knapp zwanzig jahre, 13 soloalben und unzählige tourneen lang war pi auf der suche: nach seiner vorstellung vom leben und deren verpflanzung in seine kunst, seinem standpunkt als gewachsener musiker und erwachsener mensch, seinem platz in der hip hop-szene, der welt und weiter. nun ist der berliner da, wo er immer hinwollte: da, wo oben ist - ohne dabei das unten aus den augen verloren zu haben. pi hat über all die jahre seine dues gepayt, wie es im hip hop-jargon heißt. und im zuge dessen hat er begriffen: -nichts war umsonst.- eine erkenntnis, die er konsequenterweise zum titel und leitmotiv seiner neuen platte gemacht hat. auf den ersten blick mag dieser satz wie eine floskel klingen. wie eine plattitüde. eine binsenweisheit ohne belang. doch wer pi kennt und sich ein wenig mit seinen werken und seinem wirken der vergangenen zwei dekaden auseinandergesetzt hat, der weiß, dass er noch nie auch nur einen schritt ohne grund getan hat. außer rebell zu sein vielleicht. -jede stunde, die verstreicht, kostet zeit, die noch bleibt / und frisst auf, was noch kommt: nichts war umsonst.-

his last solo, as submarine ep for sun generation rec. has been charted on american >balance< chart for 12 weeks and played by: carl cox, jeff mills, fergie (uk bbc1), cris fortier, dj dero (argentina) performing both as a deejay and a live act he combines various styles (techno, tribal and groovy, minimal tech house) rather than sticking to just one.

12inch full of music with a definite sense of place. eerie synthesiser pulses, funk-infused drums and languid guitar-scapes have been part of the musical topology of düsseldorf since the early seventies: and this particular release pays full tribute to that legacy, with jagd auf den hirsch (hunt for the stag) comprising an eerie piece of swampy lazer-forest rock. this sound is also a modern day staple of düsseldorfs nightlife at the salon des amateurs, a small bar attached to the kunsthalle art gallery that is an oasis of hypnotic disco nightmares. the salon is where der räuber und der prinz made their first live appearance in 2008 (when the original composition for moogwalzer was debuted), and both members of the band frequently play there: ralf beck with his bodyrocking club act unit 4 and sebastian as half of art-rock duo noblesse oblige. meanwhile two of the guests on this release - detlef weinrich also known as toulouse lowtrax, contributing words about a ghostly maiden on moogwalzer, and thomas klein contributing drums to jagd auf den hirsch - are both original members of the quintessential düsseldorf act kreidler. salon dj resident vladimir ivkovic also had a hand in the creative clarion call for the jagd auf den hirsch (hunt for the stag). to complete the circle, düsseldorfs new resident and desolat mainstay guti wrote his remix in the middle of the night in buenos aires, as a kind of letter to his new home-to-be. there we have it: a true tribute to a city we love, with tracks for the dancefloor as well as moments of melancholic contemplation.

first on decks.de! mitja prinz, one of the most successful djs in berlin, with his own series of events yes in the watergate, strikes back with his next awesome release >bosco ep< on aspekt records. the new great 4 track ep includes the tracks bosco, back in the day, mutu and bash. on side a you can expect fresh house with a hint of groovy jazz elements. tangy tech-house on side b, sounds tempting and has charm, groove and sex appeal. no wonder that the new aspekt release is not matchable with one of the previous records once again. moreover its worth it to hear!

it is something of tradition for tosca to get their albums remixed. indeed, they once released a record comprised entirely of 13 mixes ofone song, 2002s *different tastes of honey*, variations on *honey* from 1999s *suzuki*. it is a way of keeping things fresh, injecting someuncertainty into proceedings, knocking things out of balance in order to check how they should be re-aligned. after releasing *odeon* earlier this year, tosca comes back with *tlapa - the odeon remixes*. *tlapa* meaning, this life arouses pure adventure. the remixes come from bredon moeller, joyce muniz, siler city, ltj experience, beat pharmacy, marlow & truby, sephane lefrancois, afg aka antye greie and rodney hunter. the double vinyl comes with a cd-copy included.
