following last years acclaimed curse of soft rocks album, were invited to revisit said masterpiece from an alternative entry — a robust compilation of remixes. each track is wildly re-contextualized leaving us with a beautifully obtuse yet complimentary rendering. personnel employed vary in style and technique drastically, but such is the ethos of soft rocks, and furthermore the esp institute. at the end of the day, we implore you to shut up and listen. on this 12inch (the second of 3 surrounding the revenge of soft rocks remix album) esp mainstays cos/mes deliver a deep and sensual yet sinister take on little lights, and side b reveals an upbeat dubbed out version of wicker man by zurichs own lexx (running back, permanent vacation, leng) good lord this is quite a piece of wax!

above machine is a record label run by steve lee (the project club). seconds is the alter ego of markus enochson and luciano leiva. together with singer linus lutthi they deliver >another day< which is a breezy, balearic affair with the solemn moodiness of nick drake. it is reminiscent of late end-of-summer days when time seems to stand still, but in the most bittersweet of ways. remixes are provided by lexx - who once again adds that subtle disco blend whilst drinking an estrella at the beach bar. the seahawks dive deep and provide an ambient masterpiece, which lures you deeper into their crazy world of delays, reverb and a studer a80 running backwards in a shoreditch broom cupboard.

messalina records return with a fantastic new release. with the edit duties undertaken by zurichs balearic disco maestro lexx, you know youre in for a treat and this release doesnt disappoint in any way, serving up an awesome collection of balearic obscurities chipped and sliced to perfection. side a kicks off with the brilliant eminent times, an excellent mash-up of prince vs. the who that has been in-demand since featuring on lexx’s wonderful sundance mix from 2006. next up is so different here, a super cool extended edit of rachel sweets lost classic featuring that so hot loop made famous by the beatnuts. on the flip side we get go, a beautifully deep rework of a lost track by spargo, and finally the afrodisco groove kumbayero, a super funky dj friendly edit of a rare gem from 1976, previously only available on an impossible-to-find 7 inch

the story of this record includes one day in m(dm)ay, anarchic after-hours, laptops, gurner-djs and the need of pressing something that sounded nice, uplifting, somehow kompakt, pop-trance and just so convincing on a 12-inch. databoy78 thought the same and here we go with a seductive and hypnotizing drama. flip the script for a splendid remix by zurichs super dj lexx (zukunft, sometimes known as kawabata and switzerlands version of dj premier back in the day) who houses tings up and giving away a dope swiss beatz excursion on top of it all. lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

lets have fun! - thats the mantra of big zis and the crew of nation music. the swiss black music label has been broadening its musical spectrum over the past years. just like the artist big zis, whose music could most likely be labeled electro pop alternative punk rap, they dont care about common conventions.while rap becomes more and more pimped out, house loopier and minimal narrow-minded, big zis hooks up with a top-class troupe to get it her own way.for her most recent album und jetz … (and now …) she worked with marton di katz and valentino tomasi (both members of kalabreses famous rumpelorchester), who laid the musical foundations for most of the songs. for the impulsive electro on the track suure räge (acid rain) however, big zis collaborated with the techno producer michal ho (tuningspork) at the studio. suure räge got remixed by several well-known producers: robag wruhme (freude am tanzen) and canson (gs zürich) are to be found on volume 1 and the soul brothers lexx (aka kawabata / drumpoet) and kalabrese (stattmusik) successfully combat boredom on volume 2. the sound scapes of the remixes couldnt be any more diverse and cover a broad variety of styles. and be sure: volume 3 - work in progress - will delight you as well!

legalize lambada step up for their 4th outing with four delectable afro disco edits from sputnik. ‘superlove see s sputnik channel a south-african take on early garage house before melting feeling fine , the reggae tinged, afro boogie gem. on the flip side, groove me unearths some feel good cameroonian disco gold complete with killer guitar solo, whilst rick closes out the e.p. dropping the tempo for a synth soul, slow jam. with early support from hunee, lexx and the likes, leg004 is shaping up to be one of the summers standouts.

after sending out these tracks last summer and getting great reactions from djs and dancers alike, hell yeah is pleased to finally officially release virtuoso musician verdo s little blue ep, complete with a remix from lauer. fully remastered for vinyl, the likes of lexx, chris coco, soft rocks, leo mas and many more have all be playing these tunes with great results.

the term cosmic classic has been banded around increasingly in the last decade, with its modern disco retake, thankfully, soon running out of steam. however, in michael chapmans lescudjack we see the genius of daniele baldelli in finding obscure records that do not fit the traditional dance floor and making them work.

ethimms second ep when in dark delivers the groups signature tension music with moods oscillating between suicidal heartbreak and conciliatory optimism. in the opening track why (a cover of the rhythm and sound classic), producer elisabeth thimm sets the stage for guest singer veronique to mourn love s loss, while brian gimmel s improvised piano licks hold strong agains the songs relentless bassline. the follow-up track late features lexx s dreamy lyrics gracing a subtle dance foor tune for spaced-out souls. the b side opens with ethimms love for dub. next is a freaked-out meditation on what has been and will be, while the fnal track done slowly creeps towards its peak, refecting on dark days where light may have not been much in sight, but going forward sees optimism, increased resolution, and drive.

quality limited reissue of this classic lp from californian singer/songwriter, ned doheny. though beloved of the recent balearic scene with fans including harvey, lexx, moonboots et al, ned was under-appreciated during his own era with this superlative lp only ever securing a vinyl release in japan, making it a seriously hard to get hold of album but definitely worth the effort. following on from his iconic hard candy lp, 1979 s prone is again bursting with californian sun-soaked gems showcasing doheny s signature laidback funky musical style and relaxed unpolished vocals. from quality soulful groovers such as think like a lover and if you only knew through to the sophisticated disco sounds of sweet friction and funky love , there s not a filler in sight but the icing on this tasty west coast cake has got to be dj s favourite - the great jazz-funk floor-filler to prove my love . an essential album - don t miss!

welcome reisssue for monster soul-funk lp >disconnection<, one of the most obscure and sought-after releases from top 70s disco label, prelude. ridiculously expensive and hard-to-find in the original, this album is stuffed full with killer tracks spanning warm, soulful disco, high-stepping groove and boogie-heavy funk all written and produced by robert holmes. standouts include the jazzy free-style >dead on the case<, later reworked for the mysterious french skyline project, cool jazz-funk groover >bay city<, recently edited by none other than balearic maestro lexx, and the floor-friendly chunky funk workout >cash money<. however no track is a filler on this superb album which fully deserves its holy grail status with collectors. essential!

begin clocks a fourth release with another vinyl only limited edition. the next image ep is a dreamy, warm and breezy affair made with the optimism of spring and beyond in mind. the title track has live instrumentation and a recurring guitar motif based around a midtempo groove wrapped in a bed of strings. on the flip the tempo slows for the blissed, brasilian morning sound of day happens. the guitars and feedback lay the foundations for vocals and hypnotic synth/xylophone elements. in early 2012 the previous release sold out. the three track lay ep got support from aficanados moonboots and jason boardman. balearicmike features it on his stunning mix for japanese peeps higherfrequency and james murphy of lcd soundsystem has recently opened his boiler room mix with elate,which is also getting spins and support from zurichs tastemaker lexx . the vibe is growing for begins releases so grab em while you can.

incarnations strike again with a fine batch of reworks of tracks off of the mesmerising >with all due respect< album. for starters, lexx turns love ballad >let love find you< into a haunting balearic jan hammered beauty, keeping bing ji lings vocals and adding some nyabinghi drumming and spectral synths. space ranger then take the uplifting >hindi ko alam< to jacking disco territory while sprinkling their cosmic dust all over it, and kare frisvold & rune lindbaek manage to transform the contemplative >sunset on punta paloma< into a psychedelic dancefloor affair.
