tools of my purpose goes hard. the new 12inch by e-saggila solo project of rita mikhael who co-runs summer isle records is beautiful, raucous and engaging.

you re alone and you close your eyes. don’t imagine figures of light, make the darkness conscious. it becomes deeper, not eyelids anymore, and then something is around you, but you can’t open your eyes, you’re deep inside them. merge into oneness, not bright above not dark below. something with has no echo. waves and motion, not space and time. if a tree falls in a forest where no one is listening, does it make a sound? there are no signs in the snow. why this dream of something cold? the world is blue at its edges, the colour of that which can never be possessed. blue flames, deep ice, twilight. how do you observe yourself without knowing that you’re looking? the other side of your face. why don’t you let the gap be a gap? i was afraid there was too much space. when you stop focusing the image appears. everything seen at once. turn yourself into a point to get behind the surface. a messenger between two worlds. the hidden meaning behind alchemy: to be born again. you’re not born into this world but out of it. travel by heat, words are too slow. sound knows how to get around edges, wiser than light.

new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

lost tapes recovered from the charred rubble of a post-apocalyptic melt down ‘kiss my smiling face’ is a relic from the distant future. pearl river sound has, to this point, kept a low profile - instead choosing to keep himself holed up away from the horror, emerging only briefly in 2015 to drop his debut 12” via the r&s affiliated meda fury records. in his latest outing, we are mercilessly pushed to the edge, eyelids forced open to witness the terror unfold…

the mysterious dream lovers arrive on uber with the super mellow brasil. a tropical reggae disco tinged balearic shuffler, all loose percussion and soft guitars. reminiscent of studio in their heyday. abel from the redlight records crew dims the lights and strips the og back. layback and feel the sunshine on your eyelids. the second remix comes from maciek sienkiewicz of very polish cut-outs. a quirky almost off beat stripped back version bringing out the guitars and adding extra synths pads. uber warming us up with some balearic heat.

italian producer my dry wet mess, aka giovanni civitenga, is a name that has resonated in the world of left field/beats since its exciting fledgling years. though his father is the bass player for ennio morricones orchestra and a studio guitarist on numerous italian records, from a young age gio was drawn towards hip hop. at the age of 14 his father gave him a sampler and an atari, his beatmaking experiments grew boundless. having released albums on daedleus magical properties imprint and flying lotus brainfeeder, it is a great pleasure for fine grains to present his debut vinyl release – the *laptop lapdance ep*. it comes equipped with remixes from ikonika, dam mantle & auntie flo.

romes egisto sopor has been making little waves with his releases for quite a while now. since we have known him he has released a cdr album on legowelts strange life records and put a cassette out on the much admired 100% silk label, both under the name polysick. as theawayteam he has released a dvd >relax & sleep< and a cd >star kinship< on japanese label moamoo. he is also one half of the low key video unit aavv, whose work has graced many of the important releases of new lofi electronic movement.
well, here is his first album proper >digital native<, 15 tracks of glowing, nocturnal, analogue grace that hark back to acid house and early techno, but with a mood and intent that seems to be designed for watching images dance on closed eyelids. it is no surprise that his work as a video artist resonates so strongly with the music he makes.

the debut that started it all! ugly but honest is a collection of songs (some four-tracked, some demos) from 1996-1999. this was the first release from carissas wierd, originally put out by brown records in 2000. this limited vinyl version is a double lp on opaque baby blue marbled vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve. all lps include a download code.
