steffen & stefan aka hanne & lore met 10 years ago at an event in their hometown herford and started to spend studio time together. soon after, the song “an der waterkant”, released by super flu’s label monaberry, became their breakthrough as a producing duo. it was the kickoff to a journey of countless memorable parties, festivals and after hours that created music released on many different labels along the way. for the 10 year anniversary, they asked 10 amazing friends and colleagues to reinterpret one of the tracks which developed into a wonderful collection of finest dance music by the likes of andhim, tube & berger, schories, glitz, zds, aka aka, lexer, david jach, ole biege and dompe. the tape release includes a download code.

doi records begins with ‘lightnesses’, two long-form recordings from the studio of composer and sound artist, william doyle, formerly known as east india youth. delivering two blissful, near thirty-minute takes across limited edition tape and digital formats, lightnesses is a sound experiment that pays tribute to the original ideas of ‘ambient music’, while nudging our expectations of the form.
emerging accidentally from unauspicious circumstances, lightnesses evolved during the recording of an as-yet unfinished album, when the coda of one track spiralled out into infinity in one long but ever-evolving drone, constantly shifting in form.

sue zukis inaugural recorded document the we are all very anxious tape is in our opinion one of the most innovative audio expeditions that has resonated with us. boldly defying and deconstructing conventional genre tropes we arent being bias by saying that either. this is a genuinely sincere perspective. the key to sue zukis music is her vocals where she misanthropically preaches the records themes of psychological alienation and despair, trapped within an augmented virtual reality. whilst trapped and unable to properly function inside this distorted simulation there are the bewildering sounds of a thousand voices and every conversation unhealthily looping inside yourre mind, through the echo chamber. manifesting into a bleak neurotic obsession and feelings of inadequacy, a desperate plea, blinded and fatigued by the unnerving glare of the computer screen, processing too much information and not knowing if the human interactions youre experiencing are genuine or artificial.

what is music? is it some warped set or a never before heard radio station, or two televisions being broadcast and received simultaneously?

dark entries is honored to release a 4-track ep by red axes, the prolific production duo of dori sadovnik and niv arzi from tel aviv. the pair were raised on a diet of post-punk, new-wave, and italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as i?m a clich?, correspondant, and hivern discs. ?nyx tape? features two new compositions backed with two edits from our catalog. first up is the slick electro anthem ?5 min? another collaboration with french-canadian born singer chlo? raunet aka c.a.r. followed by ?nyx tape? featuring charismatic singer-lyricist gina kikoine aka gina x, who reached out after hearing their remix of her classic single ?no gdm? that was a huge anthem on the tel aviv 80s underground scene. the track is an ecstatic dance to the rhythm in the darkness with gina?s ice cold teutonic spoken word taking creative inspiration from the jewish mourners? prayer ? the kaddish. on the b-side ?destination moon? by solid space from 1982 has been given a dancefloor makeover with moody synths and a haunting guitar line reminiscent of an adrian sherwood dub. closing this ep is a hypnotic edit of ?la machine ? r?ver? by french bedroom synth freaks x-ray pop from 1984 slowed down to a 4/4 groove that takes the original to outer space and back. all songs have been mastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the ep is housed in a custom made jacket that features an original collage by eloise leigh representing nyx, the greek goddess of the night. each copy included a postcard with notes and lyrics.

warehouse find ! mjazz presents rawtrachs is a 17-minute ride of beats, bass, noise and rawness. there is an obvious influence of jungle break beats and a f**k off attitude to formulaic music. the music represents freedom from the formula, freedom from restrictions, and most of all the freedom to connect with the universe via intuitive experiments with sounds. this release is limited to 30 cassettes – the cassettes are blue in a yellow case with a handcrafted cover – each of these covers are different (no two covers are the same). the cassette cases are then packaged up in an extra case which is hand sprayed with the mjazz seal of approval – super limited handcrafted packaging! this music is unapologetic and unadulterated – no watered down for the masses business!

us producer d’marc cantu needs little introduction in the world of acid house and techno. since the late 2000s he’s been serving us quality musical output on labels like crème organization, m>o>s recordings, nation, altered moods or spectral sound, just to name a few. as well as his solo productions, he’s also one half of 2am/fm unit, alongside tadd mullinix (jtc / dabrye).
using a selection of hardware tools and analogue machines, his rugged sound draws on house, techno, acid, electro and hip hop and features crafty studio skills, knowing sampling and lovable raw aesthetics, defining his own sound that became known as jakbeat.
his latest offering for little beat different is, well, rather different in comparison to his usual club oriented output. it’s not as focused on straightforward dancefloor bangers, (although they are present here too), but features more experimental pieces, suitable for home listening purposes. totalling almost 38 minutes in length, this project has more of an album feel to it than a 12”.

this is the third volume of random numbers split series. a cross-section of the italian experimental scene in 5 volumes. each artist is assigned to one side of a c50 tape, in which express his music without compromises. volume 3 is entrusted to somec and von tesla. somec gives us 20 minutes of raw recordings of a mythical machine, a buchla 208, which stops its technology to the 70s. all recorded live with the aid of a computer. in less technical terms, napolis work can be summarized in a handful of eccentric hallucinations – pretentious recreations for quirky programmers – polished fiction. nwh2o is a long journey through interstellar landscapes and claustrophobic extraterrestrial rhythms, transmissions from other times and places. von tesla presents a more romantic vision of his world, divided into a triptych, touch / enter / flesh. dreaming representation of a meeting, where the romantic tones are obfuscated by a drop of lsd, which changes the colors, shapes and volumes. a slow movement toward the transformation of the body, an approach to transhumanism that mingles technology in the body, a genesis of tetzuo (the man of steel / tetzuo shima) of the years 10.

coming hot off his rather expansive cognitive dissonance 2x12inch for love notes, and also an ep for axetrax, tape_hiss herein continues his impressive run. on jacob s ladder, the artist pushes his emotionally wrought sound over cooking percussion and bubbling acid undertones. maspeth ave is quite honestly the nastiest bassline we have heard on a deep house track in some time, sure to cause spontaneous bass face in the listener. life as an echo uses soaring chords and synths to prove its point, and forests of my mind finishes the ep off with a pitch bending chord that pushes the track right along. yet another extremely cohesive, emotionally charged effort from this artist.

rnt welcomes upstart londoner cody currie into the roster with the groove-heavy movin smoke ep. a precociously well-developed production talent, the young producer puts his penchant for deep house sample-scapes on full display here. from the blissful lilt of the title track to the creatively crafted jazz funk of infinity i & ii through to the b-side bangers make love and magic city, this record is a beautiful listen from beginning to end.

there s no compromise, with anesthesia the third release on nurse and latest from japanese maestro tomohiko sagae where he aims to numb your pain, bringing together his own mutant brand of techno and the harsh noise so many of his fellow countrymen are revered for. procaine #1 is pure noise with screams of metal grinding against metal and the relentless chaos of a 21st century working dockyard. procaine #2 where an explosive barrage of abrasive textures is underpinned by a brutal rhythmic intensity. tetracaine almost blows itself to pieces with rumbling bass, scoured heavy mechanics and industrial drones. finally lidocaine distorted and break beaten, is a monster born out of heavy duty avionics. disorientating, fierce, an assault on your senses.

schuttle makes a sublime and sludgy debut with this cassette for paris/peckham label, panatype. all of the tracks are made using astronomical data in some way, a passion for the young newcastle-based producer over the years that he was putting the release together. predominantly a beatless record, and certainly intended to be listed to as a whole, schuttle uses the art of the loop to provide the listener with “an inner peace in outer space”

nyc stalwart and international superstar jacques renault joins brooklyn cohorts for a 4 track ep of superior edit stylings! on the a side cold blooded sources a classic, focusing on a hypnotic and rhythmic pattern for a solid 6 minutes before exploding into exuberant soul, while get down is a loose and greasy funk stomper. on the flip, dream machine is disco sampled perfection, chopped and sliced with evident love. finally, that sound takes us home with its thunderous drums, slap bass, and a tasteful peppering of soulful vocals.

emerging through storm-like waves of distortion, opener ‘alpha’ sets the scene for this beguiling cassette release, with melodies rising out of — and then descending back into — the chaos. ‘3000 years’ takes vocal samples as a starting point, before melting into layer upon layer of delay, after which ‘confounded’ picks up the pace with its heavily distorted beats and the side then closes to the sound of a distant choir burning in acidic ambience in the shape of ‘fruitless clicking’. the nightmarish, malfunctioning machinery vibes continue onto the second side, with the more dance oor-friendly ‘strange conversations’ and ‘the brink’ bookended by the two-part ambient epic ‘pale blue dot’. dark, glitchy, and at times outright uncomfortable — perfectly suited to the cassette format.
