after spending the majority of 2009 in hollywood, chanes briefly returned home to finish up songs for what would become his 2010 release, an experimentation in instrumentation. the 15-track tape, presented by house shoes, exposed us all to the nomadic 21-year-old producer from canton, michigan. chanes would spend the next two years working between home and brooklyn, before relocating to arizona, where he would release his follow up project, renegade hands, (insect records 2013). presented again by shoes, hands solidified chanes as one of the most promising young producers in the country.
fast-forward to 2016, and at 27, this self-titled debut takes us circa 2007 - 2009 with the soul-chopping salad days of his mother s basement, through the alternative sampling williamsburg, brooklyn sessions of 2010. if the melancholy desert psychedelia of his isolated four years in perpetual southwestern summer gives us a glimpse into his growing electronic influences, then the angst of his winter homecomings are hiding under the aggressive parka weather beats that first caught the attention of detroit’s underground.

recently appearing on the mighty crosstown rebels with a remix of shaun j. wright & alinka ‘face the truth’, sought after duo audiojack are back serving up a solid two-track release in the form of ‘turya’. turya is built for serious heads down sessions fusing subtle acid pads with soaring synths and sonorous spoken words. the hypnotic quality of the teacher’s words beguiles and entrances the dance floor, allowing people to lose themselves in them and its evolving groove. ‘event horizon’ is a different beast altogether, with a heavy drum and bass vibe, a four-four format, and a classic -amen- break beat style. in 2015 audiojack launched their sunday social free party at veto club in their home of ibiza, which after a strong season will continue this year. their first essential mix recently dropped on radio 1 and a string of highly successful releases and remixes on labels such as hot creations, tsuba, 20/20 vision and their own gruuv has solidified their place in the dance music elite. it’s safe to say that 2016 is proving to be a big year for the talented duo.

the second of this year’s smd singles on their own delicacies label is features another two original tracks, leading with the hypnotic, late night techno loping of “remember in reverse”, drenched in glistening synths. the second track, “soft attack” takes a much more direct approach, with a brash battering of crash cymbals on every 4th bar marking time as a sinuous synth melody curls around the rhythmatic trunk. “soft attack (drum version)” pares it down even further, excising the melody for a minimal dj tool. also included here is a remix of ‘remember in reverse” from 90s mid west techno legend, dj hyperactive, who we’re super excited to have on this release. he extensive 11 minute rework transforms the track, sprinkling it with subtle doses of acid. after a short hiatus following their modular-only, desert recorded last album “whorl”, during which smd s james ford found himself on production duties for everyone and their dog, smd are back with bunch of techno cuts on their own delicacies label. over a couple of months in jas shaw s newly re-located synth-dense studio in leafy kent, which saw smd once again experiment with live jams as the basis for their production, they’ve pulled together a selection of eight tracks for release as a series of four singles over the coming months. smd fans will note that the earlier naming convention of delicacies has fallen by the wayside – for the simple reason that we’ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

after some remix projects and a lot of work on their new live set, the next original mix from saitezwei will be released as digital and vinyl release. also for this project, the two guys cooperatedwith the label tach & nacht from hamburg. the song is a mixture of deep and tech house elements with driving drum structures, saite zwei typical harmonies and a lot of variety. despite complex melodies and heavy chords, the entire ep has become very clubby and danceable this time. among other songs, the release will contain a remix of -morja-. the b side comes with an original track by morja called -reborn-. less melody, more groove could be the topic in comparison to his former releases. coming with a tight set of percussion and a phat forward driving bassline, reborn surprises with some contrary played organ sounds adding even more thrust and energy to the tune. definitely a track to remember. the side gets completed by an interpretation of saite zweis -nighting ale-.
