‘zibaldone i of cvx’ is the first in a series of releases from rupert clervaux (sian alice group, recent collaborations with beatrice dillon, spring heel jack, treader records...) which take their name from the title of italian poet giacomo leopardi’s extensive notebooks. they are collections of sketches, vignettes and musical footnotes to rupert’s ongoing and varied endeavours as a musician, listener, reader and writer. this first piece is in five sections (titles listed below), consisting of three thematic poetry recitals, read by clervaux and others over sweltering ambient arrangements, along with two clattering percussive tracks created using a variety of sounds across the fidelity spectrum and finely sourced, layered samples. the result is a meandering and diverse musical journey which threads together succinct meditations on originality by leopardi and silvina ocampo, and salutary warnings from hölderlin and derek walcott! ‘zibaldone i’ is presented as a 12” with a fold-out poster by belgian artist coline cornélis.

jacktone records is pleased to announce our latest release: a vinyl ep titled channel from rising house producer, loren steele the ep from san francisco-based steele is comprised of four original tracks designed for the dancefloor, plus a sprawling psychedelic remix from mathematics/100% silk veteran, roche. not only are the tracks varied and ready for skilled djs to drop at that perfect spot of the night, but, they’re also earworms - hooking you with their infectious grooves and melodies. the clean production and energetic structure of the originals, featuring perfectly-placed pads, stabs and filters washing over propulsive basslines and percussion locks in a warm yet hands-in-the-air vibe. the roche remix of swimma draws out the groove and adds some of that san francisco psychedelic fog. the tracks were recorded live in single takes with little post production processing, giving them a kinetic feel that can’t be reproduced. channel was produced with creative feedback from both cherushii and nackt, whom were lost in the oakland fire. the ep is released in their memory. loren steele is a san francisco-based producer and multi-instrumentalist. as a bassist, dj and a solo live pa artist, he has performed at bay area institutions, haceteria, ok hole, psychic friends, run the length of your wildness, space gallery, public works, and underground sf. he has releases on wolf and lamb music, run the length of your wildness, bob recordings

new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.
