to correct the extreme imbalance of men and women performers in the house and techno underground.

thatmanmonkz is certainly enjoying a fine run of form ! heavy duty releases for delusions of grandeur & kolour ltd, alongside a steadily building and essential catalogue on his own shadleaf music label for their fifth outing the label has opted for a split single, with french house royalty ludovic llorca aka art of tones handling a side duties �so worried� marries a spoken word vocal with an irrsesistible clipped organ led and bumpin� house workout that sounds a lot like fellow frenchman st germain did way back when. monkz handles the flip with the kind of rough and ready sample-house jam the label has championed �got to get to� strings together a handful of live instrumentation & melodies in classic collage style, while the dub strips down and houses up the ingredients for a clonked out finale.

in 2011 when mad mats and tooli went to sonar festival in barcelona they met ludovic llorca aka art of tones outside a club. little did they know back then that two years later on they would release a 12 inch together. the same thing ep opens with the title track and kicks pretty damn sweet with its strong vocal, the guitar, bass and rhodes jamming on top of a tight groove, there is also a dub version included on the b-side. last but not least, the great sgatmi is a jazzy and bumpy house take with lots of samples perfectly balanced. all in all, classic art of tones material and the work of a producer firing on all cylinders.

the red hook grain terminal is a post-industrial unit overlooking brooklyn that serves as a pillar of the recent work of sound-artist, jordan edge. inorganic is a collection of organic sounds that have been degraded by inorganic spaces and working methods. the listener is situated in a three-dimensional world where the deterioration of sound is equal to the creation of the content itself. a world of dampened acoustics, half destroyed spaces, dead room tones and manipulated environmental surroundings.

2 years ago, we celebrated our 10 years with 5 anniversary eps entitled 10 by ten, where we asked 10 of our favorite artists to write an exclusive track for the occasion. two of the stand out tracks were martin iveson - aka atjazz - leave me here as well as art of tones, koniokola, which we thought deserved a second life. freerange and delusions of grandeur boss, jimpster, blesses us with his deep yet driving rendition of leave me here, while fred everything chooses to update koniokola with a more dance floor approach and a strip down dub. we also included the original of leave me here which was never available on vinyl.

frankfurt s reboot brings his flavour to the release with intricate percussion and deep underlying pads. growing up in sven vath s omen club, the talented musician now spearheads the new sound of frankfurt and has released on a wealth of labels like circus, moon harbour, cadenza and get physical.

a negative hallucination is an idea that was first put forward by sigmund freud in 1890. he used the term to describe how a hypnotised person could be led to be unable to see a person or thing that was right in front of them once out of the hypnotised state, creating a gap in their reality. sadly, this gap in reality seems endemic in the minds of many in the world, whether from lack of access to facts or from wilful ignorance. the result is the same regardless: a world where many oppressed peoples reality is edited out of the conversation. noleian reusse (half of africans with mainframes) and thomas cox (one third of pittsburgh track authority) got together in the studio in pittsburgh during a week of extreme social unrest in the usa in late 2015, resulting in these recordings. the tracks are crafted with a stripped back electronic funk and a stark, relentless feel that reflects the energy in the air at the time. as long time fans of politically and socially charged music like public enemy, underground resistance, nwa, dopplereffekt, and gil scott-heron, noleian and thomas have taken these influences and mixed them with their own styles to come up with a modern dancefloor version of those ideals. lead track solidarity fills the whole a side with its optimism. soulful melodies and strings conquer the driving rhythms, bringing a sense that through sticking together, a better future is possible. the b side s perspective is darker. police state is a crazy raved out banger that combines gritty acid and harsh tones that channel the day-to-day existence for far too many urban people. the third and final cut, surveillance, is a paranoid, spacey techno track that would be ideal as a soundtrack for closed-circuit television video reels. this snapshot of urban life is tied together through artwork by andrew burger, whose mix of throwback style and current ideas nails the dystopian existence that is now reality as predicted so long ago by orwell, huxley, lucas, and many more.

you can always trust ludovic llorca. once a year he locks himself in his studio and works the magic which results in a local talk release. his previous releases on local talk, the same thing (classic proto housemeets-baggy us garage vibe) the rainbow song (it sounds like an underground summer anthem in waiting) are lt classics and now, ludo returns with a third release, i just can t ep. while some producers struggle with new ideas, trying to re-invent the genre, ludo sticks to what he knows best. strings and chords combined with a thick and squelchy bass is the foundation of the title track while on the flip, dirty stories, is as hypnotic as it is jackin, in fact, both tracks are so irresistible you d start wondering if ludo stole them from a snake charmer.

this one has been in the making for a loooong time and we do believe you will agree it was worth the wait. tj kong has been releasing some serious vocal house masterpieces over the past year on compost and other labels of fame, so it was only a matter of time before they ended up on wph. when it comes to vocals few do it better than gustaph, the belgian lead vocalist of hercules & love affair and a close friend of the wph family. inside story: gustaph provided non-credited (but paid) backing vocals for fcl�s �it�s you� stormer. with tj kong gustaph takes up the role of both lyrics writer and vocalist and does so to devastating effect in absolute perfect unison with the track provided by tj kong & modular k. it�s classic but very very fresh. on the flipside tj kong & modular k team up with french wonderboy art of tones aka llorca for a trip into house music stabs & strings bliss. if the dream is always the same, we do hope this is the one you are re-dreaming. wph ten-3, niceness to the max!

wph 019 brings us art of tones with lauer remixes. art of tones is of course the much-praised aka of llorca, has long since moved on from his f-communications days and is without a doubt one of the finest and most accomplished house music producers of our time. but we digress, because isnt this all about the music?

ludovic llorca aka art of tones is a composer who spent his youth in the north of france, learning music-making with computers (commodore 64 and amiga). after releasing a couple of techno/house 12 inches on small labels, he signed an artist contract (using his family name as a moniker) with french label f-communications on 1997, releasing three eps, followed by a lp (newcomer) on 2001. the albums huge success (more than 170.000 copies sold) leads him to stages around the world, touring for more than 3 years with musicians and singers, performing live in famous festivals (montreux, nice, vienne, den haag, les vieilles charrues) and in prestigious venues.

killer release on new yorks sequencias label. powerful and hypnotic chicago acid inspired cut on the a and a cool slow building chord driven track layered over raw drum rhythms on the b-side. recommended!! label promo text: sequencias does not stop, does not conform, takes no prisoners. our third release brings you a pair of artists from two different points along interstate 94, who have a reputation for the very same. so lets get to it. the main body laid down by villan x is tight metallic percussion underpinned by solid kicks and a stream of robotic filtered bass, containing unexpected shifts within the frequency register. foreboding tones and feelings drift towards us across which the disembodied voice of kold is able to find a platform from which to shudder into our consciousness and pose questions from across the galaxies about the nature of our very being. dcantu carries on the feelings of space, with protracted white noise shots and stabby modulated organ chords, but doesnt leave it long before setting the pace with solid drums and shifting keyboard funk aimed squarely your body and the dance floor as octave changes force you up and then down again to a backdrop thick with texture. this provides for the body and the mind. act fast though, sequencias does not like to rest.

great remixes from the french house don llorca. on a-side, llorca takes one of the best mid-tempo song from alice russel s latest album pot of gold , and turns it to an uplifting funk monster. with an infectious, fat bassline and classy rhodes, there s no doubt that got the hunger will stir huge damages on dancefloors. b-side displays another ludovic llorca s side, under his art of tones moniker, using 1987 s sterling void it s gonna be all right acapella, and relifting this old-school chicago anthem into a 2009 modern and fresh deep-house sounding gem.
