elektra release of charlotte gainsbourgs third studio album titled irm. the title is derived from m.r.i, which reflects the medical procedure charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in a water skiing accident in 2007. the album is charlottes most personal to date, and is produced by acclaimed grammy nominated artist/multi-instrumentalist beck. what started as a brief recording session between charlotte gainsbourg and beck ended up to be the body of work that is irm. over the course of a year and a half of writing and recording together, becks role grew to encompass all aspects of the creative process. he worked seamlessly with charlotte co writing the lyrics and produced and mixed the recording. like many of the greatest italo-disco records, tony espositos 1983 double a-side je-na/pagaia is ridiculously rare. put it this way: if you fancy nabbing yourself an original copy, it will make a serious dent in your wallet. this welcome reissue presents both tracks in their original 12inch glory, mixed with clubs in mind by mariano boncaldo of klein & m.b.o fame. its the a-side thats arguably the pick of the pair, featuring as it does a balearic-friendly blend of dense, bongo-laden rhythms, tribal chants and delay heavy guitars. theres a bit more of a hazy disco bounce to pagaia, which sounds a little like a long lost tullio de piscopo record, all jazz-fusion scat singing, sunny horns and shuffling rhythms.

a lot of water has passed under the bridge since the release of etienne jaumet’s night music, dating from october 2009. his hypnotizing music and enchanting live performances put him directly on the map. it’s just him who is in control of his ship. he moves without complexes from his saxophone to his drum machine (his beloved tr 808) while turning knobs modulating synths, and sending his voice through an echo.la visite, etienne’s brand new album, more luminous and jazzy than its predecessor, has been composed and produced within a two month period in the versatile studio. it became a piece of introspection, mentally as well as physically. in the title track, for which flop wrote the text, we hear etienne travelling through the inside of a body, fantastic voyage style.it is always surprising to see a record taking shape. etienne would arrive at the studio without any precise idea in head, approaching his work rather intuitively. he works standing up, which brings a very different energy than being seated behind a computer polishing up every detail. he is in total mastery of his set-up, ready to capture that short-lived moment of true creation. the only use a computer has for him, is to record his experiments - afterwards being mixed by jerome caron (blackjoy).in between night music and la visite, etienne has not been lazy. not only has he done numerous collaborations (amongst others with joakim, richard pinhas, francois & the atlas mountain) and picked up djing, he has also recorded a new zombie zombie album (rituels d’un nouveau monde) with cosmic neman, as well as the soundtrack loubia hamra. and he worked with artist felicie d estienne d orves on the installation satori. at this very moment, etienne and his saxophone are still part of the tour of james holden.

neueheimat is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabel manege with his debut release *quartier3*. neueheimat was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell. after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wished to start his own, new project and truly realise his creativity. conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls. influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. neueheimat and subsequently *quartier3 ep* are characterised by dennis clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression. large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), *quartier3* is a significant milestone in dennis production history.
