following the successful reception of klodio s debut ep, the tokyo-based producer spent the year playing shows in japan with various upcoming artists like fulbert and label co-founder alixkun, and taking part in disruptive events such as pow wow school of music. when klodio decided it was time to start recording his second ep, he took a slightly different direction, going from techno-influenced detroit house to house-influenced detroit techno. -shinagawa sunrise- is a fast-paced retro-futuristic jazz jam which climaxes on a fantastic sax solo by the young and talented ilia skibinsky. daiba goes a step further in this techno journey, flowing from glowing, light, syncopated chords to a dark and aggressive atmosphere, and back again to the relaxing chords. more polished, singular, deep, and yet aggressive than -toktroit-, -rainbow bridge ep- brings another stone in the asia-infused universe that the french producer is bringing to the world of electronic music.

‘consistency’, the second lp from the berlin-based techno artist. the 11 track release follows 2014’s ‘en route’ and will be released on heiko laux’s label kanzleramt, a label with which kajioka has worked with closely for over a decade. consistency lp bears all the marks of a kajioka release: a collection of deep, driving, groove-laden and synth-focused cuts. heady grooves which leave little question why ray kajioka is held in such high regard among techno veterans, called upon regularly for remix honours by the the likes of heiko laux, joel mull, pan-pot, elbee bad, alexander kowalski and marc romboy, to name but a few. kajioka’s reputation for faultless production remains consistent on this, his sophomore lp. the full, extended physical release of consistency contains 3 vinyl disks: 2 x 12” lp disks plus a free, bonus 12”.

harleighblu x starkiller is a formidable link-up between british soul/electronic singer harleighblu and la duo starkiller (the production outfit of c.e. garcia & alfredo e. fratti, members of adrian younges venice dawn). a science fiction film in sonic form, the amorine lp tells a tragic future love story in which high drama collides with a cool, clean, sci-fi atmosphere via hip hop sensibilities that draw on musical references from psychedelic funk to dj shadow to portishead.

london-based producer, visual artist and nts radio host kit grill has announced a new 5-track ep, titled westway. the ep will be available digitally along with a limited run of 200 vinyl copies designed by alex sullivan, with cover photography by grill and an accompanying video by london director laurie lynch. westway draws on grill’s personal experiences of living in a cityscape and echoes the industrial, fast-paced and repetitive rhythm of his home city, london. the ep was recorded over the course of several months from early 2015 to february of this year, the propulsive beats and driving, shimmering synthwork across tracks like ‘distance’ and ‘street runner’ inspired by and echoing the brutalist beauty of the capital, culminating in the euphoric, widescreen string flourishes of closing track ‘stairway’.

lord of the isles, a.k.a. neil mcdonald, has spent the better part of a decade steadily producing and releasing beautiful music. the esp institute has always wholeheartedly believed in neil’s work ethic and his journey as an artist who constantly refines his vision, and when we inevitably approached in hopes of working together, we were enamoured by the sheer breadth and depth of work he had in progress’. there are two types of artists. one internalises their process, endlessly perfecting their work while finding the endpoint a massive hurdle, in turn they produce immaculate yet very little art. the other is continuously inspired, so full of ideas they can barely work fast enough to articulate them all. the art becomes by-product of their larger trajectory and not just a collection of endpoints. lord of the isles seems to be both, always in an evolving state of process where the work is constantly shed to make way for the new layer growing beneath, yet he holds his cards closely, cherry picking when and with whom he releases his art into the world. neil is simply prolific. he shared with us a vast catalog of unheard beauty, which over a long span of time was collaboratively shaped into his debut album “in waves”. the title speaks to neil’s process both intimately and from afar, it speaks to the emotional ebb and flow of the music itself, and ultimately it speaks to the listener. ahead of the album’s release, we are proud to share with you the single ‘weh-in’, a mesmerizing arpeggio melody that opens and closes, purrs and barks, and plays nicely with its percussive accompaniment over more than 10 minutes. this lengthy single version of the track is joined by a dark and stormy, exclusive non-album cut entitled ‘pik’, as well as a big room rave remix by esp institute resident ian blevins, which take us to a slightly more frantic place while retaining the euphoric essence of the original.

oshana steps up to deliver the first blow for partisan, a fresh, new imprint. warm melodic tones, bending synths, razor-sharp percussion and noticable grit bind together this dancefloor focused ep. with its fast paced and innovative sounds its a strong step forward for this unique producer and a great start for partisan.
