jonas friedlich, better known through mistress recordings and carl gari, releases his first solo 12- on molten moods. the versatile 4 track ep starts with the rather straight -bo s breakfast- that begins with a polyrhythmic 303 bass line leading into a catchy garage-ish chorus, kicking in out of a clear sky but fittingly. -bus driver- is a wicked trip, the combination of the long acid build up and a nicely chopped vocal bit is irresistible. a proven, tested (and molten moods certified) club banger, regardless of its rather untypical breakbeat. track number 3 called -praise your name- aces groove through perfectly cut vocal samples and a fancy reference to 90s hip hop and drum n bass aesthetics. the next and last piece on the record is the eponymous -deskjet-, which is inspired by friedlichs conceptual sound art installations using printers. here rather restrained synthie lines are underpinned by a powerful kick and psychedelic tape delay noises. the 12- vinyl is handstamped on both sides. mastered and cut by scape mastering. artwork by paul bernhard.

molten penguin is young project bringing together top instrumentalists from ghents experimental jazz/fusion/crossover-scene.inspired by jazz, hiphop, drum&bass, hudson mohawkes boiler room sessions and the abstract electronic worlds of aphex twin and amon tobin.

from the knowledge gained on our expeditions, we are able to track down the jets fired during each unique eruption and share them with the people of this majestic orb.
the first squirt led us to the yard in hackney, where ross from friends performed live for one of the first few times in his already sparkling career.
>from the performance came a track called ‘champagne’, a wave of sax washing over you accompanied by plinking guitar and of course those fuzzy hi hats that go right to your head.
this track could previously only be experienced by seeing the trio play live or by watching our documentation of the performance, until now.

the fifth release from the bunte kuh label is another winner: it comes from bardia salour and features three fresh originals with a remix from peter schumann. it s also set to be available on vinyl release too. salour is a german artist who runs his own esteemed events in hamburg and has played all over europe from watergate in berlin to culture box in copenhagen. his dub infused style is utterly distinctive and these new cuts prove that once more. north scapes opens up with a molten, acid tinged bassline. as it grows more wild there are icy hi hat loops layered in with some big piano chords to finish it in style and mean the floor will really go wild. liquid lava is more direct, with hard hitting techno kicks and deft synth sounds colouring in the grooves. then comes the excellent urban signals, a dramatic, dubbier cut with cavernous bottom ends and subtle, supple synths layering in warmth and atmosphere. last of all, peter schumann s lsd25 restyle of north scapes pairs it back to a warm, bubbly warm up house tune that will get you moving with its sonar blips and nice, deep cut and churning drums. all four of these tracks are fresh and classy efforts sure to make their mark.

a new adepth audio record featuring canadian rennie foster, including a remix of nomadico (dj dex/underground resistance). the title track witch hazel is a 9 minute long track with no breakdown and a minimal approach to arrangement, with organic elements cycling in and out subtly rather than obviously beginning and ending. a rolling half time, tribal groove drives the power of the track with a haunting vocal sample and layers of percussion creating a heady, polyrhythmic hypnosis on the dance floor. not since rennie s well known devil s water has he presented such an overtly occult offering as this extremely finely crafted ep, and this song represents the initial seduction of the record to the listener very effectively. the second track, navigator, is a drum machine driven workout, again with a polyrhythmic and tribal vibe, this time drenched in a rich, holographic pad that morphs and moves in unexpected ways. minimalistic in presentation, this track is bass heavy and functional for the dj, yet artistic and emotional. the nomadico remix by dj dex of underground resistance takes the elements of witch hazel and re-constructs them in a futuristic style with a more driving kick and molten detroit attitude. a heavier techno approach to the piece, but still intact is the melancholic atmosphere of the original and siren song of the vocal sample. this mix includes a dramatic breakdown and unique arrangement familiar to fans of nomadico s awesome yaxteq label. the last track on the ep is called crossing the boundary is possibly the only track in this style to sample distorted vocals usually associated with black metal, making this a very unique, perhaps polarizing, experiment in sound. evocative of the desolation of deep space and suggestive of sonic dark matter. this track combines rennie s singular approach to dub techno with ambient and drone music and the result is like nothing else currently in existence.

having recently made his inaugural outing on brainfeeder with aphelion ep, british producer ross from friends aka felix clary weatherall returns with his debut album on flying lotus label. family portrait is characterised by a perpetual desire to experiment and felixs obsessive attention to detail, somehow marrying an intricately layered production style with warm, heavily saturated sonics that elevate, rather than stifle, his melodious funk. with a handful of revered 12inches under his belt via breaker breaker, lobster theremin, distant hawaii, magicwire and a 10inch on molten jets. family portrait showcases his ability to shift and evolve, moving from the world of lo-fi to the world of flylo, he demonstrates a versatility exemplified by the ease in which he can switch between playing shows with little dragon, holding down a peak-time slot in berghains panorama bar and performing live at maida vale for bbc radio 1. the double vinyl release includes a download code.

b1: jonas friedlich’s eps on molten moods and four triangles are a good example of what techno’s style is all about: tape delay is his weapon of choice, often with vocals and rarely straight beats. with “jazzersizzzze” he ties in masterfully to it.
b2: p-t2 has become an integral part of the red sun (club rote sonne) in just a few years, indulging her fondness for the harder pace of club music. accordingly, their rfr post is an acid board, as it is written in the book.

total makt is the molten new ep from evigt morker. there s plenty to be charmed by as the collection of tracks open out and tame our senses. once the flirting fades, we are quite casually led down bumpy, aqueous routes into something, and slowly we are funnelled into evigt morker s terrain, eventually arriving in darker corners of the fantasy that first caught our eye.

rhyw is alex tsiridis aka one half of cassegrain. on this, his solo debut for arcing seas, his smoul-dering alien techno sound manifesto continues to thrive over three unique tracks. the morphing, deconstructed acid of unpunishable - a molten statement of lusty intent - strikes first in a heady, hazy pummelling of doom-funk. ‘vertisol pushes crisp and dry snaking percussion through an anechoic chamber, the bass end neatly warming at first then burning hard through your mid section. an icy cold shot of ‘aqua velva is the final offering - a pushing sub-level trip through rhyws private domain - where tingling rushes of bass and static charges wash over us leaving a sinful residue. arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name. a year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together

spanish techno artist aiken is back on his own timeline label with another ep that offers up four more of his evocative takes on the genre. it comes after previous outings on non series and semantica and is his label’s first release since 2016. “basic principles” is up first and mesmerises with a pulsing lead synth line that forever changes shape. pummelling drums power along below and add up to a disorientating and hypnotic overall effect. “theory” is deeper and more rubbery, with manic synths and pads all racing along and pilling on the pressure while “midline” is right out fo the jeff mills playbook with its molten sci-fi synths journeying through outer space. clean, crips drums are upright and taught and get you on your toes, then “restriction” closes things out in superb minimalist fashion. this ep covers plenty of ground, and all of it is utterly compelling.

the ‘matière obscure ep’ is the first in a two-part series, whereby each composition was made using only recordings from one specific material (metal, glass and wood). the process involved taking everyday objects and making them resonate in every way possible, such as striking them with mallets or using a violin bow, and building up a sample library. ‘weld (metal_01)’ kicks off the release with its syncopated percussion and gritty groove before moving into the cavernous ‘molten (glass_01)’ that’s composed of rolling drums and sinister atmospherics. ‘carve (wood_01)’ is a lot bouncier by comparison, with its fidgeting bassline and murky tones until the menacing ‘cast (glass_02)’ concludes the package with machine inspired effects and a cacophony of stabs.

neil landstrumm and tobias schmidt are two men responsible for modern day electronic music. when the sound crawled out of the primordial speaker, this pair were there to welcome it. for more than twenty years the two have worked together as sugar experiment station and arrive on shipwrec for their first collaboration in eight years. this is a 12- born in burning furnaces of bass. moulded in those low frequency fires, smelted in the thumping heat, are beats, beats hardened like steel before being shaped into lancing points. with these tools of rhythmic brimstone ses goes about destroying dancefloors before reinventing them. chords are rolled in gravel, doused in distortion and rinsed in static. a style forged from the friction of pistons, the sweat of the assembly line, before being dipped in a searing liquor of circuitboards and molten microchips. ses - sugar experiment station - shattering every stereotype.

since four triangles was founded to release material from previously unheralded artists working in the space between house, techno and vintage rave, it seems fitting that the label’s second release should come from an analogue explorer still making his way in the world.

pitch black mirror is the new full length album from industrial techno veterans orphx. rich oddie and christina sealey have created a diverse and distinctive body of work over the last 23 years and this album may be their most definitive statement yet.

the mysterious but widely acclaimed r-zone series roll on to a 15th ep now with a new four track release that is as essential as ever. opener hired gun is a tough and raw concoction with coarse, snappy snares, rough drum pings and lots of abrasive texture all making for a physical listening experience. midwinter is a deeper and more emotive jam with warm pads dampening down icy hi hats and busy synth work. it is fresh and original and sounds like little else, then captive gets all deep and space-y with smeared pads and slick metallic hits tied together with a molten acid line. lastly, exile is five blissful and beautiful minutes of atmospheric, intergalactic electronic sounds that really take you to another place

moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!

inside these airless sarcophagi, the passing of time renders objects once forged from molten metals as fragile as paper, so delicate a gust of wind could destroy them for ever. once deadly weapons now oxidised to dust are proof of the futility of man in the face of time. all regimes will crumble over years, all empires turn to dust…the more potent an object in its former life, the more poignancy in its nebulous disintegration. the shattered radio controls, the gun turned to a rusted block like a child s toy, the bullets corroded to nothing are all exiled from their brutal pasts. what messages are locked in time that passed through the obliterated decoding machine, who alive if anyone can tell its secrets.

egyptrixx gives a glimpse into his forthcoming second album on night slugs with the vinyl-only cut *water (reduced)*. the hi-definition crystalline world of his previous album *bible eyes* has sunken, submerged. *water* takes place in some vast molten expanse, a subterranean electrical storm expressed as acid-tech. this 12 inch features the reduced dub, stripped of melody to for full hypnotic effect. the full version can be heard on the forthcoming album, titled *a/b til infinity*. on the flip: helix keeps bootlegging our records. he cuts up the masters and edits them up like fruity loops lego, applying the same post-timbaland stutter-logic that was amplified so dramatically in 03-06 grime. here he puts his hand to egyptrixx blastbeats-heavy *adult*, also taken from the forthcoming *a/b til infinity* lp. the results are extremely punishing but compelling listening.

hot on the heels of the release of neville watsons songs to elevate pure hearts album, crme organization releases a three track ep of remixes from the longplayer. drawing on diverse names, each of the remixers transforms their given track into something quite different from the original. the first is by watsons frequent collaborator, bulgarian producer and live specialist kink. he tackles songs to elevate pure hearts and laces it up with some lazy old rave breakbeats and plenty of lucid synth and melody pattern before fast rising dixon avenue basement jams associate marquis hawkes takes on against the tide . he imbues it with what is fast become a trademark sonic weirdness, with wrought iron synth bars interlocking with molten synth lines and a slow, purposeful and predatory mood. finally, american moon b turns in a trippy outsider house version of son of house with off kilter claps, see-sawing synths and organic drums.
