for the first release of 2018 we welcome harry wolfman to the outplay family! having followed his work for the last couple of years we re very happy to have him deliver this varied 4-tracker, which very well might be some of his best work to date. the a side starts off with hitch . a warm and dusty groover driven by rhodes, a rubbery bassline and a thudding kick. a lovely string piece in the middle of the track slowly builds up to the break for it to return to the head nodding groove soon after. the added percussion gives it a nice lively feel as well. pigs in blankets sets the pace a little slower, but the funk goes on. the track incorporates 80s style samples with some excellent synth and chord work. perfect for a warm up session. starting on the b side harry takes it up a notch with nemoto , which will be a definite stomper for the dance floor. it takes you on a 9 minute journey of rolling bumpy basslines, screaming distortion leads and hypnotising synth work. finally, to ease things off, sts-136 (final call) comes in at a slow 88 bpm pace as a perfect closure to the ep. dreamy pads, piano licks and a calming marimba melody combined with a beat which feels like a warm blanket will make you wander off for a moment

dead man s chest aka alex eveson makes his debut appearance on myor massiv sublabel diamond life alongside head honcho coco bryce. dancehalls seem to be the common denominator on this 12”. and where mr eveson prefers to drop a tab of acid, coco opts for a helping of mandy to work his way through the night. both sides find the respective producers operating at the 160 bpm mark, wading through a hazy mist of sounds reminiscent of clandestine warehouse raves. but whereas dmc utilizes a fairly straightforward, 93 style hardcore drum loop in combination with acidic undertones and atmospherics which clearly reveal his love for the “golden era” of mo wax trip hop, señor bryce s jam is a far more hectic sounding affair, layering a chopped and re-edited apache on top of an already-frantic, percussion- laden break beat, adding even more to the rushy feeling induced by the nervous pads and rave stabs. quality, yet slightly off-kilter hardcore junglist exercises.

after playing lovestar to death we reached out to see if sebastien was still feeling in an emotional mood. we discovered quickly that, in fact, this is where his creative heart lives and breathes. the two tracks featured here were conjured up (in a daydream we like to believe) in time to play out at all the summer closing events in the usa and on be tvs coverage at the bpm festival and our south american tour. already loved. already track id d and already to create more magical moments. enjoy!

mandala trax aka shingo suwa and dj mori is releasing a first ep on merkur schallplatten. shingo has established the label in 2008. dj mori is working as resident dj at suicide circus berlin. they often performed at many clubs in the city. their first collaboration includes two different versions of rave influenced techno remixes by anna bolena. anna is music producer, promoter and video maker, she is an underground activist since the 80 s. she runs the label idroscalo dischi since 1999 and since 2005 the video production company idroscalo digitale. they both are working as resident for buttonÆs party at ://about blank. a1, their very first track, is called 11pm. the main solid synth line features deep kick drums surrounded by dubby industrial effects in the background. on a2 we find a heavy bottom groove, surrounded by echoes in a dark atmosphere. hand claps and white noises are driving any techno floor. the b side includes two different version by anna bolena. she produced some 90Æs rave structures affected by her experimental senses.

matt karmil, pional, marc piñol and dandara shed a new light on slowciety s previous record: guru. guru remixes opens with a mesmerising and brooding interpretation of the self-titled by matt karmil, recalling the raw textures of the uk-producer s lp. pional s remix comes next with a powerful treatment of elephant, once again proving the dancefloor expertise of the madrid-based producer. he delivers the shamanic experience from the original track and pushes it forward with soaring percussive elements & beats layered on a 90 s-esque emotive pad. marc piñol opens the b-side with a groovy remix of guru, described by the man himself as a 122 bpm after party tool. a heady bassline loop, as well as dry & twisted sounds beefed up by karmil s work on the mastering, lead the remix to a hypnotic ride, pure and efficient. last but not least, swiss producer dandara brings his tribal touch to the sensual -utopia-. a slow melodic dancefloor piece which smoothly closes this third record.

optimo music don’t generally do limited edition releases but when the golden filter did these extra mixes of “end of times”, the a1 track off their recent ep we thought they were too good to remain in the digital domain so have pressed up a small run of 12” singles aimed specifically at djs. the original single version is a future synth classic. these new dub versions take it to the dancefloor and have been tried and tested around the world over the last few months. they are considerably extended, dubbed out and add extra dynamics & ecstatic synth power with hints of the original vocal. there is a slo mo version at 103 bpm and a faster version at 118bpm which means the track should work any time from warm up to peak set. there is also a drone-apella version included too.

the newest 12inch on voodoo down records marks the debut appearance of longtime friend of the label jordan lieb aka black light smoke. jordan played an instrumental part in the nyc label scissor & thread, and has spent recent years honing his live set in front of crowds ranging from bpm, robot heart, and fabric. the depression sleeping ep is a collection of tracks from his archives from the past decade that have been updated and remixed. the theme of the record is his struggle with sleep and insomnia. per the artist: releasing these songs form my past reflects my effort to embrace myself, the good and the bad, and to channel my personal battles into a creative process.

reissued from the spanish version of this awesome cuban records with a unique picture cover. probably one of the best 70’s areito releases, for sure ahead of his times. the entire record minus two tracks of 10 total are all upbeat with afro-latin breaks, dope choral vocal arrangements and chunky bass and conga lines, but don’t sleep, the lower bpm songs are great mellow gems. gilles peterson says: “if a cuban record had come out on sleeping bag records in 1982, i think it would ve sounded a bit like this. it’s an eccentric middle ground between latin-styled pop and disco.”

this june session victim returned to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album. listen to your heart is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lp see you when you get there. here we present the third of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew.
we kick things off with almost midnight, another uplifting summer jam loaded with trademark session victim energy and positive vibrations. next up we have castle for sale which drops the bpm’s for a dub influenced, spaced out jam session sounding like king tubby and nightmares on wax getting stuck in the proverbial lift with a large bong for company.
flipping over we have a head over heels, which goes heavy on the lush orchestral strings and a brilliant bouncing moog bassline bringing a deft touch. finally we’re treated to thermal explorer, which incorporates some wonderful larry heard-esque keyboards for a perfect wind-down track to close the release.

this time is ricardo rodrigues aka industrialyzer who lands on the court of damon wild with three tracks perfectly aliened with the label s philosophy, synewave has been at the service of real techno for over 20 years. it all begins with analogue planet a 130 bpm journey which rouses the dance floor whilst stimulating the mind, giving both of them no mercy. the second track, -multiple walls-, carries the flavour of an old school small march with a hammondesque synth which revolves around the groove from beginning to end. the atmosphere becomes dark and acid in the third and final track on this release. orbit x is an emotional roller coaster which develops in different phases, everyone of which takes the listener by surprise. with this release industrialyzer reminds us that, after all, new york, detroit, chicago, berlin, amsterdam or lisbon dont really matter, quality techno is a global affair and synewave consistently confirms this with releases above all schemes, movements and trends. monumental.

being selfish, is one of the good things about running your own label. if you please, you can just try and re-release that certain record that you always wanted for yourself, but never could get your hand on it. now, you can just edit it the way you always wanted it to be (oh, those fade-outsà) and press it up. this is one of these occasions. when kalk (the collaborative project of philippe heinen and joffrey becker) was released on julien briffaz label brif in 1999, i just had started to dj out at a club in darmstadt (the late cafÚ kesselhaus) and the restrained, yet punchy house tracks symbolized what i liked about deep house back then: a mellow alternative to the bpm hunt and rigid attitude in mainstream techno, while not losing itself in chin-stroking wisdom or pesky noodling. it seemed that there werent too many around with the same desire. otherwise akasha wouldnt have remained a diamond in disguise and not what morgan geist so aptly named an unclassic. by his definition, that is: an old by and large forgotten record that would have deserved to be hit. if you take discogs as an indicator, more and more people start to think so though. here is your second chance to obtain a copy of the spirit of kalk. mildly edited and restored in the best human-possible way. mind you, its old house music from days of yore. dj gj

drumrim’s straightforward four to the floor kick is accompanied by a hard hitting bass and a repetitive leadsound that evolves throughout the track. the overdriven hihats and rides combine well with the panicky sound. diffuse goes along with the flow set by the a1 track, yet has a bit more percussive feel to it due to the toms added.
hatchet on the b-side provides an aggressive kick and percussive elements. the sound evolves around one overdriven synth sound that drains you in to the track. perfect for fast transitions while mixing. copylust ends the ep a bit slower bpm wise, but emits the same energy as the previous tracks. straight-forward, hypnotising, hard hitting contemporary techno.

lady chann & rapha team up for ‘hard drive’… the uk’s ‘number one dancehall queen’ returns with a storming carnival heater called ‘hard drive’. ‘back it up, hard drive’ is the command from the lady on this minimal dancehall rhythm, which packs in solid sub-bass, a bark, and some well-placed/spaced-out percussion. the producer is the bern, switzerland born and raised raphaël ‘rapha’ gasser, who became hooked on dancehall after hearing a mixtape by berlin-based supersonic sound and has gone on to collaborate with the genre mainstays like i-octane, sheba, kiprich and more. on the flip b-side is the remix by newark-based jersey club original r3ll, upping the bpm and sure to keep forward thinking dance-floors bubbling. kick n clap is the record label founded by django django’s dave maclean.

french artist franck kartell returns with alaska, his fourth full length release on uk imprint bass agenda recordings. critically acclaimed for his masterful blend of low bpm heavy beats and signature deep atmospheres kartell moves from the fascination with the work of film maker chris marker’s that powered his last two albums to the drama of alaska. like its geographical namesake the album spans ethereal beauty, drama, light and darkness and similarly provides a very individual landscape.

arctor appeared on our radar a year or so ago and stands out with his high-bpm, melodic techno blend. time and time again he has been surprising us as a producer and dj with amazingly crafted music. so when we decided to do a vinyl only sublabel, we just couldn’t think of anyone else to do the debut release. we hope you will love the three tracks he made and the acid-infused remix by gynoid audio’s advanced human.
