joe herrick - dream reading: extrapolation records are proud to present the first record by joe herrick, dream reading. comprising of 14 tracks from a vast archive of his material we’ve been listening to for the last 5 years, the album moves from ambient soundscapes to off kilter hip hop and house, all held together by herricks individual use of looping and samples. euphoric, psychedelic, paranoid, rugged, claustrophobic all at once, the dream scenarios throughout include a variety of daily work events, journeys to different locations, family matters, sex acts, and encounters with other human individuals, animals, and deities.

following the u.s. army’s liberation of munich in may 1945, the world’s first amerikahaus was inaugurated there with a library, a magazine reading room, a children’s library, a record and lm department, and lecture and seminar rooms, together with a concert hall and exhibition space. up to 80.000 people a month utilized the offerings of amerikahaus during its early years. beginning in 1953, the united states information agency (usia), an institution founded as an instrument of the cold war, began to finance amerikahaus. in addition to representing the u.s., its principal task in west germany was to democratize and denazify the postwar population. after the beginning of the cold war, many of these re-educative measures also served as propaganda in a programmatic linking of democratic and economic principles meant to strengthen transatlantic relations against the communist bloc. in 1997, the u.s. government concluded its work at amerikahaus in munich and shipped almost all its items back to the states. however, 1.630 long-playing vinyl records from the library were left behind in cardboard boxes in the basement. when michaela melián looked through this forgotten collection, one of the first things she came across was don gillis’ 1940 tone poem »portrait of a frontier town«, whose second movement is entitled »where the west begins«. don gillis, a composer and radio producer, used the musical styles and genres of that decade to create an explicitly american program music. michaela melián’s »music from a frontier town« is fueled by the diverse sonic material of this extensive record collection once considered as an instrument of cultural education. this record has been produced in addition to melián’s twenty-four hour performative music installation »music from a frontier town« in the garage of what is now the bavarian center for transatlantic relations at karolinenplatz, munich (4-5 may 2018).

reissue - miraculously rare and seriously obscure killer dubs. one of the very few hard core seventies dub albums mixed by errol brown. a selection of solid dubs originally recorded in 1978 by bb seaton at duke reid s legendary treasure isle studio and mixed in-house by the duke s nephew errol brown. a radical departure for all concerned this bold dub album was never officially released although a few clandestine copies reputedly did the new york rounds at the time. mojo by david katz - extremely rare 1978 dub album stands up against any from that era - -errol brown began engineering through family connections, producer duke reid was his uncle. trained by the highly-skilled byron smith, chief engineer at reid s treasure isle facility, brown cut his teeth mixing alton ellis, the paragons, peter tosh and marcia griffiths. -orthodox dub- dates from 1978 when bb seaton of the gaylads was working closely with brown at treasure isle, cutting tracks with ken boothe and mikey dread along with self-produced work, and although only ever issued in tiny numbers as pre-release lp in the bronx, these dubs pack a mighty punch, easily on par with any of the dub sets issued in the era by channel one or joe gibbs. outstanding tracks include -roots rockas-, a stripped down cut of boothe s -who really cares-, and -black forest rock-, a bass-heavy reading of seaton s -is life-.-

a legendary album! this previously unreleased album by os mutantes was supposed to be their breakthrough album to an english speaking market – but for years it’s only been talked about in hushed whispers, and has only been heard by a lucky few! the record was recorded in paris in 1970 – and it’s all in english! (not that we’re biased against portuguese, mind you – but since we’re english speakers, it’s kind of a nice thing to have a record that we can understand!) the record features a number of tunes from the mutantes first two albums – redone here with translated lyrics, and in a compressed pop style that’s a bit smoother than the original albums, but still very nice! in fact, the record’s a sophisticated pop statement that would have stood well in the company of many of the best of 1970s rock elite – had the boneheads at philips actually decided to release the record! no use crying over spilled milk, though – because the album’s out now, and it’s filled with loads of nice tracks like -panis et circensis-, -batmacumba-, -tecnicolor-, -el justiciero-, -i’m sorry baby-, -saravah-, and a sublime reading of -baby-, a track that was virtually the manifesto for tropicalia!

hope are in the black phase. everything around them is obscured. every lyric and every spark of music, every photograph and every recording is drenched in black. it’s not the black of wave or gothic bands, but the unpretentious black of portishead or talk talk. a black arising from a wound and at the same time covering the wound, burying it. a scab. a black letting you forget the jazz, the academics, and the provinces that hope has come from. in germany, jazz, academics and the provinces are very close, and hope had to live through most painful experiences, play many unnoticed concerts, and remain unloved to find the love for themselves and their music. only this explains the dark stringency and consequence of their self-titled debut album (produced by olaf opal), featuring monolithic songs like cell, kingdom and raw. songs, sounding rather like dystopic infinity than a light-hearted debut album. songs, compressed to one word, as if the listener should not waste any time with reading, but start listening. listen and dive into the endless hope wave of sound, vehemence and black. and yes, during all of this, the iconic singer christine börsch-supan is naked. we can only guess her contours - it is too dark.

de-bons-en-pierre is a project from beau wanzer & maoupa mazzocchetti. beau wanzer spends the majority of his days sifting through paraffin embedded animal tissues and reading old issues of fangoria, occasionally breaking his monotonous routine to record in various fits and bursts. as well as solo material, he is also in numerous projects including streetwalker, mutant beat dance, civil duty, and corporate park. he s released on many labels including, diagonal, l.i.e.s, cititrax, nation, rush hour, and light sounds dark. maoupa mazzocchetti is the pseudonym of florent mazzocchetti, a french producer based in brussels. florent is strictly devoted to a diy mentality around music production and his sound revives the electro-industrial aesthetic of the late 70s and early 80s. hes released notable productions on labels such as unknown precept, prr! prr!, knekelhuis and mannequin records.
