asc decided it was time to return to the music that he grew up on. with a gentle nudge from presha, the breakbeats were back in the mix and a slew of mid 90’s-inspired drum & bass ensued. the majority of the heavier break-oriented and edit-ladened were set aside for projects with samurai, however, there were a grip of tracks that were more at home with the older atmospheric / intelligent styles of drum & bass from the mid 90’s. ideasthesia is the culmination of that work. four tracks of atmospheric drum & bass in its most unadulterated form. no drum machines at work here, just sped up breakbeats, heavy 808 bass, blissful pads, and ethereal textures. ideasthesia is a true love letter to a golden age of music which sadly seems long forgotten.

morgan tomas is a dj/producer from france, who also runs the label reloading records along with a weekly podcast. in the past years, he has had several releases out on labels such as sleaze, nachtstrom schallplatten, prosthetic pressings and silent steps. he has been supported by great artists who often play his tracks. his music is a deep rooted techno, dark and energetic. with this album, he tried to reflect on several types of techno, using different environments, with a wide range of musical styles.

nice price deal !!! the first release from il bosco aka christian wood aka woody aka crowhead aka nudge! a man of many names he has been part of the make up of manchester club land for many years. he was resident dj at fat citys infamous friends and family night & a recording artist for grand central and aim’s atic records during the noughties. after a couple of years hiatus he’s back out of the studio with four tracks and taking a new direction. the tempo is up and a mutation of old school rave, italo, house and electro is in the offing.

while yacht refers to >dystopia (the earth is on fire)< as a post-apocalyptic fight song and a cautionary tale, the tracks chant-along melodies and unsparing synths nudge listeners far closer to dance than despair. from the sound of things, that reaction will likely also be elicited by two new remixes of the portland duos song, from their 2011 long player shangri-la. legendary production duo justin strauss and bryan mette, aka whatever/whatever, completely rework the sound of >dystopia< on their version, reorienting it with heavy doses of funk. while the original rides atop buzzing synths, the whatever/whatever remix adds a thick bassline and shimmery keyboards that leap out like solar flares. on the flipside, uk-based emperor machine starts their dystopia remix with a dubby feel – every vocal echoing endlessly – and then u-turns into wholly a updated, yet classic, disco sound. the rhythms are sultry, slinking behind a deep, repeated, synthline, its a recipe for an unexpectedly smooth, subtly hypnotic, and utterly danceworthy song.
