heutzutage suchen wir nach verlässlichen figuren in der welt. zum glück gibt es peter perrett. auf das britische musik-urgestein war schließlich schon in den späten 70ern verlass. damals bescherte er mit der band the only ones der londoner new wave bewegung den hit -another girl, another planet-, drei alben und ganz viel inspiration. letzteres wussten vor allem die kritiker. und trotzdem gelang der band niemals der totale durchbruch. danach blieb es über ein jahrzehnt ruhig um perrett. seinem drogenmissbrauch folgte das abtauchen und dann die mystifizierung seiner person. nach zwei solo-gehversuchen 1996 und 2001 brach er 2015 zu einer kleinen tour auf. dort performte er seit langem auch wieder neue songs. nun meldet sich der heute 65-jährige mit dem neuen solo-album -how the west was won- zurück. wer the only ones kennt, wird wissen, dass perrett schon früh anleihen aus dem us-rock n roll mit new wave und britischer schnauze einzigartig vermischen konnte. durchflossen von neuem elan hat er gleich einen hit genau dieser couleur mitgebracht: den albumtiteltrack. von the replacements bis hin zu violent femmes, peter perretts musik hat den sound vieler darauffolgenden bands mitgeprägt. 2017 feiert er das comeback, das keiner kommen sah.

jesus was black goes to chile thanks to the new vinyl release by the hand of producer andre butano & felipe. push cat ep, the artists first release for the label, is a refreshing fusion of the organic beats and the avant-garde music. the title track brings on an underground micro house essence with a thick bass rhythm and crazy voices. the ep features two cold remixes from the spanish talent jairo catelo (darkroom dubs, plastic city) with his bubbling synths and house rhythms making a master deep piece. jorge savoretti (viva music, little helpers) make it with hypnotic broken beats and maintains the deep feel that brought him to jesus was black. closing the ep we can find an awesome original track like -rework- with vinyl popping accents and a couple of vocal hooks, a track to make everyone sweat on the dance floor.

over the course of four albums, manchester based trumpeter, composer, arranger and band-leader matthew halsall has carved out a niche for himself on the uk music scene as one of it s brightest talents. his languid, soulful music has won friends from jamie cullum and gilles peterson to jazz fm and mojo as well as an ever-growing international following. his label gondwana records is home to gogo penguin and his own albums have found halsall exploring the modal jazz of john and alice coltrane, paying tribute to the hard bop of the late �50s and early �60s or most recently on fletcher moss park drawing on eastern influences in his most personal statement yet. his latest album when the world was one is something of a companion piece to fletcher moss park (much of the music was written at the same time) but draws more explicitly on halsall�s love of spiritual jazz and eastern music as well as his own studies in meditation and travels in japan. beautifully recorded at hasall�s favourite studio, 80 hertz in manchester, and engineered by brendan williams and george atkins it features the recording debut of halsall�s large ensemble, the gondwana orchestra, which utilises the exotic flavours of harp, koto and bansuri flute and eastern scales to create a global palate for halsall�s life-affirming sounds.

this soundtrack remains so powerful and evocative it could almost stand alone from the classic western it accompanied. just close your eyes and it won�t take long for you to start conjuring up images of grizzled mountain men, intrepid wayfarers, murderous outlaws, boom-town mining camps, lines of covered wagons across the skyline and the great american outdoors that just seems to go on forever.

trip 006 is an album constructed with the songs of a varied collection of artists- fast and furious rhythms at times exceeding 140 bpm, live cuts, tracks with a song structure.

luca lozano, owner of klasse recordings presents this majestic 4-track ep on optimo trax. inspired by the past but sounding the antithesis of retro. in his own words.... the optimo trax ep was born out of a time when i was listening to a lot of old bleep house and rave, early 90s uk stuff. growing up in sheffield i was lucky enough to spend some time in warp records when it was still a record store and being around this music and the people that made it must have somehow embedded itself into my psyche. listening to pirate radio stations like fantasy fm as a teenager helped shape my musical interests as they are today and i guess this ep is somehow a reflection of that education, i wanted to make a collection of music that sounded like it was related to a certain place and time and in effect confirm my own identity within its context.
