asc is a perfect fit for silent season, favouring as he does greyscale melodic content and a cerebral approach to mutant techno. cerulean is a fine opening gambit on this 12inch, all crooked kick patterns and micro bleeps calling out into nothing, while dimension 1010 maintains the austere approach with a slow swell of melancholic ambience over a meditative rhythm. enchanted is no less restrained, but there s a subtle shard of light in the murmuring pad that lingers in the background. that s well and truly dealt with on the bleak beatdown molniya, which pings bleakest techno into a black hole of sound, which is of course a wonderful thing to behold.

copenhagens music for dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by jan schulte. according to all maps and witness accounts, germany does not officially have any tropical forests. this is of no concern to schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. most of the tracks picked by schulte were released on small labels in the late 80 s. the musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in germany. at that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging -world music boom- already snowballing into the mainstream. but these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. schulte himself points to his -general fascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. somehow i think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks,- he explains....

check track 3 .... field records looks to l estasi dell oro (christopher ernst, aka penalune) for a new three-track ep for sound systems that once again takes us down the rabbit hole. following on from his previous i look upon nature while i live in a steel city album in 2015, this is another masterfully drawn out and engaging affair. -either to please or to educate- is the intended purpose of this ep release, utilizing guitar, tabla, and other electronic and acoustic instruments. the incessant movement of the metronomic tremors felt underneath our plains lay the rhythm. the threadbare dialogue we use to communicate frays slightly further. these spirals are given an explicit voice through leader annabelle kuwe s dispassioned public address to the remaining world at the great meeting of 2166, as recounted by sadie lapierre on closer achieve ignition .

coalmine records is excited to announce the limited-edition vinyl release of the artifacts’ highly regarded 2012 single, “easter,” which marked the group’s first official release in more than 15 years.
initially released as a digital single on april 3, 2012 (the tuesday before easter sunday), the track later appeared on coalmine’s decennary compilation, unearthed, which dropped may 13, 2014.
however you heard it—one thing was very clear: despite their time apart, artifacts emcees tame one and el da sensei sounded as fresh as ever on “easter.” the new jersey rappers’ venomous flows are boosted by the neck-breaking production of acclaimed north carolina producer khrysis. making the cipher complete is the turntable work of dj dutchmaster, who provides the scratch hook and outro cuts.
with this release, “easter” makes its grand return in the physical form in a limited-edition white vinyl pressing that also includes the instrumental track on the flip. it also takes things back to the old-school by way of a front jacket hole that exposes the label (the heads know what’s up).
