junes kicks off a new imprint, dote, with a full-length exploration of the direct yet dreamlike sound he s made his own. with his usual flair for crisp grooves and ghostly palettes, a view reveals a broader range of nuanced vibes. second wind and stop, elate show a playful buoyancy, and a sense of discovery in tracks like balancing act and two-sided embrace add a narrative pace to the collection. there s time for some of the creeping, spaced out atmospheres that hallmark some of junes previous best, but with tracks like packaging, the realisation of this sound is richer than ever. there s a restless feel throughout the work, too – especially evident in the closer spooked – and a feeling that we ve been on a trip that doesn t end here.

on tuff ruff the ethiopian producer blends cultural vocals and swirling synths with a masenqo lute, giving the track its worldly flair. the composition - a seifu-described mix of ethiopian folk and uk garage, doesnt feel like a dance song theres an ancestral vibe at work, something richer than the typical oontz oontz youd hear in nightclubs. as a result, tuff ruff isnt weird at all. just approach it with an open mind.

bobby b (a.k.a andre ferreira) is perhaps best known as bobby browser, as he is previously issued a pair of eps for the 100% silk label under that name. those records were excellent, but its fair to say that his icee hot debut finds ferreira exploring a richer, deeper sound. >history< is slow-burning deep house jaunt that subtly nods to detroit along the course of its soul-drenched journey. >so true< warms things up, but only slightly, as its relaxed tones, warbling melodies, and loosely stitched breakbeat offer a blissed-out path to the dancefloor.

the latest offering from san franciscos icee hot label finds the young imprint officially welcoming another artist to its gradually expanding roster. that said, contakt isnt exactly a stranger. the michigan-reared, new york-based producer is one of the founders and resident djs at brooklyns turrbotax® party, which has long been a sort of sister party to icee hot. contakt has previously released music for respected outposts like local action, grizzly, and dutty artz, but nobody else and tessera 04 find him taking an important step forward as an artist, delivering tunes that are richer and more really realized than anything from his past. particularly on nobody else, contakts flair for big-room melody remains intact, but he takes notes from classic kms, filling out the songs cresting synths with a full-bodied bassline, a hooky vocal sample and a sturdy rhythmic underpinning. tessera 04 goes deeper, channeling maurizio while delving headlong into a dense cloud of synths and maintaining a steady sense of forward momentum. on the flipside, icee hot resident ghosts on tape continues his recent hot streak, infusing nobody else with punchy drumwork and a potent rave sensibility. detroit legend robert hood then rounds out the release, transforming tessera 04 into a pulsing and purring slice of heady analog techno.

nice price deal !!! vae victis is back for its 2nd release and is glad to welcome the very first debut of nightjars. with this 4 tracks ep the label shifts on a different musical path, sound and style wise. sound wise, both sides are written, mixed and produced on hardwares and polarized on a ferromagnetic tape. technically, side a (raw side) is mixed with a tough multitrack mixer brought to its saturation limit: the sound is indeed distorted, raw and unfriendly. while the flipside (clean side) is instead mixed with a big class a vintage studio mixer. the sound is brighter, richer of harmonics and the infrasounds are charged thru a wide dynamic range. style wise,the label shifts on a more broken beat field, lets call it bass, dubstep or whatever, but anyway something which should put this vinyl in the records bags of all the lovers of shed, peverelist and horsepower productions to name a few.

the boston based alternative rock band buffalo tom formed in 1986. the band around singer/ guitarist bill janovitz became one of the more popular alternative rock bands by the mid 1990s. the 1992 album let me come over was truly the great leap forward for the band, sounding richer, more imaginative, and more emotionally powerful than anything they d recorded before.
