founded in 2018 by dj and producer deni-shain the man behind acclaimed compilations space echo and pop makossa, atangana records is the logical follow-up to more than 20 years of travels, constantly on the lookout for new artists and music around the world. as a tropicalist globetrotter in this new project deni-shain, in partnership with thomas vicente, co-owner of the french restaurant le verre vole, aims to dig, reproduce & transmit cross-cultural music, usually unreachable and/or less known by the public. the goal is simple: share the love of music and to rediscover the pleasure of voicings, percussions and sadly forgotten harmonies, whether you find yourself in a jam packed club or the intimacy of your home. atangana’s first releases will be looking at the caribbeans islands, especially into haiti with the reissue highly expected by various diggers of the acclaimed single divizion by singer fedia laguerre. originally released in 1981, this first 12inch comes with a remix by voilaaa and an instrumental cut exclusively based on the additional work by the french afro-collective.

usually, the purpose of a piece like this is to tell other writers, music mag editors, distribution people and record shop clerks why they should like a certain release and buy, hype, review it. often these encomiums are not really honest and sometimes you even feel like attending an attempt to sell a flat tire. as for i:cubes new longplayer m megamix things are – of course! – very different. being its fifth solo album, an introduction of a man like nicolas chaix or even his biography (another popular brick of sales sheets) seems rather unsuitable. if you dont know what you should know, just use your internet search engine with any of these terms: chateau flight, versatile records, french touch, disco cubizm or parisian prodigy.

streetwise was one of the seminal dance labels of the eighties, responsible, with its subsidiary imprint partytime, for several important and influential examples of the dance genre. several of its releases were indicative of the directions that both dance and r&b would take over the next few years. the signing of vocal group new edition and their resulting hit candy girl is generally acknowledged as the beginning of the boy band phenomenon, and the labels last hit, music is the answer, was also a key element in the rise of house music. the label lasted for only a few years before falling victim to its own success and the related success of its owners, especially revered producer and remixer, arthur baker. here is a selection of streetwises greatest 12inch mixes, gathered from the archives during streetwise reign over the dance market presented on this vinyl.

ajello have released music on many top imprints including an lp for mantra vibes and 12inch releases for relish, moderne and radius. they also did a cover version of lobotomy by n.e.o.n. for the highly acclaimed confuzed disco project released by mantra vibes which celebrated italo disco classics. remix duties on this release are performed by the very excellent reverso 68 aka pete herbert and phil mison. these two guys are great music aficionados as well as top djs and their balearic disco influenced sound has been one of the best things to come out of the uk dance scene over the last couple of years. plays by llorca, rob mello, silver city, ilija rudman, electric press, fab mammarella, harri, makossa & megablast, black affair, baby g

support comes from tiga, jedi knight tom middleton, dj naughty, warren fellow, makossa & megablast. the track >disconnected< is a groovy house workout that is typical of mr van moll. it starts with an excellent rhythm track that hooks you in straight away and then drops a deep, rich bass reminiscent of some of the classic house records from eindhoven produced in the mid 90s. this is quickly followed up with a breathy, seductive female vocal that leads you into the synth parts that propel you throughout the rest of the track until the 303 drops at the end. on the flip the track is reworked into a much darker affair with the 303 playing a central role from the beginning. >disco necked it< builds slowly with dubby synths gradually joining the 303 and throbbing bass before a filtered string part straight outta detroit creeps in creating a late night thriller thats sure to have sweaty bodies grooving!
