kiki gyan’s star didn’t burn long, but it burned bright. drafted into the afro funk super group, osibisa, at 15, he was millionaire by 18 and regarded as one of the best keyboardists in the world by 21. ‘life was good, man,’ he told journalist kweku sakyi-addo. ‘too good!’. in 1983 he dived head first into the new york party scene. he took a lot of drugs, spent a lot of time in clubs and got together a team of crack local musicians to record feelin’ alright, his third and final solo album. all the kiki gyan trademark elements are present and correct. the album is unique a blend of highlife music with electronic funk and disco. ‘rosemary’ follows the formula most closely and was a hit across nigeria and ghana. but on ‘give it to me’, ‘love to love you’ and the title track, you’ll hear a slicker, boogie-influenced sound that has made feelin’ alright one of his most sought-after albums. kiki gyan would never hit such heights again. his addictions eventually took hold and he died aged 47, destitute and alone. feelin’ alright remains one of the brightest stars in his extraordinary constellation.

bpc-urgestein kiki hat für seine vinyl > spending time together< keinem geringeren als hercules and love affair-sänger shaun j. wright das mikrofon in die hand gegeben. die beiden scheinen wie füreinander geschaffen - shauns soulig-relaxte vocals legen sich wie ein dunkles seidentuch um kikis schlanke, druckvoll produzierte beats. dunkelheit ist dann auch das stichwort für die beiden, mit through darkness bright dub und dark dub benannten titel der 12 inch vinyl.

die zeit scheint reif für bemerkenswerte kollaborationen: ganz im sinne der these, dass das ergebnis mehr ist als die summe ihrer teile, produzieren die beiden bpc-urgesteine kiki und chaim ihre 12inch love kills! unter gemeinsamer flagge. wirklich fremd waren sich die beiden jedoch nie: ihre gegenseitigen remixe – kikis großartige version von chaims album-titeltrack alive von 2011 und chaims 2009er knaller von kikis good voodoo machen lust auf mehr und legen die messlatte erneut ein stück höher!

after the killer original mix of this future classic we bring you two of our favourite producers to the table to tackle the vocals from kiki. alexkid starts with a early chicago frankie knuckles groove evolving the song into a peakhour frenzy of electronic house at it s best. mr pigna aka marco passarani twists a bar or two from french kiss and turns the track into a jacking killer-groove alÁ powerplant 1987 with the vocals teared into parts and turned into a mutilated chant. for the not so vocal orientated around he kindly made a slamming dub as well. salutÉ

the song starts with moroder alike bassline before the sweet but downright mean vocals from kiki kicks in, followed by more dark italo flavoured synthlines and pads before finally reaching a climax of humoungous propotions after the break. kiki delivers the vocal in a dark manner where you actually ask yourself is this the kiki we know.. scary !allready on heavy rotation by ewan pearson, tiefschwarz, … will be big!
