the maghreban returns to r&s for a new single following his dark debut album 01deas, perhaps with an icier sound. monster vip is a reworking of a double time rap track from the maghrebans strange u side project he added breaks and rolled it out. end level bosses lurk. beware of the monster. rave navel-gazing back to his roots: his first ever release was a jungle 12inch in 1994. early support from ben ufo. on the flip, batu (timedance/xl) offers up crisp percussion and ominous sound design in his energetic 140 remix of album opener eddies. then the ep is closes out with carpet bombing, the title of which references the producer adding more and more notes to the main percussive motif as it builds and builds.

planet mu are very happy to be releasing “vicious circles”, the debut ep by sinjin hawke and zora jones, who aside from producing music also run the audio-visual production unit “fractal fantasy”. zora released several collaborations on last year’s “visceral minds 2 including “dark matter” with planet mu’s jlin, while sinjin has collaborated with dj rashad, just blaze and mikeq, and also produced music for monoliths like kanye west and frank ocean. remarkably, given the breadth of their work, “vicious circles” is their first collaborative ep, and the first time either have released on vinyl.

it s time for a fresh new release from the apollonia stable, and this time around we unveil four groovy gems from shonky and tolga fidan working together for the first time, giving us a winning combination and one which is sure to satisfy fans of both artists. the first track dynamo sets the tone for the ep, the bassline has a deadly groove, while playful effects dance around at the top end creating an immersive atmosphere. intergalactic vibes. after that comes bastille , which features a similarly jaunty rhythm with a variety of bleeps, chirps and twangs layered on top on each other to give the track its depth and character, while a menacing b-line does its dirty work in the low end.on the flip we get micro-ondes , a mysterious into the undiscovered lands of planet funk. you feel as though you ve been transported to another world, where warped creatures lurk, calling out for your attention. as for the bass, its rhythm is utterly contagious. finally americana completes the collection, maintaining the unusual use of sound prevalent throughout the ep it utilises a myriad distorted instruments. support in the low end comes via a tough, punchy bass riff.

listening back to roman poncets first releases on figure just a couple years ago, they already hinted at the producers keen technical abilities and a knack for rich texturing, resulting in tracks that were both carried by force and form. what he delivers now is an impressively mature debut album, ripe with personal creative realization. on gypsophila the french producer uses the extended format to slowly shape up a scenery of epic proportions where surprise and constant change lurk around every corner.

argentinian veteran jorge savoretti has been djing for more than 20 years, and his first release for esperanza records traces back to 2005. in this time laps he has produced 2 albums, 20 eps and a great number of remixes, on labels such as raum musik, visionquest and ilian tape. his debut on cadenza is a crisp breeze of graceful music for dancing. side a starts point-blank with bou gei bouncing shuffle, driving bass line, lively cymbals, sparkling band-passed chords, summing-up jorge s true dedication to nightclubs and nightlife. with no reprieve, ruth suspicious pads lurk behind a funky swinging rhythm spruced up by a continuous surfacing of snare rolls and giggly stabs. on the b side, sensu dub explores without hesitation darker textures and resonances, leaving no concessions to leave the dancefloor. finally u-fonk #04.01 dives into sweating hotblooded late-time hours, with am hypnotising deep-toned coil, soaked of greasy riffs and gloomy fumes.

a new year means new musical horizons here at the bordello. curses formed his sound in the distortion and sweat of back alley dive bar bars amidst the crash of guitars and the audible gulp of beer. hints of disco and wave balance this rougher edge, smoothing down those creased lines for a style that adheres to no boundaries. -pedal to the metal and don t look back- is a perfect introduction to curses multifaceted sound. beats orbit burbling bass and brash strings in a work of dreamy hypnotics. -knife in teeth- comes from a similarly shadowy lair. dark bars are further inked by industrial percussion in a track born on the factory floor to strict ebm parents. terr takes on -pedal to the metal and don t look back- and does the original proud. bass rumbles to the tune of a guttering engine before lighter notes take hold. murky currents are cleared by bright synth blasts in this uplifting remake. the bird of paradise closes the ep with his psychedelic take on -knife in teeth.- drums take on a more sinister tone as tribal rhythms give rise to jungle imagery and the immediate threat of what might lurk behind those supposedly innocent sounds.

presented on vinyl for the first time, heres the awesome score of one of the most ambitious spaghetti westerns ever, the forgotten pistolero a.k.a. il pistolero dell’ave maria from 1969 by the duo comprised of roberto pregadio and franco micalizzi. with a title like this, you can probably already feel the music - a dark toned take on the spaghetti western sound of the time - served up with the kind of brooding, haunting themes that provide a perfect backdrop for a man on a mission! relatively spare and moody, it offers a unique blend of jazzy rhythms, western themes, electric guitar and whistling. instrumentation is nicely compressed at points - driving passages lines that lurk around the bottom of subtle orchestrations - creating subtle-stepping drama without pushing things too far over the top. the soundtracks is released in a hand numbered 500 copies limited edition 180 gram white vinyl in gatefold sleeve including the original cinema poster of the movie.

idle hands continues its quest to support new talent coming out of bristol with a fresh 12inch from local beatsmith crump. up to this point, he s been quietly slipping out razor sharp reduced house cuts on various artist releases for extended play and banoffee pies, but it s high time he had a 12inch of his to truly showcase his sound. the two tracks on this single tap into a consistent thread on idle, fusing the minimal sensibilities of contemporary european house music with a swung, dub-weighted presence fit for soundsystem consumption in the fair city we call home. much like previous releases from leif, christian jay and matt karmil, this is a demonstration of stripped down music loaded with swagger. -ice & spheres- pivots around an ear-snagging 2-step shuffle that cuts through any mix, but there s scores of subtlety woven in between the drums to reward the attentive listener. snatches of vocal, distant field recordings, low-blowing synth licks and other unidentifiable sonic matter lurk quietly in the mix to cast a spell on the sleep-deprived twitcher and warm-up head-nodder alike. sporting a brighter disposition thanks to the sheen of its chords, -mechanisms- provides a different vibe on the flip. the beat throws down with a rugged nod to west london broken styles while still tapping into that aforementioned continental 4/4 sensibility, injecting a refreshing variation into the densely populated minimal house landscape while maintaining the meditative qualities that keep the genre close to our hearts

after releasing space control an intergalactic journey into synthesizers, back in 2012, the theremynt duo went on to release a successful, if steady, stream of eps, including robotique de l amou r and vampiros discos (a tribute to brazilian filmmaker ze do caixao). with remixes coming from the likes of david carretta, acid washed and club bizarre, these were playlisted by scene djs such as marvin & guy and ivan smagghe, amongst others. now yann and eva are striking back with their second lp, parallels. it s a record that sees them changing their colour palette and mood, but one that s still haunted by ghosts that lurk within their synthesizers and drum machines. the 10 tracks still exhibit peel s ever shifting vocal style and yann s sophisticated arrangements. but the second lp oscillates between ballad and dancefloor, landing between cosmic disco influences, krautrock and other progressive techno sounds. as a bonus, the album also features a cover of famous 80 s anthem self control. clean slate is the first release from addremove on swiss label thrènes. there isn’t a lot to say about addremove himself or herself as he/she prefers to keep their identity unrevealed, at least for the moment, so lets concentrate on the music. clean slate consists of 5 original tracks and a remix from jk flesh (project/alias of justin broadrick of godflesh, final and jesu).

exclusive title so what is it exactly that has locked me into this? which one is that magnetic hook? how many grooves are in this? simple questions, but those always lurk on our minds when we are alone with these four bombs on this ep. thousands of noises, peeps, beats, strums do also make us delirious. and think the mind behind this music tries to imagine a world before house and techno, while being actually well informed about those nasty styles. these exceptional works come from jimmy winkles slater, a guy running our favourite radio-show on this side of milky way greta cottage workshop with onlyz world is much happier place now.

under the tablecloth of steve murphy and die roh first releases, madi grein has recently collaborated with sagats (boss of noho records) for two exciting 90s flavoured ep for housewax and eat more house. being a full time of the riviera and the vape/vulcano projects, he can be considered without doubts a true ambassador of the sound of brenta. “mainly love” is a truly dancefloor ep, raw and old-schoolish. clean drums drive an hypnotic vocal hook on “mantide”,sleaking a visceral dribbling bass. “express yourself”, has been heavily influenced from a short trip to london, as fast broken beats lurk under acid frequencies, soulful vocals and scattered piano fills. “i m feeling hot“ is pure sweat for the dancers. its remix marieu (half of the analogue cops and boss of restoration and enlightenedwax) which closes the record with a reckless remix with strange guitars and mysterious alien samples.

razor sharp futuristic textures from the bristol based producer, dropping one of his deadliest eps to date. stratagalastico is an absolute bomb of machine-made dynamite, dark and deadly for those who like to lurk in the shadows. creepy shenanigans are most certainly the order of the day, but with that said, marco ends the ep with a deep, melodic piece titled bugs in the virus, a transcendent composition that enriches the stratagalastico experience and completes the package. killer!

dachshund is a living example of a musician who doesnt take himself too seriously: his lively productions, where his passion for experimentation in rhythm and sound are clearly evident, stand out as a welcome departure from the sterile work of so many other heads in the scene. besides humor, an easy-going jamaican feeling characterizes his sets and tracks: the swiss dj, producer and label owner has his musical roots in reggae, which he has followed all the way to the sunny caribbean. no wonder then, that we can hear the dub influence in his current musical output. true to form, dachshund presents his latest release on the berlin record label, highgrade records, where the beats will blister through the speakers in unexpected combinations and grooves. around every corner there seems to lurk a new mad idea or sound sequence from dachshund, who leads his listeners equally as he misleads them on the dancefloor. with a sly musical wink, he offers us three tracks >shall we<, >soul free< and >tell me< produced with sophistication and elegance. these tunes switch almost imperceptibly into a grooving mind-trip that perfectly fits the title of the ep. this is the equivalent of a relaxing invitation to dance: >shall we<? … but, of course!

they live in the clubs, eat through their noses and sleep standing up. the cheapers do the same, but the title no groupies and ugly dancers is directed at the mean faced ravers and talkers that lurk in the dark corners of club. the cheapers are sending a message to all those types with this release, upon you 36. they begin by lighting a bonfire on a1, dancing around the fire like crazed polka-shamans, until the final minimal priest has thrown his bible into the embers. next they attack the unwashed go-gos, hobby strippers and ugly dancers on b1. eventually reaching out and apologizing to the shy and quiet real music lovers that like to sway dreamily on b2.

due to a multitude of pressing faults and issues this release has taken a hell of a long time to get right. its worth the wait as some fine tracks lurk on this slab of vinyl. four powerful tracks on this 12 which has been worth waiting for!
