to conclude the unsung and defeated series we turned our attention to the distopic wave group wavering hands. the duo comes from bern and zurich, and this is their first vinyl release. the use of real drums, guitars and vocals is an unusual field for us, nevertheless, as it is clear now, we have shown no fear in going wherever our interest take us. and this time is pure new wave, kraut rock inspired music. a perfect ending for this series of unsung and defeated local heroes.

adballons (made-up word from �advertising balloon�) was a duo formed in tokyo and active only between 1986-88. equipped with some gear (casio cz-5000, teisco s-110f, roland mc-202, roland tr-909, korg kpr-77) and influenced by the music of d.a.f, kosmonautentraum, tommi stumpff, propaganda, the flowerpot men, cassandra complex, this heat, the pop group, spk and laibach, they released just one 7� in 1987 and played some shows in local clubs before disappear and become part of the obscure and inscrutable japanese underground scene. limited to 270 copies on 10� vinyl including the four original studio. everything remastered from the original reel-to-reel tape. each copy comes with a obi strip, an insert with some photos/lyrics/credits and a numbered card.

the rawest, diy gospel ever resurrected. the west side of chicago was just an annex of the deep rural south for gene autry cash and his flock of recent old dominion transplants looking to cut their fiery, unadorned sounds indelibly to plastic. his jade label absorbed those god-fearing artists: family bands with wailing kids and barely amateur groups sourced from local parishes, infused with reverberations of country and western and deep soul. glinting authenticity shines from every track like a diamond in the unpolished rough�each group completely convinced that salvation comes through song.

william anthony bois was born in stockholm, sweden, in 1991. he expressed an early interest in music, especially electronic music. whilst william demonstrated a natural tallent for piano composition from an early age, in 2003 he began channeling his creativity into house music after a friend introduced him to fruity loops. early street dancing lessons introduced him to funk which has been a source of inspiration ever since the age of nine. he continued the dancing with the dance group funky 4 brothers and has performed around europe and sweden. william also studied music production and sound engineering at sixth form college. this background has given him a firm foundation from which to express his music through a variety of rhythms and tone that give his music an individual flavour.

n our extremely talented artist pool we have the luxury of being able to work with local icelandic talent and for our 6th instalment in the lagaffe series we managed cook up a long awaited collaboration with a close friend and producer intr0beatz. intr0beatz has been known in the local music scene for quite some time and became one of the most iconic hip hop producers in iceland with the group forgotten lores. after the scene evolved and took changes intr0beatz reinvented himself as a house music producer. with intr0beatz you never go wrong. a long time hip-hop producer went housey on us, and he got the groove. house and old school hip-hop have a lot in common sampling and chopping old disco/soul tracks is the foundation of both. so this came naturally for him. the four-tracker includes the tracks dumpin (a1), mystery ride (a2), tapas (b1) and desco (b2).

hoga nord rekords is finally releasing druk 11000! this 7inch is a collaboration between silverbullit, fontan and the bhutanese group aa yang - ensemble. the project took shape during a mythical trip to bhutan where the swedish composer and multi instrumentalist johan �the count� westman who�s living in the country, hooked the altitude sick scandinavian musicians up with aa yang - ensemble. the local monks then blessed the musicians under mystical ceremonial procedures. with protection from the dragon of thunder, druk 11000 has produced some of the most powerful, loving and life embracing music yet to have been released on hoga nord rekords! the songs springs toward the top of gangkhar puensum, bhutans highest mountain, building a mighty storm, noticeable all the way to the scandinavian woodlands!

san francisco in the late 1960. the hotbed of psychedelic and rock culture. the dead, joplin, jefferson airplane and a host of others all gaining mainstream acceptance for their acid tinged work. but the city and the surrounding bay area had so much more going for them. a liberal political outlook and a large african american and latino population, meant that musical and cultural reference points were wider and more easily assimilated there than (almost) anywhere else in the united states. two of the biggest groups to emerge from this scene were santana and sly and the family stone, with their melting pots of sound that took in jazz, soul, rock and latin influence. for a while they were two of the biggest acts in the united states and scores of local bands tried to follow in their footsteps. they were hard acts to follow and very few got to the stage of making a 45, never mind a whole lp. one of the best to do just that were leon�s creation, whose debut lp �this is the beginning� acid jazz are reissuing here. a native of san francisco leon patillo led the group, whose multi racial line-up echoed that of his heroes on the local scene. self contained and gigging locally they made their debut album at the tiny studio 10 who also custom pressed the album in extremely limited numbers the music is a perfect blend of acid soul, mixed with hippie sentiments that will get you dancing on the uptempo numbers such as the title track, �back roads� � with its glorious harmonies and the soaring �power�. more thoughtful numbers such as �until you were gone� or �love� will touch your soul. so impressed was carlos santana that he eventually asked leon to join his band.

first release of label la casa tropical, two south african nuggets. especially smile is a sought after tune by satari. the flip might even be better. tip! synth heavy south african disco boogie from the mid 80s. first issued near the end of the synth-pop era that gave boom to the local record industry, this release takes the b-sides off the mysterious groups first 2 singles recorded at johannesburgs legendary satbel and ovation studio. combining live instruments and an embrace of the electronic gear that was already standard in all studios city wide, the newly formed supergroup was able to create a unique sound at a time the word disco was starting to be associated with a different emerging movement.

o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

kiki gyan�s star didn�t burn long, but it burned bright. drafted into the afro funk super group, osibisa, at 15, he was millionaire by 18 and regarded as one of the best keyboardists in the world by 21. �life was good, man,� he told journalist kweku sakyi-addo. �too good!�. in 1983 he dived head first into the new york party scene. he took a lot of drugs, spent a lot of time in clubs and got together a team of crack local musicians to record feelin� alright, his third and final solo album. all the kiki gyan trademark elements are present and correct. the album is unique a blend of highlife music with electronic funk and disco. �rosemary� follows the formula most closely and was a hit across nigeria and ghana. but on �give it to me�, �love to love you� and the title track, you�ll hear a slicker, boogie-influenced sound that has made feelin� alright one of his most sought-after albums. kiki gyan would never hit such heights again. his addictions eventually took hold and he died aged 47, destitute and alone. feelin� alright remains one of the brightest stars in his extraordinary constellation.

after releasing their own debut record in 2014 the hamburg based group sky walking formed by peter kersten, christian naujoks and richard von der schulenburg now celebrates the launch of their self-titled label. by bringing together an international line-up of artists mostly associated with the new and experimental music scenes in cities like hamburg, berlin and new york sky walking not only establishes a link between different locations and their specific (local) scenes � with the golden pudel club in hamburg somehow functioning as a bermuda triangle � but also between different generations of artists from these scenes.

funk was the syncopated groove that emerged in the mid-sixties through hits from james brown and dyke and the blazers. it was a natural development out of rhythm and blues. thousands of local bands tried to emulate brown�s success, and in the process created a plethora of rare and sought after 45s and album cuts that have been mined by djs and producers to fill floors or provide breakbeats. whilst the 20 tracks on this compilation would cost you thousands of pounds to own on their original issue, that isn�t really the point. instead you get to listen to magnificent grooves such as mickey & the soul generations explosive �iron leg�, andrew brown�s blues tinged �you made me suffer� or the message music of 24 carat black.

the second release of no more pop features an obscure sideproject of the famous dutch minimal synth group �ensemble pittoresque�. originally released on a promo compilation for local bands in 1984 called �de wassenaarse slag�, the single �a distant dance� is a truly unique journey into dutch synth wave.

with this compilation aarhus-label help recordings presents a selection of electronic music, giving it the self-evident title *relevant material*. on the first face, an uncredited weird intro is followed by two tracks from two debutants. the lofi energy of brooklyn-based love letters is followed by a new-and-classical house-sound from sports, the younger brother of the two label-heads. on the flipside older brother central, who recently appeared on the the neighbour-label nord records, shows his calmer and more melodic side. the local group lester, who did the first tape on the label, deliver a playful jam, a groovy exploration of machine dance music. the final grooves of the compilation reveal another uncredited sportive track.

the city of bologna (bolo for locals) has been always a crucial junction for the underground music scene in italy.
over the last few years a small group of bad boys has started to fill the streets with a distinctive and modern interpretion of house music.

milan, italy, 1983. in the midst of the 80s economic boom, which gave an injection of optimism after the heavily political 70s, a group of young local musicians meet every night in a basement to rehearse and record a peculiar breed of italian disco music. originated from the ashes of various other projects, and rooted in the broader jazz-funk tradition, the group creates music which is equally inspired by contemporary fusion as well as by the first wave of the italo-disco sound. over approximately 3 years the band has recorded and played live, until the dismantling of the project towards the mid 80 s. fast forward 35 years and the genuinely mediterranean flavor of qvark s demo recordings are still enjoyable, both for the actual resurgence of the italian disco tradition and for the groovy quirkiness of a project which has been too long forgotten. after an intense work of audio restoration of such tapes, heavily affected by time, early sounds is pleased to present a compilation which is an important find to define the sound of late 70 s and early 80 s italian club sound.-

indianapolis band led by organist bobby watley (ex-lonnie smith group) and driven by his funky jack mcduff-influenced playing. discovered in march 1971, funk inc had sent bob porter a demo tape which languished in a pile of other until the producer finally got around to working his way through the whole batch. the band s tape grabbed him as soon as he heard the first notes and the rest, as they say, is history. a quintet, funk inc s constituent members were leader bobby watley on organ, eugene barr on tenor saxophone, steve weakley on guitar, jimmy munford on drums and cecil hunt on congas. watley, the leader, worked originally as a drummer, with both winston walls and lonnie smith. he switched to organ in 1969 and was heavily influenced by jack mcduff. barr played his first professional gig with little milton and then went on to lead his own band prior to joining funk inc. munford worked with artists of the calibre of etta james, jerry butler and james brown. hunt had been with the coasters as well as playing with local california bands. weakley was one of the (then) new breed of guitarists whose debt owed as much to jimi hendrix as kenny burrell.

official re-issue of bermudian disco record! 1000 copies initial pressing. big tip! in 1981, bermudian band paradise recorded sizzlin hot, a flawless album of original material in the disco, boogie and aor style. producer, writer and pianist grant williams formed several bands before becoming the fourth member of paradise, alongside bassist wincy woolridge, drummer ronnie lopes and singer june ventzos whose voice commands the album. for five years, the group regularly performed in hotels before hitting the local z.b.m. studios to record their sole album. sizzlin hot is inspired by the sound of earth, wind & fire. the album delivers several blistering tracks that could have been huge club anthems if the record had been promoted outside of bermuda. since bermuda is a fairly remote island, its no wonder that paradise remains virtually unknown to this day. it is all the more reason why this album stands-out and has universal appeal though it was only ever intended as a local thing as grant williams says.

thomas leer is an innovative electronic musician from port glasgow, scotland. he began singing for a local band at age 13, and was writing his own music by 18. by 1977, he had moved to london, where he fronted pressure, a clash­-esque punk group with fellow experimental scottish musician robert rental. after hearing kraftwerk, leer became interested in synthesizers � not long after, he was exploring the experimental techniques of eno, zappa, beefheart, faust, and can. in 1978, thomas released his first single, private plane / international , on his own oblique records that we reissued in 2015. 1979 is a 14-song collection spread across two pieces of vinyl clocking in at 70 minutes. leer says, 1979 was a great year for making music.

after the very polish and the very soviet cut-outs, zambon continues his endless trip around eastern europe with another excursion. now it s time to follow him and dive deep into dance music of former yugoslavia. the very first volume of the brand new the very yugo cut-outs exposes a little known scene of editors based around the cult club 20/44 in belgrade, serbia. a duo of djs and producers called kompleks is responsible for three edits here, while the label boss zambon supplies the last one. tracks range from poppy new wave of jakarta group from serbia, through psychedelic rock of seid memic aka vajta from bosnia, yugo boogie of kim band from serbia/macedonia and sleazy synthpop of videosex group from slovenia. the unique vibe and amazing skills of yugoslavian musicians from the rich and unfortunately still little known scene are guaranteed to move both you and your local dancefloor. hvala!

capsule labs music groups debut release is a 4 track house ep from label boss gil t (om, drop music, deeper shades). taking off with the lush sounds of flight 107, a smooth synth journey, nicely descends to get down low�. the afro cuban house beat sets a nice groove for the live jazzy vibraphone stabs of this classy track. the b side is a real bonus. the private driver really cruises and lastly, not so low is a chunky finisher remix of the title track, all done in house. locally farmed variety of true analog precision by gil tamazyan. each release has its own plastic drop card with a string being held in place with a limited pressing metal foil sticker individually numbered 1-500 on the back side of the jacket. heavyweight virgin vinyl.

musical collisions in the atlantic! sofrito kicks off the new island series with a a celebration of the vital dancefloor sounds of cape verde - a mixture of local funana rhythms, batuque percussion and psychedelic disco synths. originally released in the early 80s, dionisio maios anthemic corpim sabe is stretched into a 12 inch mix by the alma negra collective - bringing the thumping bassline to the fore and tweaking the piano-led groove into a slice of cosmic island perfection. on the flip the dynamic hide & smile duo splice an early track from trailblazing group bulimundo into a percussive workout - a sure fire winner that bridges the gap between traditional styles and the sounds of kuduro and coupe decal�e. os kings complete the ep with an ode to struggling youth, anchored by sweet guitars and a slick bassline

in the 70s radio stations were a powerful force across the whole of the us, and anyone with a transistor radio had access all kinds of music. live music was another matter altogether, and unless you found yourself in a major city your nights out were limited to what the local talent had to offer. this was especially so with soul and funk acts, as mainstream rock and pop was where the money was. so for small time oklahoma soul bands such as husband and wife charles and barbara burtons groups messengers inc - and later burton inc - times were tough. however, like many purveyors of soul, tough times were no match for those with determination, persistence and a story to tell. many artists scraped enough money together to make a 45 or two on their own label, but the burtons took this to another level � they got themselves organised and released their own full length lps.
