repress - das album coco ist nun endlich als doppel-vinyl erhältlich und setzt da fort, wo parov stelar’s bisherige erfolgsalben aufgehört haben. auf der anderen seite entwickelt er seinen sound aber konsequent weiter und fügt seinen bewährten jazzigen klängen spannende, neue stilelemente hinzu. die zwei vinyle des doppelalbums sind als unterteilung zwischen den eher tanzbareren und den zum hören gedachten tracks zu sehen. diese grenze verschwindet bei parov stelars aktuellen kompositionen allerdings zusehends und das album bildet so weniger ein zweigeteiltes werk als vielmehr einen homogenen fluss an nummern, die stetig an tanzfaktor gewinnen. der musiker selbst sieht das ganze als »buch für den musikalischen leser«, in dem es ganz klar eine klassische aufteilung in einleitung, mittelteil und schluss gibt. durch die schnelllebigkeit unserer zeit und das »reinhören« in alben geht die auseinandersetzung mit weniger plakativen songs verloren. »coco« ist von parov stelar hier als gegenposition gedacht.

he is back. twenty years after boulevard, fifteen years after the multi-platinum album tourist (over 3 million copies sold worldwide) and a world tour spanning several continents, ludovic navarre, alias st germain, finally found his way back into the studio. an uncontested and respected figure in the world of electronic music for the past two decades, a pioneer of the * french touch* and a creator of intelligent and sensual deep house, st germain has always stood out. his consummate art thrives on a subtle mixture of machines and instruments, of authentic roots and modern influences.

ahmed malek was one of the most important musicians of the algerian scene of the 1970s. his sountrack works that were composed for various algerian movies of the time fuse arabic influences with jazz, psych and funk influences. dark cineastic soundscapes meet african jazz at times reminicent of mulatu. original copies of his vinyl releases have been sold for enormous amounts. for this release we combined the strongest tracks from his releases with a selection of unreleased material straight from the families archive. the vinyl edition comes with a 8 page 12” size booklet, the cd version with a 16 page booklet with lot of unseen photos, an interview with the artist from 1978 and an introduction to algerian cinema.

recorded in new york’s avatar studios in may 2017 and produced by manfred eicher, blue maqams brings tunisian oud master anouar brahem together with three brilliant improvisers. for anouar brahem and dave holland the album marks a reunion: they first collaborated 20 years ago on the very widely-acclaimed thimar album. brahem meets jack dejohnette for the first time here, but holland and dejohnette have been frequent musical partners over the last half-century beginning with ground-breaking work with miles davis – their collaborations are legendary. british pianist django bates also rises superbly to the challenge of brahem’s compositions. and anouar in turn is inspired to some of his most outgoing playing. blue maqams is a highlight of ecm’s autumn season.
