rotten city records welcomes a new citizen, but not a newcomer tothe scene. he is luca rocca atagliati, best known as dj rocca, a veteran dj and producer from italy, half ajello, half supersonic lovers, half from crimea, a third of electric tree and regular contributor with legendary dj’s like daniele baldelli or dimitri from paris. after his multiple releases on labels like is it balearic?, nang or futureboogie, luca joins to our beloved rotten city with two original tracks showing his darker, narcotic and narrative side, concocting a bizarre and labyrinthine disco, which develops a spiral shaped staircase from the inside.

we re really excited to be able to put one of our favourite ever wotnot releases to wax. it s a release that makes us particularly proud as we convinced k15 to let one of his house tracks out of the archive for the first time ever, as well as securing one of the few tracks to have been heard from up-and-coming wunderkind glenn kelly (jeeks), before he retired early from the circuit. four years after it dropped digitally, featured artists k15 and imyrmind have become household names, releasing music with eglo, wild oats, tartelet and money $ex records among others. this re-release also includes a new track from sexruleseverything who also featured on the original release. the tracks on this ep still stand strong, and the vinyl drops alongside the release of dancefloor sweets vol. 2, with more to come in 2017.

* after almost 20 years of making tracks with blaringly loud kicks, you tend to start producing with the other elements first to give yourself a break from the constant pounding of monitors at point blank range. following an analog filter shopping spree, i began working on a group of tracks where the low end was satisfied by the filtering, and realized these songs worked just fine without a bass drum. therefore this record is called “rareforms” since most of my other work consists of a kick drum and lots of loud effects. this record is dedicated to the brilliant synthesist and interpreter isao tomita, whose records always provide inspiration in the lab. also to master storyteller rod serling and his frequent collaborator bernard hermann, whose score for the hitchcock film vertigo i adapted through some midi processes and wavetable synthesis, then sent it through a 4-foot spring reverb.* - phil moffa

over the last decade, bantam lions (aka liverpool producer mike carney) has devoted much of his spare time to “playful experimentation,” channeling 30 years of musical inspirations and adventures to create electronic music that sits somewhere between hazy nostalgia and far-sighted futurism. now, he’s gathered together some of his favourite moments to create short stories, a debut album – and scenery’s first long-form release – simply overflowing with page-turning musical narratives.
these are short stories to savour, to get lost in, and to revisit time and time again. they’re bantam lions’ stories, but he’s happily shared them for others to enjoy.

otherworldly caribbean electronic dance floor cuts! arousing prog-zouk and abstract futurism from the french west indies by synthesist claude rodap, released on vinyl for the first time. huge tip! in the early eighties, a time where french caribbean musicians were searching for their own sound, claude rodap mixed traditional gwo-ka, bel air, biguine with synthetic sounds, resulting in magical, adventurous outcome. recorded in the nineties and in 2000, the dreamy, sensuous three tracks on beletronic are the deliberate result of more than a decade of his experimentation.

the maghreban returns with essential new house odyssey ‘brooklyn’, named after his dead cat. his second outing on black acre, ‘brooklyn’ is a breathtaking night flight, viewed through a prism both phantasmagorical and seedily terrestrial. trance inducing caribbean percussion, possessed chants, motown bass, sci-fi synths, wayward filter sweeps, analogue free jazz - all get their moment to shine in the weird and wonderful 8-minute microcosm that is ‘brooklyn’. flip-side ‘the carpenters’ strikes a more domesticated tone, with motorik industrial dub eventually giving way to haunted sci-fi bachelor pad lounge.

having been rivals on the football pitch as teenagers, a chance encounter many years later - djing at an international windsurfing festival - cumulated in a back to back set that kicked off the italia90 collaboration. putting the footballing differences aside, italia90 grew out of a shared love of quality house music that was influenced greatly by glasgow s close relationship with chicago and institutions such as the sub club that brought these house heroes close to home.

following the successful reception of klodio s debut ep, the tokyo-based producer spent the year playing shows in japan with various upcoming artists like fulbert and label co-founder alixkun, and taking part in disruptive events such as pow wow school of music. when klodio decided it was time to start recording his second ep, he took a slightly different direction, going from techno-influenced detroit house to house-influenced detroit techno. -shinagawa sunrise- is a fast-paced retro-futuristic jazz jam which climaxes on a fantastic sax solo by the young and talented ilia skibinsky. daiba goes a step further in this techno journey, flowing from glowing, light, syncopated chords to a dark and aggressive atmosphere, and back again to the relaxing chords. more polished, singular, deep, and yet aggressive than -toktroit-, -rainbow bridge ep- brings another stone in the asia-infused universe that the french producer is bringing to the world of electronic music.
