lost in time continues on it�s path exploring timeless underground house music with number 8 in the series. the �last step� ep focuses on the extraordinary production talents of tuccillo, the italian musician widely regarded for his unblock studio. this record marks a deviation in direction for tuccillo, who is recently returning to his roots, making stripped down minimal dubs aimed directly at the dance floor. lostime008 includes four new cuts which can best be defined as �romanian� style in essence. in fact raresh from a:rpia:r and livio & roby from premiesku are early supporters. the title track kicks things off with rolling percussion with more than a hint of latino attitude. dubby stabs and detroit style chords soon join the party and intricate changes in the drum programming keep subtly lifting the track throughout. �changed� opts for a totally different tact, opening with lush, dreamy pads which evolve alongside rolling snare patterns and bass grooves to reveal a heavily harmonised spoken word vocal. on the flip side, �drum engine� opens with feint, delayed vocal stabs which are joined by celestial, swirling pads, before being abruptly stripped away to reveal a menacing growling bass finally, �titled�, takes thing in a more minimal direction with airy pads and acid bleeps panning around the mix, showing off tuccillo s immense production talent

the e.p kicks off with she can dance, a slow burning acid number that has elements of deep, grooving house from the detroit school. in fact, the second cut low control bares the influence of detroit too, with its murky, dubbed-out chords ala luke hess moving into a punchy bassline with minimal but functional drum patterns. proceedings get a bit more bouncy on the smoking hat, a quirky acid romp on the less daft side of ceephax, and the perfect soundtrack to accompany a feature-length documentary about.... a smoking hat. finishing up the e.p is fudge fingas remix of low control, the only man qualified to make an already deep as fuck track even deeper. theres been some on-point criticisms about a lot recent deep stuff getting lost in noodly jazz territory, but we are in no danger of that nonsense with fudge fingas at the controls: accomplished a musician he may be, hes never been one to lose the way, and this mix proves his deft and subtle remix talents. dabj done done it again, and hopefully this is the first in a long line of productions from vernon.

abusing our soft side for dub edgar 9000 gave us these compelling tracks.>play me minus three (patience vs. epiphany mix)< û what starts like a nicely arranged minimal tune bubbles and billows after a short pause up to a big ride on the acid-dub-ghost-train. at the latest when the decently deployed and gated french horn pad sets in on the second half you are completely lost. not for quick peep û but beware: danger of addiction of endless playing is definitely given.meanwhile the title >hook & bait< of the b-side rather reads like the basic principle of fishing. it really sounds like the classic principle of ambient à well almost, since in this case this ambient track is drifting along itself, underlined with a straight driving and floating rhythm fed by an earthly bassline.petri heil! (as we say in krauts-country)

tony lionni is the new signing here at versatile. born in liverpool, his love for the music was passed on to him by his father, a record collector and former dj, who introduced him to crate-digging at the early age of eight. his roots stem from black music. hip-hop will become his musical bases before he discovers the acid-house explosion at the mythical hacienda in manchester. he naturally starts mixing in the late 80s/early 90s, playing a mixture of rare groove, deep-jazz, deep house, etc. he then turns to production and is noticed by gilb-rs fine-tuned ears who signs him on the spot. releases on labels like wavetec and mule musiq are planned further in the year. listening to papaia one cant help to think that 2008 will be the year that progressive house will make its comeback. it has been a long time since we had heard such a simple and effective kick and bass intro. the hi-hat then come in along with a small acid sound. the filter opens before the rhythm accelerates. in the middle of the track, the main melody gets dropped in, arms raise and the listener gets lost in the darkness of the night. on the b side, shuffle explores the deeper roots of lionni. the title is surely a reference to the beat, which is predominant in this track. once again the hi-hats are up infront mixed to percussive sounds, which undulate to the rhythm of the bass, making this track an essential tool, ready-to-use and be mixed into almost anything
