the furnace series is a two-part compilation of music inspired by a special room in the montreal apartment shared by booma collective from 2012-2014. when venues to throw parties became scarce, booma used this room leading to the fire escape in the back of the apartment known as the furnace as a space for small gatherings among close friends. the furnace series is a collection of memories of those intimate parties and impromptu jam sessions. part one features four tracks by booma collective founders and friends, beginning with psyche, a hypnotic, dub-techno inspired composition with oscillating, piercing sounds, evoking whistling flurries. solparas garden in the furnace echoes the hollowed-out concrete architecture of the furnace itself, filling up then emptying its atmosphere with layered drum machines and ghostly voices. cf01 is the result of feedback experimentation carefully arranged into a slow tribal jam. oren ratowsky. producer of booma collectives first vinyl release, rounds off the b side with gorby, an eleven and a half minute exploration of his mastery of analog synthesizers.

here lies the final chapter in the first testament of shocks, and as with the previous three releases, were granted no mercy. a-side tracks trajl and contagious are a full fledged assaults on the psyche, taunting with just enough melody to convince us of musicality, but never really rising from of the swamp theyre stewed in.the b side closer klamata could be seen as a comedown, but after a short while you realize that youve been led only deeper, left in a state of total disarray.

diva is a project which explores the outer regions of technos psyche - combining the trippy sensuality of chris & cosey with the brutalist analogue aesthetic of the likes of robert hood or liasons dangereuses. inspired by the vocal histrionics of strobe lit sirens such as loleatta holloway and jocelyn brown, diva calls on the protean roots of basement club music. lead track >paris stabbing< is a stunning excursion into motor city madness, abstracted disco vocals clash with a broken digi-arpeggio and hooverish bass break down, whilst the flip side >but i ve never< imposes a detuned synth siren over an industrial bass sequence and sp1200 piano stabs to eerie effect. also included is the >paris stabbing (beats)< which pares down the original, adding detuned melodic percussion into a minimalist after hours tool.

with >dazed<, senking continues his exploration of the abysses of sound to create dark and gloomy atmospheres. the slow beats of the two tracks are accompanied by tender, harmonic melodies, but broken by nervous, unsteady tones which seem to be a warning against hidden dangers. the first track >the dance hall walk< also features a vocal sample by micheal cramm - a text which reflects the nervousness and excitement in anticipation of some thrilling things to come. like >tweek<, senkings last ep, >dazed< is not only concerned with the depths of sound, but also with the depths of the human psyche, where there is no escape other than music itself.

room 315 step up to the fledgling kinfolk imprint for three tasty psyche-edit numbers, opener >the eon men< sets the standard with its robust bass pulse driving a slow beat forward on a flurry of digitised synth solo and live guitar action, whilst >night on the shore< begins as a sinister number with lurching bass, but soon opens itself up with its solitary guitar line and floating synth pads which recall the end credits to an 80s thriller, all driven along with minimal 808 percussion. on the flip, edit masters soft rocks provide their own version of >the eon men<, taking the grizzled quality of the original and creating their own minimal wave inspired reworking, with a brittle bassline joined by shady echoes of dub music in its cavernous backdrop and savage low end.

spearheaded by stuart leath, emotional rescue is a label committed to unearthing forgotten gems and giving them the exposure they richly deserve, with all releases officially licensed by the artist and remastered in full. this 12 inch sees two classic tracks by the world music collective suns of arqa take pride of place. incorporating elements of raga and dub, >brujo magic< is a much more straightforward dancefloor number than its description would suggest, with its rolling bassline and vocoder effects fusing irresistibly with its psyche-rock styles. on the b-side, >ananta snake dance< combines traditional indian percussion and harmonium with conventional drumming to create something completely unique. a strong start to what will no doubt be an indispensable label.

with two massive reissues from suns of arqa and jaki whitren under their belts, the fledging label emotional rescue have come up with the goods once again, with this remastered reissue of incredibly rare 70s psyche-funk from bob chance. two versions are included: the original 7 inch version, driven along by a razor-sharp guitar riff and sweetly lamenting lyrics, topped off with weird cosmic synths and galloping rhythm. however, the real gem is the edit entitled >wild its broken< which sharpens the focus of the guitar and adds some serious kick to the drums to create a beefy counterpart to the new age original.

a great track from joe & ubit (aka hugo), remixed by two of the founders of the label (phooka & maurizio cascella) and great guest artist, hubble. the original track is a pure concentrate of techno and filtered tools. voices, percussion and bleeps all mixed with a relentless and powerful bassline. phooka rmx is a swell of synth and bass, which offers a glimpse into the psyche of the listener, a drive of techno beats & a powerful dancefloor-orientated track. hubble gives us a masterpiece, a mental and dark version, in line with his other works and his unique and personal style! maurizio cascella closes the rmx and transform the original track with a heavy groove and loops the song, making it a unique and potent dj tool, a must-have for all djs.

at a dark night in autumn 2009 i decided to move back from berlin to the circle. back around christmas 2009 the quiet wintermonths took over and re-created the studio in the circle where i was able to sitdown and mixdown the tracks i created over the last 21 months in berlin.
for the first time i decided to give this particular album the unique touch by handmaking all the artwork. every single record has been handstamped both sides, the covers manually printed and put together. all 200 pieces are different and have their own singular identity. now, at the end of june 2010 i can present this big collection of expressions. quagmire ltd is a small platform to release this debutalbum. limited to 200 pieces of triplepack 12 inch including 13 mixes.

in spring of 2006, jackpot began to fester in a stockholm apartment. without fresh air or natural light, the group developed its uniquely mutant strain of italo disco mixed with early 80s body music aided only by the sickly blue rays of late night tv. while the jackhammer rhythms of their music were proliferating in stockholm, jackpot dove into the deepest recesses of the electronic dance music psyche for the most primal of all rhythmic impulses - their own unmistakable sound - the sound of western culture falling apart in a blaze of shudders and hiccups. as late night sci fi reruns colored the room, jackpot also picked and chose amongst the psychotic debris of previous eras - the movies of kenneth anger, the music of suicide, velvet underground and bruce haack, the words of william s burroughs. and then they added the junkiest element of all - themselves. after two critically acclaimed records, the third chapter of the jackpot saga is about to be told. its called greased lightning (also features remix work from such talents as in flagranti and rory phillips). you hear that beat? thats them knocking on your door.

>my pet gorilla< is jerome sydenhams interpretation of rolling techno thunder. energy, big kicks, fat bass lines and infectious piano chords. what you are left with, is purehands-in-the-air apotek techno. prime time business! >tonto< is a deep techno track with an immense grooveaccompanied by futuristic efx, rhythms, and chords that forcefully exhibit jerome sydenhams consistency and forward thinking yet again. this deeply satisfying modern remedy represents in appropriate doses the meaning of deep tech syndrome for the psyche and the floor. >museum of modern< is a tough and funky and minimal tech- house track. this edgy experience is filled with surprises. the groove gives way to an epic rise that collapses into an unforgettable breakdown. with no empty spaces jerome sydenham pushes the envelope to pumpout this cross genre gem.

after only two releases on 7even recordings f has already made huge waves on the scene with his unique sculpted approach to dubstep and techno.
now he is back with a cut which offers a glimpse at a different side to his productions, dub techno styled a-side >epilogue< comes correct, displaying what is clearly a long time love and appreciation of this music. clean production and atmospheric textures create the backdrop for a distant beat which drills into the psyche, making for a deep 4/4 journey trawling through the late night in a smoky haze.

word we werent expecting this! this fine platter kicks off with a deft mash up of paris greys dont lead me and neurotic behaviour by psyche (carl craig) and then launches into a beefed up edit of derrick mays kaos. on the b-side is a re-edit of the kevin saunderson remix of we know it by the wee papa girl rappers. we dont know who did this and nor do we care. its a perfect party record for peak time dance floor lunacy. nothing innovative, nothing new but just adding a new twist to old classics and doing it with style. highly recommended

dead soul brothers is that man herve again, along with production partner seba. the eight track double pack opens with a four cuts of dancefloor hysteria - the type you would expect from the man herve. it also includes a killer rerub from phones too. the ep then turns into a blissed out, dreamy electronic psyche album reminiscent of rubber soul era beatles not what youd be expecting at all! its very much in that chemical brothers vein one minute bangin, the other all fluffy and deep. limited to 500 copies and totally needed.
