mantra makes an entry to finnish proform series with his raw and uncompromised four track acid ep called “the abyss”. after releases on bunker records, polybius trax, solar one music and abstract acid under the mantra alias craig stainton delivers four tracks of jackin pure acid techno madness in the veins of true underground. starting with “next culture” is a good introduction to pumping beats and a moaning 303 while “beat methods” takes a rougher and tougher angle to acid. just imagine yourself in a warehouse party in the morning jammin to some acid. on the b-side “the abyss” leads us to the deep end of the 303 or even to the bottom of the acid sea. “singularity” ends this package with great 303 lines definitely burning up the house! a limited and numbered edition of 200, after that it’s gone, no represses, no digital, so you know what to do!

after delivering the 8th polybius trax’s release under myriadd s alias, craig stainton strikes again. and this time he does it under the name of mantra with 4 tracks of jackin , acid house and acid techno. besides publishing as mantra in mythical labels like bunker, solar one music and abstract acid, he has done so in djax-up-beats, crème organization, chiwax, gnosis, boe recordings and many more with his other alias and projects: acid phreex, craig stainton, monofonix, myriadd, modular men and nite vision. with this ep and with its predecessor in the label -a new day- (pt008), shows us of his mastery in the art of invoicing dance music under the different strands of acid.

with the 3-track ep mantra joix opens a new dimension in his electronic music. for the first time he uses his own voice on a larger scale, giving it a machine-like sound that transforms and heightens the meaning of his german words.

the lead track -mantra- refers to the techno movement in germany in the 90s, which joix lived and breathed as a teenager. those mystical experiences staying awake all night in rooms full of light and sound ÔÇ came close to the trance states attained by chanting mantras. this is the main idea and the emotional inspiration behind this pulsating a-side track.

a touch of nostalgia also comes through -w?ñchter der nacht-. this tune channels the mysterious night, the search for ecstasy and self-dissolution in music clubs protected by the guards of night. finally, klimax is a dancefloor banger that distinguishes itself by whipping up immense energy, and its space-filling melody and enormous hall cascades.

with comparisons being made to psykick warriors of gaia, cyclobe and insanlars kime ne this ones definitely making waves amongst fans of.....well....whatever sort of music this is. komodo kolektif is a loose collective of veteran multi-instrumentalists based not in indonesia as one might expect with such a name, but glasgow, scotland, their name being a reference to the indonesian gamelan instruments featured in their compositions. the instruments used (saron, gender, kempul) belong to local gamelan ensemble gamelan naga mas of which two of the musicians have been full-time members for around a decade while the other members are also loosely affiliated and have appeared as guest musicians on various one-off performances and who are themselves well-known musicians in their own rights.
