rotten city records welcomes a new citizen, but not a newcomer tothe scene. he is luca rocca atagliati, best known as dj rocca, a veteran dj and producer from italy, half ajello, half supersonic lovers, half from crimea, a third of electric tree and regular contributor with legendary dj’s like daniele baldelli or dimitri from paris. after his multiple releases on labels like is it balearic?, nang or futureboogie, luca joins to our beloved rotten city with two original tracks showing his darker, narcotic and narrative side, concocting a bizarre and labyrinthine disco, which develops a spiral shaped staircase from the inside.

we re really excited to be able to put one of our favourite ever wotnot releases to wax. it s a release that makes us particularly proud as we convinced k15 to let one of his house tracks out of the archive for the first time ever, as well as securing one of the few tracks to have been heard from up-and-coming wunderkind glenn kelly (jeeks), before he retired early from the circuit. four years after it dropped digitally, featured artists k15 and imyrmind have become household names, releasing music with eglo, wild oats, tartelet and money $ex records among others. this re-release also includes a new track from sexruleseverything who also featured on the original release. the tracks on this ep still stand strong, and the vinyl drops alongside the release of dancefloor sweets vol. 2, with more to come in 2017.

* after almost 20 years of making tracks with blaringly loud kicks, you tend to start producing with the other elements first to give yourself a break from the constant pounding of monitors at point blank range. following an analog filter shopping spree, i began working on a group of tracks where the low end was satisfied by the filtering, and realized these songs worked just fine without a bass drum. therefore this record is called “rareforms” since most of my other work consists of a kick drum and lots of loud effects. this record is dedicated to the brilliant synthesist and interpreter isao tomita, whose records always provide inspiration in the lab. also to master storyteller rod serling and his frequent collaborator bernard hermann, whose score for the hitchcock film vertigo i adapted through some midi processes and wavetable synthesis, then sent it through a 4-foot spring reverb.* - phil moffa

over the last decade, bantam lions (aka liverpool producer mike carney) has devoted much of his spare time to “playful experimentation,” channeling 30 years of musical inspirations and adventures to create electronic music that sits somewhere between hazy nostalgia and far-sighted futurism. now, he’s gathered together some of his favourite moments to create short stories, a debut album – and scenery’s first long-form release – simply overflowing with page-turning musical narratives.
these are short stories to savour, to get lost in, and to revisit time and time again. they’re bantam lions’ stories, but he’s happily shared them for others to enjoy.

otherworldly caribbean electronic dance floor cuts! arousing prog-zouk and abstract futurism from the french west indies by synthesist claude rodap, released on vinyl for the first time. huge tip! in the early eighties, a time where french caribbean musicians were searching for their own sound, claude rodap mixed traditional gwo-ka, bel air, biguine with synthetic sounds, resulting in magical, adventurous outcome. recorded in the nineties and in 2000, the dreamy, sensuous three tracks on beletronic are the deliberate result of more than a decade of his experimentation.

the maghreban returns with essential new house odyssey ‘brooklyn’, named after his dead cat. his second outing on black acre, ‘brooklyn’ is a breathtaking night flight, viewed through a prism both phantasmagorical and seedily terrestrial. trance inducing caribbean percussion, possessed chants, motown bass, sci-fi synths, wayward filter sweeps, analogue free jazz - all get their moment to shine in the weird and wonderful 8-minute microcosm that is ‘brooklyn’. flip-side ‘the carpenters’ strikes a more domesticated tone, with motorik industrial dub eventually giving way to haunted sci-fi bachelor pad lounge.

having been rivals on the football pitch as teenagers, a chance encounter many years later - djing at an international windsurfing festival - cumulated in a back to back set that kicked off the italia90 collaboration. putting the footballing differences aside, italia90 grew out of a shared love of quality house music that was influenced greatly by glasgow s close relationship with chicago and institutions such as the sub club that brought these house heroes close to home.

following the successful reception of klodio s debut ep, the tokyo-based producer spent the year playing shows in japan with various upcoming artists like fulbert and label co-founder alixkun, and taking part in disruptive events such as pow wow school of music. when klodio decided it was time to start recording his second ep, he took a slightly different direction, going from techno-influenced detroit house to house-influenced detroit techno. -shinagawa sunrise- is a fast-paced retro-futuristic jazz jam which climaxes on a fantastic sax solo by the young and talented ilia skibinsky. daiba goes a step further in this techno journey, flowing from glowing, light, syncopated chords to a dark and aggressive atmosphere, and back again to the relaxing chords. more polished, singular, deep, and yet aggressive than -toktroit-, -rainbow bridge ep- brings another stone in the asia-infused universe that the french producer is bringing to the world of electronic music.

building a formidable reputation as an artist with a diverse set of approaches in the field of electronic music, ukranian producer cape cod delivers his debut album on kiev house in a fine display of musicianship. from the opening track -among the stars- (which features constantine on vocal) it s clear that this will be more than a straight up collection of dancefloor tracks. there are indeed some upbeat house tracks to be enjoyed, not least on the razor sharp garage bumper -we don t have to-, but there s also equal space given over to more introspective jams such as -put u down-.

the erefora land is the first solo record by johan kaseta, lehult founding member. its a nostalgic, hazy affair where the tracks work both on a dancefloor and as the score to an imaginary super nin-tendo rpg. squelching vocal samples (hi!) and bubbling synths are reminiscent of the oldschool, synth-laden nineties game soundtracks young kaseta still cant get enough of. the erefora land is like coming across the soundtrack to earthbound after having forgotten to have ever played it - suddenly a rush of sights, sounds and smells from the past come back to you and gently pull you in.

kicking off the bump sampler is head honcho luke solomon, with his remix of anytime insanity by lil mark. it features vocals by us based vocalist allegra bandy. next up is the brett johnson remix of hot by copenhagen based producer kim kemi. on the b side lil mark s original production runaway, gets the remix treatment by the infamous matt tolfrey for his ec1 mix series. rounding off the sampler is bandwagoneer, a brand new production by lil mark.

in accord with wotnot s knack for nurturing talent, our first dancefloor sweets featured an early appearance from tartelet & money $ex artist imyrmind, and the first ever k15 house track! volume 2 continues in this vein with a new pick n mix bag of feel-good crowd-pleasers from evm128, body-san, danvers and galactic ganesh, while volume 1 also receives a long overdue (limited) press to vinyl, with a new added track from sexruleseverything.

nascent london label ex-local announces its arrival with a new 5-track ep from south london talent kxngs. with an extensive back catalogue that includes a release on the la collective soulection s imprint (as kings in 2012) - as well as self-released album earlys & eps that can all be found on his bandcamp page the 25-year-old brixton resident has been winning admirers on his own terms whilst studying sound arts at the university of the arts london which offered him an escape from a year living homeless on the citys streets.

limited 250 copies! sheffields hopeworks has become an essential melting pot for the cultural and musical future of a city whose electronic heritage has surpassed its industrial one. as creative director & resident dj lo shea, returns to the vinyl arm of this warehouse institution with a blistering new ep expertly programmed modern sonics possessed by the spirit of 90s rave & the uks characteristic bass influence abound here. from the syncopated and undulating a way through to the straight up ravery of mark x on the a side, to the hypnotic tribalism of primitive operations were looking at a crisply crafted modern techno suite of the highest calibre. bristols hodge handles a weighty remix of b1, amping the atmospherics and rounding off an ep of precision club tools par excellence.

even if russian producer gradient logic is found here turning out the business on serbian label disco fruit, the sound on the far away ep comes on like a snappy fusion of garage-ready new york proto house and laid back west coast boogie of the highest order. it s the third vinyl release for tonbe s label, and once more marks the serious clout behind the eastern european operation and its closest artists. just try grooving to the slick bass pops on feel me without being transported to an early 80s dancefloor. there s a more organic funk to lock into on i want you slide, but as ever it s hard to tell where the sampling ends and the musicianship begins on this utterly natural sounding ep.

billing themselves as crew of beat junkies raised in the legendary sugar shack studio,difusion make their first appearance on their own label in style with some righteous edits that make some decisive cuts where it counts for pure dancefloor dynamite. losing me is more of a rolling breakbeat inflected house workout with a deadly delay treatment on the vocals that drops in at just the right time to surely set a club off at any hour. get up is a more sultry cut but it still hits heavy, and be truthful and change it both offer up differing soulful angles to make this a highly versatile record for all kinds of situations.

out of sight of the discogs radar. originally printed in 1979, currently in the oblivion, again available soon through galaxy. originally released in 1979, francesco cabiati s mirage is a classic slice of holy grail electronic prog that has been searched for and fawned over for years by avid collectors. now galaxy have scored the record as their opening gambit, which should satisfy more than a few second hand vigilantes out there. it s a bombastic offering rich in moog lines and dramatic themes, much like all the great instrumental synth offerings of the era. from the faithful treatment of the cover and labels to the quality of the remastering, its everything a classic reissue of a hidden gem should be.

with the shortly arriving compilation continue, the still young label ourselves is already entering the second round. after their kick-off had already unmistakeably proven likewise, also their following release prides itself with multifarious house music. the entry into this musical journey is given by a collaboration between the two leipzig producers ranko and lootbeg. in their work, classical drums are meeting warm house chords, accompanied by a driving acid line and riddled with catchy soul vocals, which, parcelled into modern breaks, will most certainly set more than one hip swinging. a clear case of girl voucher. the second track of the release is contributed by berlin artist perel. in usual fashion, clearly harder drums meet a driving and floating groove here, which has without a doubt been produced for dancefloor usage. adding the massive bassline and the unmistakeably demanding vocal, we end up having a massive tune with raw warehouse character. i want my money back! the opening of the flipside comes from our good friend braunbeck. holy, a hypnotically-tinted tune dominated by percussion convinces with his irresistible urge forward and his ever catchy groove, which truly never seems to lose its dynamism. a true monster. the perfect finishing touch is added by filburt personally. the chief of motherlabel o*rs surprises with a track full of cosy atmosphere and spacy vocals. carried by a multitude of synthie sounds, this tune sure is the perfect choice for every set and afterhour. always towards the rising sun!

nachtbraker is back! its been a huge year for the amsterdam deep house juggernaut who returns to dirt crew with his all new and colorfully titled really ties the room together ep. constantly on the move, hes found time between touring throughout europe, asia and south america to continue to push his a-typical house sound forward with this years heist release and his quirky jam busy bee that was featured on our deep love 100 compilation. this three tracker is jam packed with bouncing club tunes and a whole lot of flange. things kick off with the title track really ties the room together. it twists and turns over an unconventional but irresistible groove, shimmying shakers, brass stabs and a serpentine riff work together creating a super tight dance floor cut. rew begins somewhere in deeper territory, suspense building beneath the clouds, a rumbling bass rolls in from over the horizon before a glorious funk guitar blows the whole thing wide open, letting the suns rays burst through and that familiar nachtbraker good time energy shine in. the rerub of rew is something altogether new from our deep house protagonist, a break beat and casual groove guide gently towards an ever intensifying acid trip. dont be fooled by the lovely deep chords, things get nasty in the end. its best to expect the unexpected from our adventurous resident producer, and this ep is no exception.

‘hands of shadow’ opens the release and sets the tone of the label from the very beginning with an understated melodic feel fused with raw percussion and a subtly evolving yet intricate structure. ‘inner space’ follows and wanders into dub territories with spiralling echoes, low-slung drums and ethereal atmospherics. title cut ‘pieces of you’ opens the flip side and lays focus on an infectious unfaltering groove via vacillating pad swells, sporadic jazz licks and a weighty 4/4 drive before closing cut ‘the spectrometer dance’ rounds it all off with some ambient vibes.

having already issued a few cassettes via his own harsh riddims label as well as cgi’s sister label dka records, ryan parks brings his fit of body project to cgi for his debut 12inch, release. here we are treated with two previously unreleased original cuts as well as galcher lustwerk and twins reworks of a pair of older tunes. fit of body’s sound is unique among the current crop of bedroom dance producers in that it can ignite a dancefloor while still feeling deeply personal. this mood is enhanced by the way parks colours his tracks with his own voice. his approach to adding live instrumentation to the arrangements lends a handmade delicacy otherwise lacking in so much hyper-quantized machine music. these are tracks that will feel at home in the dj booth, your living room and your bedroom.
