smaul recordings should not be suggestive of being fed by productions of acid pauli, only. however, creative times need being used and martin gretschmann - aka console - member of the notwist - alias acid pauli has collected lots of material whilst the scarce time left last year. on smaul 07 he follows his self-weaved red thread of the year. acid pauli confides more & more in a certain house rhythm paired with these melancholic layered sound-synthesis, already well known by him. astonishing things emerge out of acid paulis musical waves, sometimes even scientially croon quite a bit. nymbiotic (a) comes relaxed but holds a great melody up in the sleeve - seasonly peppered. symbiotic (b) rests bit on minimal house, but acid pauli never relied on that genre. thus, this track does not remain as it seems after three minutes. glitches and sounds break it up to evolve a new symbiosis. symbiotic becomes more timeless in spite of siren-climax peaks and an obsessive string chorus fading in the end.

tokyos kez yms follow up to his maiden yore ep, city soul, opts for a more pronounced party vibe, as evidenced by the plenitude of voices that repeatedly pop up during butterflys four deep house tracks. the material sounds of japanese producer kazuki yamaguchi puts a clubby spirit to this ep. propelled by a beautifully warm and soulful bass pulse, inner city funk grooves mightily for five blissful minutes, its rhythm bolstered by the crisp snap of the snare, the funky wah wah of an electric guitar, and the occasional interjection of a synthesizer melody. bridge to bridge quickly charts its own percolating course with the addition of a stepping disco house pulse and a male voices sleepy, off handed musings. bringing the lights down for a romantic make-out session, the sexy low tide chills the pace slightly so that spent dancers can catch their breath and replenish themselves before the next go-round. of the four tracks, the title cut grooves most powerfully in merging a rambunctious broken beat drum attack with an equally driving bass line and manic electric guitar soloing. play these jams loud.

this is a long awaited release on theomatic from a russian-born (now czech-based) house-quartet d-pulse. this definitely should have happened before as all d-pulse members and theomatic’s commander andrei zakharov (an-2) are fellow-townsmen and have known each over many years. d-pulse are known for their expressive live performances (guitar, bass and keys), everything you hear they play live and their unique vibe can shake any audience, be it hip moscow cuties or shy hick-town chicks. the band’s hectic schedule has put this ep on hold for several months, but at last guys managed to organize themselves and lay final touches to the production. the a-side is a mellow, spaced-out disco jam called ‘prekrasna’ - the russian for ‘beautiful’, especially when referred to ladies. the dancefloor-aimed ‘moments’ on the flip side starts off with hypnotic, dubbed-out guitar and atmospheric synths laid over fat house beat. it gradually leads to the breakdown followed by guitar driven blast-off and takes you to the orbital heights from wherever you are.

seit mehr als 12 jahren gehören die aus stuttgart stammenden gebrüder alexander und sebastian schwarz zu den international angesehensten protagonisten eines innovativen house-verständnisses einfach dazu. mit ihrer vorliebe für deepen und dennoch fordernden house zwischen tradition und moderne können die beiden auf eine schier endlose liste an koproduktionen und remixes zurückblicken, bei denen zusammenarbeiten mit den masters at work, underworld, missy elliott, madonna und depeche mode nur die prominente spitze des eisbergs darstellen. nach dem beitrag zu den >cocoon morphs tokyo<-eps aus dem vergangenen jahr (liquid cherries) setzen tiefschwarz diesmal auf perkussive reduktion mit schneidenden handclaps und starken vocal-samples (fall in). eine wahre perle liefern die beiden aber vor allem mit keep on ab, das zunächst mit delay-vocals und überraschenden noise-effekten dem bass die regie überlässt, um dann aber doch mit orgel und xylophon-parts sehr organische und jazzige elemente in den vordergrund zu rücken. so setzen tiefschwarz mit deeper und klaustrophobischer darkness einen ersten maßstab für modernen house-sound im jahr 2010

detroit, 1993. the burden brothers, known for their octave one project and 430west record label, start a new sub label called direct beat. it was created to release the techno electro sounds of inner city detroit. in 1995 the label was in full effect and released music produced by friends such as tommy hamilton, keith tucker, mad mike banks, will web and them self.
now 15 years later we know that direct beat was one of the big influences on how electro and techno is today. together with underground resistance, axis, m-plant in detroit and some like minded people in europe and artists such as drexciya, aphex twin, autechre and dopplereffekt it changed the way people looked at techno... it broke away from the dominant 4/4 kick and brought back the funk and emotion that disappeared once house and techno became popular and mainstream music in the early 90s.
we are happy to bring back direct beat records by making some of its classics available for a new generation. this is a part of techno music history we may not forget about! especially in these days that people consume more and more of the format tracks. this shows that emotion, passion and energy creates much more then just a dj tool... it creates tracks that become part of peoples life! and not for just one or two months in your i-pod... but for the rest of your life in your record collection! timeless classic collection... must have!
