it‘s back to the roots for o‘rs with this one. we had a look at our recent digital releases and picked five favorites to press them on a 12“. and since these times make disco records kind of redundant, we just made a‚ no disco ep. but don’t trust the name: this will still make you dance.

a snapshot of the rising dutch jazz scene, the super-sonic family compilation captures a refreshed spirit of talented artists that are shaping the new musical directions within the lowlands. this thirteen track collection connects these unique artists that express themselves beyond the borders of genres.

in collaboration with present books we are happy to present you ‚kätze‘ - a story accompanied by a soundtrack, both written by yannick labbe, krätze is about all the dirt that is to be found beneath the polished surface of our little lives. the book, which was designed by our boy wonder florian seidel, evolves around a modern man living in circles. he is seemingly unable to confront his faults, so he distracts himself with superficial friendships, looking good on the outside and a lot of medication.&#8232,,,,,,, on the soundtrack yannick boils down some dark italo, some playful weird house, some dirty drums and basslines as well as relentless rhythms to a highly potent 5- tracker. there are some 6am basement rollers on this as well as tracks that can be played to accompany a sunrise at an open air beach stage. yet they all have that certain two-sidedness in common, reflecting the idea of the book in a subtle way. krä,tze is nasty. krätze is dirty. krätze is not easily explained. but a little krätze lives inside all of us.

wolkenbett ep is brought to you by claude steiner and yannick sardi. together they form elektro baboushka, a music project born as a result of the duo s close friendship and joint discovery of electronic music. inspired by bands like yello, kraftwerk, and depeche mode, elektro baboushka developed their own style: a blend of ambient and downbeat spiced with jazz grooves and minimal. musically trained in guitar and piano, claude plays the guitar and builds loops while yannick accompanies him with vocals and keyboard. wolkenbett ep features two massive originals and an intricately deep remix by sleep is commercial s andrea ferlin.

they say that good things come in threes… it must be true and favorite recordings also proudly presents the third edition of its acclaimed french disco boogie sounds compilation series. like on prior volumes, the complete tracklist is selected by label head honcho, charles maurice (aka pascal rioux), who’s unearthed 13 more forgotten and hidden tracks, all produced whether in france, in french, or by french artists between 1977 and 1987. with most of these titles now very hard to find in their original edition and unknown by many, this compilation should be a must have for any disco-boogie-funk music lover and collector. fully remastered from originals at the carvery cut (uk), french disco boogie sounds vol.3 (1977-1987, selected by charles maurice) is presented by favorite recordings in a gatefold vinyl double lp

yandom are not new to the scene. but then again they are. the project has been kicked off by yannick labbe and dominik marz, already renowned producers and djs before they decided to join forces in in january of 2017 with their remix for dekodeko on leipzig-based label ors. yandoms productions are discoid excursions to the dark side a sound spanning from leftfield italo-esque productions to straight up techno-bangers. a sound already loved and played by artists like michael mayer, solomun, kornel kovacs and many more. at the moment, yandom are working on eps following their next release on &nd music (scheduled for september 2017). as djs, yandom deliver an infectious and very musical freestyleapproach, dropping anything from techno to vintage classics and held together by a strong foundation of electronica. a yandom-set is anything but random and yes, they do look as good in reality as on the photos.

multi instrumentalist and deep house master lars bartkuhn returns to utopia records following his nomad ep in april with a 10 minute masterpiece, an ode to the massai . an epic journey of such depth and positive spirit it perhaps deserves to render a genre all to itself. with its musicality, complex arrangement and phrasing massai is a timeless and personal statement from bartkuhn as he seeks the essence in what dance music can and possibly should be. as a young child growing up in frankfurt, bartkuhn penned his first pieces of music with a synthesizer and sequencer, bought for him by his parents upon realising their son s obsession with music. mastering the guitar as a teenager bartkuhn fell deeply in love with the music of pat metheny, keith jarrett and john coltrane and styles such as soul, funk, brasilian sounds, minimal, dance, and others which is heard in his music today. by the mid 90 s bartkuhn began to explore the deep and soulful side of house music and formed lamaya productions and the now legendary record label needs (not wants) together with his older brother marek bartkuhn and dj yannick. needs rapidly became a synonym for soulful, high quality music and while labeled a house music imprint it was lars input that lead the trio to explore alternative, and at the time unorthodox, musical influences that allowed for original textures and arrangements to be included in their productions. countless remix commissions followed and their sound travelled worldwide with works for francois kevorkian, jazztronik, ennio morricone, atjazz to name a few. to date bartkuhn has produced five solo albums all of which demonstrate a never ending creative flow of ideas and artistic diversity, complexity and passion. after some years away from the dance music scene, residing in brasil, lars decided to continue this journey on volcov s neroli records, followed by a 12- for alex bradley s phonica affiliated utopia records. the latter release, nomad has found its way into the sets of the likes of jeremy underground paris, hunee, antal, ron trent, rainer truby, bicep and mcde to name just a few. it s at this point that bartkuhn gives us massai...his self proclaimed finest work

moving around a particularly powerful blend of noise, technoid rhythms, synths and sparse vocals that is always kept in a state of high tension, “the future of the sun” presents two pieces that project the listener into a frenetic urban journey. black swords is the result of a spellbinding collision between black rain (stuart argabright) and brussels-based industrial enfant-terribles orphan swords (yannick franck & pierre de mûelenaere).

neben der cd und der 2lp+cd mit coverversionen erscheint eine streng limitierte prachtbox, die nicht nur diese, sondern auch bisher unveröffentlichten originalaufnahmen aus den frühen neunziger jahren, sowie einer verspäteten extended version, die die band selbst noch einmal eingespielt hat enthält. neben den coverversionen, die ja eigentlich alle die zeitlosigkeit der sterne zelebrieren, findet sich in dem in jeglicher hinsicht hochwertigen lp-boxset (gestaltet von yannick riemer von isolation berlin) dann noch etwas, das wohl doch als relikt bezeichnet werden kann. zwei demos der sterne, kleine schritte stolpern und sturm über der hallig, zeigen auf 7-inch-vinyl eine frühe version der band, ganz im charme ihrer hanseatischen jugendlichkeit (1991). die sterne selbst und erobique, sowie pollyester auf der flip, markieren auf einer ebenfalls beiliegenden disco-12-inch das andere ende des zeitstrahls (2016). so werden die beigaben plötzlich zur klammer eines kleinen universums, in dem sich aufzeigt, dass musik am schönsten ist, wenn sie nach 25 jahren bandgeschichte noch immer zwischen lustvoller virtuosität und dem charme des dilettantismus zu pendeln vermag, bringt es hendrik otremba, sänger der band messer im info zum album auf den punkt.

the australian dj, producer and musician jad lee likes to have several irons in the fire all at the same time. for instance hes a member of mitzi (along charles murdoch and dominiqe bird), one half of the pan-pacific indiepop duo twiggy lashes and a solo artist known as jad & the ladyboy. under this moniker he releases music which can be described as soulful house with plenty of disco influences. for never come back down jad had singer mark borgazzi in his studio to cut a precious, groovy two-stepper into a genuine pop diamond. in order not to get only radio airplay, but also to be played out in gloomy underground clubs with extra fat subwoofers yannick provides his homicidal sexfactmix. with its untamed bassline and a milling-machine like synthesizer this feels like an unchecked punch to the gut. there will be blood on the dancefloor!

the dawn ep is the debut release of markey alias sander markey. who recently settled down in berlin, after he was living and working as dj and producer in gent, belgium. now he comes up with four really playful tracks. here he shows his affection for funky grooves and soulful voices. with support from mz. sunday luv, who gave her voice for a freaky intermezzo on dawn, the ep starts offensively. the repetitive groove and the marching 303 bass drum toped with a dark demanding voice have a mystic massage. as contradiction to it you hear a charming dirty string ensemble and an odd delayed snare crushing the monotony. spring break as well as in the shade, the last made in coop with robyns alias yannick robyns, have definitely the warmer funky attitude. playing around with a bobby mcferrin vocal sample and bringing out the soul. facing the clouds is closing the ep as rather melodic and atmospheric track.
