infamous for his part in glasgow’s dj duo optimo and the production partnership naum gabo (speicher / kompakt extra), j.g. wilkes is an esteemed music producer with a catalogue that has been building since the turn of the century. the ‘jaxon’ ep is j.g. wilkes’ first widely available solo 12” release containing four exquisite cuts exploring the ethereal boundaries of electronica. taken from a limited edition mini album box set entitled ‘german pizza party’ (vf111), j.g. wilkes’ ‘jaxon’ is the only track from that collection aimed anywhere near a dancefloor, in which rich and potent rhythms collide with foreboding frequencies. cologne’s barnt isn’t afraid to let the elegance of space and chaos into his heartfelt rework, solidly cementing the koln-glasgow freundschaft. the ep features two further productions from wilkes, the melancholic, beatless and occasionally ruthless ‘bathing beauty’ in its original form and ‘useful tool’, given a turbulent rework by naum gabo.

if the black monolith tycho magnetic anomaly one from stanley kubricks classic 2001 felt like partying, he would be throwing his rocks in the air to the vibes from barnt, even without having arms or legs. it is probably because is this what they were born for? is not the first time the dj, producer and co-founder of magazine (barnt, not the monolith) orchestrates his profound knowledge of true cosmic sound design in the most convincing manner.

this release is first new mule musiq. catalogue number was jumped up to 147 ... barnt is cologne based producer which is known as a member of magazine (artist&label). we really loved barnt 12 inch and magazine stuff on their label and very happy new barnt 12 inch is released on mule musiq. original on a side is like a dark house remix of goblin (italian progressive rock band). if you like dubby techno sound like echospace or redshape, you will into this track very easily. on b side, one of the best artist at the moment vakula made warm deep house remix. its not necessary bla bla ... about vakula sound. ambient version is lovely bonus track.

after appearing on record for the first time as part of cologne tape (magazine 1), barnt now releases his debut on magazine: the ep what is a number, that a man may know it? is a hypnotic and free-floating haze, heavily influenced by the dance floor. few times before has the psychedelic energy of the 1970s been combined with techno house in such an idiosyncratic way.

on our tenth belters outing, we re borrowing the mighty fine bostro pesopeo from permanent vacation.. we ve been big admirers of his music for many years now and he contributed to our mix series back in the day. these particular tracks were actually ones he gave away on soundcloud and we immediately messaged him saying we d release them. took a while, but here there are. dj support from barnt, midland, erol alkan, etc.

afterlife keeps on going strong! earlier this month they brought us tale of us & vaals monument and that just got a proper remix treatment. no others than stephan bodzin and barnt, two artists, who stand out notably for their unique sound took turns on the original lead track and put their very personal touch on it.

perm is one of leipzig s most busy producers and performers of electronic music. after releases on shtum, mana all nite, dur, kann and nachtdigital in recent years, holger is more than happy to welcome him with a four-tracker that o ers a deep insight into his vision of timeless techno: airy and yet rmly grounded, with a foggy atmosphere that permeates a vast space of sound. it is trippy and hypnotic but also very bodily and highly energetic. with these qualities it ts very nicely with holger 11 (polo) and 12 (barnt) a perfect closer for this mini triplet series, a concept that has become sort of a trademark for the label.

the totality of the many in one: cologne tape, an on and off gathering band from all over the world, did not call their second album welt without reason. the collective incorporates the nucleus of the label magazine and consists of the artists ada, barnt, jens-uwe beyer, jörg burger, john harten, philipp janzen, mario katz, john stanier and axel willner. all members live scattered between berlin, cologne and hamburg. they meet rarely and abruptly, but each of them always has the feeling that something relevant needs to be done. the ensemble’s name represents a city and the musical recordings that are made in it.their -rst release, -render-, marked the start of the label magazine in 2010 and found the way into dj sets by famed artists like dixon with music, which does not necessarily have the dancefloor in mind. subsequently, little, absolutely sublime pieces of cologne tape appeared in the public.

london producer bxentric releases his latest ep sakura fall . this is the third release from his own label nanda records, following the well-received patch valley and chrome eps. prior to launching his own label, bxentric released on eskimo recordings and glasgow underground. in november 2015 patch valley was included in maceo plex s essential mix for radio 1 and was supported by the likes of barnt, job jobse and bicep.
the a-side of bxentric s latest release includes sakura fall which is a dark heater followed by a contrasting downtempo track afon . the b-side offers a melodious matt karmil version (pnn, beats in space, studio barnhus) of sakura fall . bxentric s lead track has already received airplay on b.traits friday night bbc radio 1 show and support from joris voorn, baikal, andre hommen and kollektiv turmstrasse.

invisible, inc now brings the aptly named spacerocks into the fold with the release of a 6- track ep that comes storming in from the outer reaches of a galaxy light years away (or just decades past?) into the earpiece of your unwashed spacesuit. it s hard to pinpoint what genre this actually fits into but if you imagine vapourspace s gravitational arch of 10 as interpreted by vangelis with drum programming by nitzer ebb you d be getting reasonably close. other influences may well include cluster, conrad schnitzler, chris & cosey to name a few, while comparisons can be made to contemporaries like solyst, musiccargo, barnt and secret circuit. spacerocks is a solo offshoot project from higamos hogamos main man steve webster (also fort lauderdale, the black neon, memphis industries, dc recordings). the project sees steve ditch his band and strip things down to his modular, vintage and custom-built synthesizer set up alongside equally rare and vintage analogue drum machines, sequencers and fx units.

the weeping tune was originally released (digitally) in september 2015 on pg tune and premiered in arma17, moscow. barnt: artist, friend, dj and one of the minds behind magazine label, created his own version of the weeping tune to fit into his dj sets, one of the first times being at amnesia, ibiza. these energies naturally formed this release which opens the vinyl catalogue on pg tune: a must have record packed into a pg tune trademark sleeve, created with a thermal camera during tigas first ever live show at berlin festival. limited to 500 copies worldwide, pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

primitive world aka sam willis joins r&s following a string of highly regarded releases on black acre, ecstatic sound and obsession recordings. the legendary belgian label is the perfect home for his dancefloor deconstructions, with the projects experimental, off kilter take on house & techno a natural fit for r&s records boundary-shifting heritage. a former member of revered kompakt duo walls, primitive world draws from willis time as part of influential london duo allez allez, whose dj sets and podcast frequently drew from dance music s punk and industrial fringes. purple caps finds the primitive world sound further maturing, the eps four original tracks confidently club focused yet esoteric enough to demand the full attention of djs and dancers with their off kilter rhythmic sensibility. since its inception in 2012 with the danceteria ep on black acre the project has already won ardent fans among djs such as untold, lowtec, joy orbison and barnt, while an early versionof this eps azimuth found its way into tessela s radio 1 show in 2014.

cologne based jens-uwe beyer is releasing this new ep just weeks after his album the emissary was published on kompakts new sub-label pop ambient. while „the emissary was completed by beyer on his home island of fehmarn in the baltic sea, amor dark pink tencel satin suit is very much a collaborative effort.

as one third of the founding trio of revered cologne imprint magazine, jens-uwe beyer has become an obvious choice for any adept of open-minded electronic music, both through releases such as the one-track-one-hour manifesto red book (magazine 008), several contributions to our pop ambient compilation series or inspired remixes for barnt, dream weapons and others. besides this being the same mastermind as the one behind the ongoing popnoname brand, you wouldn t expect upcoming the emissary to actually be a debut, but it is, for it s the very first time that we re treated to a full-length offering under the artists real name.

cowboy rhythmbox return to phantasy with a new set of recordings, following last year s celebrated debut two-side, we got the box and * rattle*, which gained international dj support from the likes of barnt, carl craig, seth troxler, roman flugel, kim-ann foxman, jackmaster and lena willikens, as well as featuring on erol alkans acclaimed fabriclive 77. fantasma s distinctive three tracks continue from where cowboy rhythmbox left us, a trident forged from the sweat of a thousand lost nights spent dishevelled beneath tarnished mirror balls.

next up on obsession recordings is a new one from label co-founder primitive world (sam willis of walls/ecstatic) following up from his excellent previous release ‘worship / premonition . fast falling hands , has a relentless, almost abrasive groove, offset with a staggered insolent bassline and jagged percussion which see primitive world further developing his off kilter sensibility and sense of texture. on the flip, ‘rush’ twists proceedings up with its humid atmosphere, heavy breathing, and the unique sense of restraint seen demonstrated in his previous work.

dream weapons moonland from his pathways ep (holger 3, 2014) has been a favorite of many. accordingly, remix duties were given into the trustworthy hands of barnt and jens uwe beyer, two of the co-founders of much acclaimed cologne label magazine. an expert in mixing and structuring, barnt carves out the hidden capabilities of the original while jens uwe beyer takes a slightly more humorous but no less feet-moving approach to things. weirdo techno in typical magazine/holger style.

c.p.i. is the brainchild of marc piñol and hugo capablanca. marc is an old acquaintance of our label, both in remixing duties and as a stalwart of our hiverned series.

this is first single cut from the long awaited japanese deep house maestro kuniyuki takahashi s feather world (mule musiq cd 39, release on 21th jan!). kuniyuki invited many amazing gest musicians from bugge wesseltoft, henrik schwarz,fumio itabashi and name a few. this first single cut is club friendly version of the collaboration track with legendary 80 s poetry singer anne clark . her our darkness are our all time favorite. kuniyuki version is Êhomage to his all time favorite early 90 s house track. our very favorite new artist barnt version is his unique dark kraut rock oriented house.

after only a tiny time-out cómeme can t help but remain restless and return even more internationalist than before, since this ep brings together artists from moscow, medellin and cologne, as well as guests from spain. its a collection of tracks that translate comemes ever quintessential voltage into different musical temperaments, drawing the bow from infectious semi-electronic body music and cumbia-inspired rhythm affairs to detached pitch-frenzied sequence-disco and a sphinxy creature with fanfares and whiplashes.
