core family member and crisis founder imre kiss returns to the lobster fray with a deep, riveting and emotive ep for sub-label mörk. infused with the emotional energy of his previous outings whilst plunging into a wormhole of london-centric sonic references, strangers is imre at his most potent and signals a striking return for the budapest producer.

polytechnic youth enter the fray once again, continuing an already productive year (these new 45s are 4/5/6th releases in 2018 already!) with a trio of quite brilliant yet totally different 45s.
alpár aka hungarian bálint zalkai, is the co-founder of farbwechsel, the budapest based record label, and his own recordings of electronic compositions (often built upon random looping sequencers in a minimalist style) are key to the label’s release output thus far. his goal as he sees it is to “catch a random pattern, loop it and build up a piece with that randomly pulsing theme. just let to flow the voltages and sound waves and try not to disturb them or change their basic behaviours”.
the two tracks here were recorded with this approach very much in mind. the atmosphere of “mejiro” is “not unlike a bird observation. attempting to find the right spot, getting closer and closer to the bird, which almost controls you and your movements as you attempt to near it”. whereas “wakayama” is a more direct piece, and maybe the most melodic song alpár ever recorded. while “mejiro” is a woozy, cautious piece, “wakayama is like a tropical fruit or the ume, (the japanese apricot), colourful and full of flavour yet -with thanks to- the slowly humming theme in the background, an element of sourness grips you at the back of your tongue as it ends!

greta cottage new boy duccio lp jumps into the fray. flipping a girthy cut & bringing together a pack of melody heavy boompty tech house arse wobblers. proceedings begin with late night swing - a delicately laced flutey chugging acid pumper ... chunky for those big rig nights. proggy as you like hypeway follows the beauty of spaceways, twinkly and fuzzy like the morning after. sambao brings solid mid west rave gear to mind.. prepped for a wig top knock off the old block. it sounds extatic in jediland, can t feel me legs - go and make some friends in the toilets, then stagger back to the fray…

acid paulis album bld dropped earlier this year and was a superb reminder of martin gretschmanns unique place within the electronic music. breathing musicality and adventurousness into everything that he does, the album covered a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience. following on from the a remix package, b brings another huge selection of producers into the fray to reinterpret the originals. first up, hamburg hero stimming works over ‘amadou - flipping the original, into a techy bomb. a thick kick underpins a shuffling, off kilter rhythm and beautifully treated melodics. stimmings feel for gently pushing the dancefloor into new places shines through. ‘rené is reworked by roman flügel, the ongaku/klang/playhouse boss whose influence on the european electronic music scene has been immense. always willing to experiment, ‘rené is the perfect canvas - arpeggiated blips and beeps echo primitive electronic explorations by the likes of francis bebey, and a huge subby kick drum take this track into space. alex boman sets to work on ‘jeanne, locking into his signature groovy, tribal approach to working the dancefloor. the swedish producer adds dubby elements, an irresistible percussion track and disruptive, random sounds to the thick, heady mix. dutch wunderkind satori tackles ‘jorge - twisting the original into a psychedelic groover that finds room for backwards vocals, marimba-like melodies, fat basslines and shuffling breakbeats.

it’s time to step into the bristol shadows with sector 7 once again as label co-runner boofy invites young echo to the fray for two instrumental grime / dub hybrids. -roll the dice- pelvises with its dense subs and shimmering atmospheric textures while shattering trap snare roll and a mystic melody and skippy drum arrangement flicker in and out of the foreground. -cane sword- is a little more on the pure grime tip with some superb drum momentum, breathless atmospheres and cool samples that skid to a halt when you least expect them. roll again...

untilmyheartstops makes a welcome return to the fray with this sublime four-tracker from emergent swedish producer martinou, previously found sneaking around the sewer sender label. as is customary with umhs releases, the conventions of house and techno are masked by a veil of mystery, where billowing pads and crooked rhythms dig past common or garden variety club tracks to offer something more sublime. from the slender, shimmering unaware to the weighty thrum of excessive, surely and on to the delicately poised i dont wanna wanna feel, martinou proves himself to be entirely in tune with the hidden depths of the label

the green returns with their first full-length release since 2013’s award-winning hawai’i 13. that record debuted at #1 on the billboard reggae chart and cracked the top 100, as well, before going on to win an unprecedented three na hoku hanohano awards in the band’s native hawaii. after years of touring to support that release, the band focused on making their next record with some longtime musical partners, including producers leslie ludiazo (j boog, hot rain) and christian mochizuki (graves). the band also solicited songwriter/producer brian fennell (ryan tedder, one republic, the fray, third eye blind) to help explore some new elements in their sound. the new release has an amazing mix of pop-influenced lovers rock along with the green’s patented island reggae. guests include jamaican dancehall superstar busy signal, grammy-nominees j boog and rebelution’s eric rachmany, as well as island music veterans fiji and the mana’o company.

see double, the london based imprint headed by luca cazal and brigante, returns for its fifth outing, a three track ep from boris werner titled badabing badaboum. a club-ready package and staple of werner s recent sets, sd005 once again proves this amsterdam locals deep knowledge and understanding of how to move a dance floor. played by seth troxler and richy ahmed amongst others and tried and tested by both label boss cazal and werner on dc10s terrace throughout this summer, title track badabing badaboum is a bonafide club smasher. leading the charge with a hypnotic bell riff alongside a chugging 4/4 pulse, werner keeps a driving pace as sluggish and evolving low end theory enters the fray. a deftly constructed, energy filled arrangement progresses before indiscernible, tribal vocal chants take the fore, trading blows with a modulating acid bassline. on the flip werner delivers you snooze you looze, a tech-infused cut adorned with rolling subs, clinical percussion and a head-snapping rhythm. phased synthesis and dissonant sample work pushes the track into uncharted trippy territory, as processed vox stabs and crisp hi-hat patterns maintain momentum, leading to a deeply musical breakdown that offers a truly dynamic shift in mood. closing the ep is whooos in control, a lesson in atmosphere and groove, which sees spaced-out synths interplay with automated stabs. ethereal pads and warped fx float atop werners swung drum programming creating that perfect roller for those early morning moments. sd005 will be available soon in both digital and physical formats.

following an incredible sophomore album for mörk and a stunning self-released white label, grant graduates to the lobster theremin main label with a full ep proper of signature studio deep house.
refined song-writing, valve warmth, studio air and dusty edges, grant’s production style has taken on a life of its own as he’s progressed from early split eps on the lauren bacall to entering the lobster fray. his influences, also showcased via his temporary state label, are worn on his sleeve albeit with a unique sonic quality and structured tension & release that is mastered by so few over such a lulling, woozy template of sound.

one of the core members of the apollonia family is the mastermind behind the label’s latest release. shonky steps up with his first solo ep since ‘plombiére’ which dropped in july 2016. full of funky flavours and that distinct ‘shonky style’, the new ep consists of four brand new tracks produced exclusively for apollonia. each track emanates its own unique vibe, while reppin’ shonk’s irresistible groove. on side a we have ‘tyrolien’, a jaunty number with bright tones and a tight, rolling groove. shonky injects it with a series of unusual fx and what sounds like an wizened old creature, speaking about ‘the foulest stench in the air’. it’s a superb combination and sets the ep off to a great start.next up is ‘beat street’ which has a heavier set of beats, which stomp down as a marauding b-line gets to work. tiny fizzes and cheeps in the background add depth, sounding like robotic birds at play in the wild. the track is minimal in its make up, but deep and engrossing, classic shonky material.flip the vinyl over and we have ‘torro rosso’, a bold, stomping workout with fresh percussion and a jovial analogue riff. as the bubbly low end percolates way down below, the beats pump the track along and an extra layer of analogue funk enters the fray midway through. the final track is titled ‘serpent a&#768,,, sonnette’ and swithes the vibe. it’s loose, meandering and twisted, with a hypnotic bassline and super sharp percussion. this one is going to get the dance floor locked into a groove, as it progresses a sweet, chirpy melody brightens the mood. feel the glow!once again shonky demonstrates his ability to produce groovy dance floor cuts that have their own unique fingerprint, danceable, unusual and utterly captivating. grab the new ep now!

almost a year after his last outing, london-based vester koza is making a welcome return to the fray with a new ep entitled otr. featuring four atmospheric cuts, for the first time it finds him step away from his own maslo label to join houndstooth. fusing elements of dub, ambient and idm into moody sound worlds with you right at the centre, he has a subtle but seductive touch that has always marked him out. an on-going interest in security, technology and privacy characterizes his work, as does a passion for the vintage and modern gear he uses when producing. all of that is evident here in his most cerebral and conceptual release yet.

one of the many delsin off shoots welcomes fast rising shlomo to the fray for a new ep featuring three singular originals and one excellent remix from artekfakt. the taapion records boss has previously released on wolfskuil and bright sounds and here serves up some truly sumptuous space techno. the artefakt remix is actually a collage of all three shlomo originals and is a suspenseful, hypnotic and sublime techno roller that carries you tiny another dimension. this is perfectly heady music for cerebral dance floors.

apotek records takes a conversant and pliable approach to this dialectic ep. jerome sydenham opens the technological fray with the title track dialectic. deep swinging rhythms coupled with a deeply rooted dub vocal truly define its essential neoteric sensibilities. jerome sydenham s remix of macroisms drone is a prime example of take no prisoners berghain techno pure rumpus. the b-side introduces the sophomore single from hot new berlin talent non reversible. the track kuro is absolutely unapologetic in its discharge of nebulous dark thunder techno. powerful! on the last cut, jerome sydenham gets back behind the splicing desk, breaks out the razor blades and deftly edits the echoplex classic pitch break. the results is transcendent hypnotic techno bliss.

** repress 2016 ** two of the black madonnas most sought after early tracks return to circulation alongside one burning new jam on goodbye to all this, the latest release from stripped & chewed. drawn from the chicago labels 2012 compilation livin for the city ep, the piano dappled joy of *exodus* luxuriates across side a, spreading the good word with a pounding beat. *we dont need no music (thank you, rahaan)* from scrs004 takes another whirl around the dancefloor, its pinwheeling horns and infectious vocals pulling even wallflowers into the fray. and in case two remastered sure-shots arent enough, the brand new *who do you need* closes the record with a soulful thwack: half uplifting house, half blistering techno – all peak-time fodder. a fine addition to the black madonnas discography alongside records for argot, the nite owl diner, hometaping is killing music, and of course stripped & chewed.

volupso 5 brings roan elia to the fray with 2 quality minimal grooves. the ep named after the track woo d has been superbly remixed by alexkid. roan has supported some of the most current names in 2015 notably raresh & petre whilst alexkid needs no introduction, he recently released on fuse with enzo siragusa.

volupso 4 sees alboratory label boss dimitri monev enter the fray with two equally sublime tracks. both tracks envisage the style and sound of dimitri progressing through sounds and beats to a deliver a clinical freshness for volupso. both tracks are accompanied by remixes from the highly acclaimed dan farserelli of fuse and lorenzo chiabotti of desolat and moscow records, making voluspo 4 highly desirable.

after landing his malfunctioning px-4000 on the purple planet, captain dmx steps out of the smoldering cockpit. after barely setting foot on the dusty landscape, the captain is startled by deep thudding from over the hills. dragging his oxygen pack with one hand and his atomizer with the other, he sets off in search of the other-wordly din. over the hill his pupils adjust to the stroboscopic lightning and below him lies a sea of strange creatures moving together as one body. a cosmic sermon takes place under the three suns in the sky, mechanical and stuttered frequencies set a manic pace and drive the dark creatures back and forth. captain dmx sighs a heavy breath and starts to descend into the fray.

london based us producer lance de sardi joins the hudd traxx fray for the last 12inch before the label hits 50 releases and commence the 10th anniversary celebrations. although there s only three cuts on west country, de sardi more than shows his diversity as a producer and it s a fine addition to a discography that dates back to the 90s.pariah kicks the ep off in fine style with smooth beats, an infectious vocal and lush pads ensure that this will be a big one for the heads. flip for the b side and find a tough acidy number in youth, and a groovy track in race the clock which is made for the dance floor. 2015 is already proving to be a big year for hudd traxx following releases from iron curtis & nachtbraker, and lance de sardi keeps the flag flying high with this solid ep.

after blazing trails with his debut longplayer exits and wowing the sceptical chat rooms with his all-hardware boiler room blow out, the north country bit smasher returns. the iiva ep is mini album of experiments, re-animations and rebirths. like dr herbert west with a hypo of fluro-serum loops haunt plunges elbow deep into his hardrives sonic corpses unleashing an army of weaponised soundscapes. unlike its big brother exits, iiva sets an immediate agenda, drums burst through fizzing tape hiss and field recorded found sounds are given urgency and purpose. along with an army of hooded mystery collaborators pans nhk even joins the fray with a radiophonic technoid rerub of iiva. all action.

argentinean musician and producer fernando pulichino joins the cynic fray and brings with him a storied reputation that includes a multitude of releases as fernando for the likes of international feel, leng, internasjonal, redux, under the shade, nang, and bearfunk. in addition to his solo work, pulichino has been an integral cog in the 2020 soundsystem, a live act headed by ralph lawson that have been known to close out proceedings at sonar. the stereo drive 12 inch is a fine example of fernandos style, all clean production values with subtle hints of proto house and balearica respectively running through the title cut and b sider -sunset strip-. another killer 12 inch from felix dickinson s revitalised cynic label.

piston recordings label boss rogerio martins is next up on his own well-established label with a new track that gets plenty of great remix treatment from joss moog, james dexter and jr from dallas. martins has steered his label through a dizzying amount of quality releases since 2007 picking up support from the likes of laurent garnier and john aquaviva who have confirmed themselves as fans in the past and this new release is sure to find just as much favour with the top dogs. >gonna be mine< is the one martins original and is a classical inclined bit of mature house music with sombre piano chords draped over nicely shuffling percussion. subtle human sounds litter the arrangement and more lively stabs enter the fray in the latter half but essentially this is all about the warm and inviting groove.
