madame e. is a musical setting of georges bataille�s �madame edwarda�, a short novel that interlaces themes of eroticism, religiosity and death, and was written under the pseudonym pierre angelique in 1941, during the occupation of paris. composer mirco magnani wrote eleven electronic pieces and presented them to actor/singer ernesto tomasini. they turned them into songs by adding vocal melodies and together they produced a libretto based on bataille�s french text. the result of their dynamic interpretation is a hypnotically spellbinding performance where the audience is transported through worlds � ancient and new � and where tomasini�s haunting falsetto conveys the tormented emotions in bataille�s work and becomes the instrument that articulates the writer�s famously obscure themes.

hauschka is a composer, songwriter and experimental musician who has brought an exciting new perspective to the prepared piano. the prepared piano � a technique for getting new sounds from the acoustic keyboard by resting pieces of paper or drumsticks on the strings of the instrument - has been used for centuries, but hauschka was unaware of the tradition when he began exploring ways to get new sounds out of his bechstein grand upright.

eshone (donnie valdez) is a 31 year-old graphic designer, music producer and dubstep dj from albuquerque, new mexico now living in poland. eshone has performed in twenty states and several countries, including: canada, denmark, poland, the netherlands, and slovenia. donnie s earliest musical memories were his electric guitar playing days and listening to heavy-metal bands from twenty-five years ago. learning this instrument and listening to heavy-metal expanded donnie s musical horizons to signal processing and sound manipulation. armed with technical knowledge, donnie shifted his focus to music production in 2004, specifically, drum and bass. eshone makes tunes quickly because of his innovative production techniques and instant application of his craft. his frenetic production pace is closely related to his high-energy live three deck sets. donnie learned how to mix in 2003 and had plans on becoming a turntablist. currently, donnie prefers to mix and blend his productions, which focus on heavy basslines and anthemic grooves while keeping a dark vibe and gritty texture. donnie s love of nature and music gave him incentive to create his record label, elk beats. the elk is very similar to donnie s music, internet presence, and online persona: peaceful, present, and powerful. donnie enjoys spontaneous activities, such as: fly fishing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. his other passion is music, and eshone s productions are custom-made for large rooms with low-lights, loud sound systems, and an intense emotional experience.

early electronics by a.k.klosowski made available again through felix kubin s galgarin records label! long before digital sampling was affordable for everyone, a.k.klosowski invented his kassetteninstrument, a custom-made music apparatus consisting of eight sony-walkmen combined with a mute/demute mechanism. the outputs of the instrument could be controlled both by hand and by an automatic trigger module. in addition, a drum computer and some effect machines were fed into the circuit. this technique allowed for very intuitive and simultaneous control over the analogue tape sources.

studio bruno is the joint project of johannes beck as well as his friend musicians and producers. the concept of studio bruno is based on a one week stay at studio bruno in an old farmhouse in steigerwald, franconia, a lovely nature park in north bavaria, where each musician invited brings a machine or an instrument of his choice. the focus of that week is the common producing and live improvising.for the first record steffen bennemann (nachtdigital) and sevensol (kann) were invited. sevensol brought his tr-707, his monotron delay and steffen bennemann came with his field recorder. the result of this one-week session is a deep house track with a distorted synth line and a krautrock-slash-funky jazz track!

upon the first listen, the work of fernando unfolds directly on your brain and leaves a long lasting feeling of drama. fernando pulichino is one those lucky guys who can pick up any instrument and write songs without breaking a sweat. he first caught my attention with a remake of the bauhaus classic kick in the eye released on redux in 2008. he then backed up this great start with releases and remixes for labels like international feel, under the shade, internasjonal and nang. he also very busy touring as part of the 2020 soundsystem band and he is also in silver city with julian sanza.
we decided to put together a long player to highlight the talents of our man in buenos aires. the construction of *float* reveals an astonishing wealth of musical ideas, brazen touches of new wave and icy modern disco sounds are evident throughout. low slung basses are also a theme that runs right through *float* whether it is the opening song *a place* which has a monster electronic bottom end or *from out there* which sits firmly on the punk funk dinner table, bass lines are clearly important to fernando.

in their own words, like a radio-controlled mechanical, electro-mechanical and multifunctional musical instrument, berliner ring build up relentless and relentlessly different grooves in a characteristically non-direct way. as if playing around without focus they layer their tracks and slowly position them into form. the tracks featured here were originally released on cd on the art yard label. melodies are fragmented, often even sparse, the groove never stops, but does so with intervals and while changing focus. berliner ring references similar bands in the krautrock and post-rock genre, but it s subtlety, the originality of their self-built instruments and their songs that shift from downright groovy to more atmospheric explorations of ambience and texture guarantee them a unique voice and perspective. essential stuff.

it is a cold dark winter � snow is lying everywhere. simon12345 and the lazer twins are heading up north into a little wooden house in the northern parts of denmark. they will live there for the next weeks and build up a temporary studio in this secluded cottage. simon has got a handful of sketches with him. musical states of mind and conceptual games he developed over the last years. basically the idea is to develop something truly unique and powerful � although none of them knows how that will sound exactly or what will happen in particular during this time. it is not even clear who plays which instrument, who will do what�nothing is set. the only thing clear is that they have things to say, things that have been burning in them for so long now. tell me. how can (mostly) instrumental music suggest a way of life? how can you criticize without pointing at something particular? how can music transport you into place of quietness and self reflection?

k skip skipson has built himself quite a fan base with his funky releases as (knarf) skipson on quintessentials and other labels. the young man from berlin is deeply infuenced by hip hop � both in terms of production techniques (he uses an mpc as his main instrument) as well as aesthetically. for maria colors he comes up with four massive house tracks full of hip hop and soul samples which make you wonder, can it get any deeper than this?! funky as hell and extremely soulful � thats what makes these tracks from skipson so special � and at the same time theyre a wonderful way to celebrate the labels first birthday.

support by richie hawtin, m.a.n.d.y., andreas henneberg, kombinat100 and many more. featuring deep atmospheres and altogether slightly more electronic rhythms, the second part of the catchpenny & cosmos series rounds this double release off by an even greater variety of sound. just like its name implies, the dark tower hotel is a wondrous and mysterious place. upon intricate double bass chords and trippy synthesizer riffs, female singing from times long gone mixes elegantly into the hypnotic arrangement like a melodic leitmotif. in his remix, mollono.bass lives up to the last four letters of his name and delivers a rolling groove. the jaeger gains experience with acid, at least during the second part of this title which distinguishes itself by a minimal character and enigmatic wind instrument sounds. last but not least there is morgiana , a laid-back song that does not aim the dance floor. its catchy gypsy vibe, created by lots of classical instruments, reflects the remarkable compositional talent of be svendsen in a very entertaining way.

nice price deal !!! rippertons wonderful perspectiv imprint look to kick off their 2011 vinyl releases with the bribe em with candy ep. a debut on the label for german duo motec and daniel gelbe under their production pseudonym, eve white. some exquisite house tracks on this ep. lead track sugarbabe with its velvety tones and chocolate coated piano chords is the most delicious of starters. backed brilliantly by its timeless dub. its the cymbals that initially stand out on feel better. the open hats and ride shimmer alongside the twinkling keys. its unique vocal is underlain by an acid line thats contrast to the other elements, is the real key its success. rounding out the ep is anything goes. with pianos being the instrument of choice for eve white, its no surprise to find that the ivory rain-drops and warm throb of the rhodes are key here. this really is the finest of sunset and sunrise territory. bring on the summer!
