after a hiatus of more than ten years, one of house musics most essential and influential labels is back in the game. that label is umm, originally from naples in italy, which is now re-launching with a fine ep from milan based producer and dj, ten words.

dj loser kicks off his vinyl debut with your eyes were telling me that you really cared, a soothing and sun-bleached late night downbeat driver, which gives way to a2s untitled menacing and jacking tone that is sure to bang the dingiest of darkrooms. b1s i ve got dis (but i can t do it) is a bona fide slammer made to liquify whatever is left of one s mind way past the midnight hour, while seixlack s rendition of the latter brings more paranoid and percussive-led assaults to the table.

irrgang is the highly anticipated debut album of ossian ohlsson s vit fana project. representing a new generation of experimental musicians from scandinavia pushing the limits of contemporary industrial music, irrgang is the culmination of a process perfected over several years. while the comfortless drones, ear-piercing noise bursts and razor-sharp synth work may be the album s backbone, the signature trademark of earlier vit fana recordings is present in ohlsson s haunting vocals and the subtle hints of brutal beauty. a highly personal musical statement, irrgang stands with one foot firmly rooted in the tradition of early industrial noise music, while effectively creating a grotesque universe of its own.

this time we present you the golden goldffinch boys on the new fuse label on the more techno orientated side of things. four dark and haunting tracks which stand out of the flood of functional techno nowadays.

up first is get enough, seven minutes of seductive techno that has an almost machine-gun like disco synth firing across the groove. it is a rumbling peak time track with real force and energy that will bring any floor to life. the title track, toleranz, is a gritty and stripped back basement cut with dry hits and burrowing acid bass that takes you deep into the night. cobra then proves this pair have real breadth in the studio and is a barrel chested house cut with more big hits, rib rattling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that really get you on your toes. remixing are the tech duo of pleasurekraft, whose releases on octopus and mood records have won them plenty of dj and dancing fans. they layer in some dark melodies to sq80 and build it steadily before allowing the militant drums and crisp snares to explode and drive you and the whole club forwards.

aesthete obfuscation (computer club) computer club presents aesthete (aka thom barnett) with his debut release obfuscation. a 4 track ep of bass-heavy minimalism. micro-precise percussion bursting through minimal electronics with chattering industrial machines, the 4 tracks take an experimental approach directly to the dance floor. we first encountered the unique aesthete sound in a dark former ballroom in sheffield in early 2016 and were mesmerised by his sonic assault. as the name suggests, barnett s skill isn t confined to audio. a talented designer, he runs mamnick, an internationally renowned brand sold online and via outlets including a flagship store in tokyo. mamnick clothes and items blend sheffield craftsmanship with a love of cycling and a sharp aesthetic eye. everything barnett turns his attention to is expertly crafted and this debut ep on computer club is no exception.

ondon-based duo jamka return with inter alia, the latest evidence of their patient, intimate relationship with their analogue machines. from the start there’s a sense of event – we encounter clear, interlaced electronic textures, powerful analogue drones and well-placed beats. the tracks aren’t soundscapes so much as fertile electronic soundfields. patemp continuously expands in an incredibly subtle but powerful way and shows that jamka’s technical skills don’t preclude an emotional touch. on the tight and minimal anazmo, the coiled energy bears traces of minimal techno and radical electronica, but it’s beyond either of these. while the album passes quickly, it’s full of detail and the thoughtfulness and craft that have gone into it are evident. dwa offers the chance to appreciate the flow and the sheen of its analogue textures – the modernist romance of the power line hum and its promise of technological-cultural progress. jamka are known for their dynamic live performances and this energy is almost tangible on derazor. the stately igora is a strong, bold close to the album, offering surprises right till the end. the sharp, metallic details ripple through the mix and an anthemic sequence shines through. inter alia makes clear that jamka are worthy inheritors of slovakia’s proud late modernist traditions of radical architecture and electronic music. this is a work of craft that demands respect and repeated listening.
