mr. statik with previous contributions from joe claussell, move d, mr. ties, reagenz, discrete circuit and their very own away soundsystem, the berlin label away achieved a great deal of attention since its first release back in 2015. after having played at their infamous party series before, the greek all-rounder mr. statik now also debuts as a producer on away. as emphasized with releases on such labels as bpitch control, amam, or rotary cocktail, the resident of athens club six d.o.g.s draws inspiration from pop culture like science-fiction movies as well as comic books, also reflected in his rogue cherub ep. info rogue cherub ep its an open secret that mr. statik has a strong penchant for working with vocalists, and the title track is no different. starting off with an ingenious medley assembled through samples, rhythmic elements, and a funk-infused bass-line, rogue cherub ep highlights the greeks unordinary approach on house music. despite the partly broken, partly playful vibe its dave ajus distinctive voice holding everything together in a serene fashion. no less than the acknowledged master matthew herbert himself scales the hybrid down, attaching just the right disco-house touches to create yet another dance floor gem. morning star on the flipside tops off aways fifth catalogue number by a well-crafted techno-meets-dub workout unfolding mr. statiks versatile core strengths as a producer.

following up the inaugural release by glos, escapism 002 is a mesmerizing two- tracker by one of leipzig s most talented producers, talski. he is part of the institut fuer zukunft crew, co-runs dur records and also performs rare live sets together with his friend perm as pandt. soothsayer shows why analogue production skills are still highly appreciated in contemporary dance music. by limiting himself to only a few machines, talski manages to create addictive and reduced tracks that focus only on the essentials. this comes especially apparent on soothsayer i which although stripped back, builds tension, has atmosphere and is driving. soothsayer ii is more evolved. straight enough to keep people on the dance floor, yet with a fragile and melancholic beauty to it, that sticks with you long after leaving the club.

escapism, the berlin party series, steps over the threshold into label territory after putting on quality techno nights in the german capital for more than two and a half years. kicking off the label is the polish born and berlin-based glos, who is well known for his work on ressort imprint. on prayers three original tracks showcase his love for ambient music, as well as intelligent techno and sound design. belgian newcomer border one (wolfskuil, stockholm ltd) is in charge of remix duties, taking the slow churning groove of collapse and transforming it into dance floor focused material.

all good things take time, aussteiger said once. and indeed, it took a serious amount of time to get everything set for what soon will be known as dub disco s first release! we’ve been digging deep inside his tune collection. not only to make sure that the first three-tracker is a belter, but that it also showcases exactly the kind of musical approach we wanted as our personal imprint: to hell with a boring and homogeneous release that only represents one genre! we were looking for something that stands for itself, something that tells a story, something that is representative for what the artist stands for in a musical sense. and after a tedious quest, we carefully curated something we think is dope! kicking off the number one is a track disclosing the joint forces of berlin-based collective of musicians los wawis and aussteiger s capabilities as a remixer. here appears a psychedelic version of the track, which is carried by gentle guitars, a dubby bassline as well as the funky-trippy synthesizers that usher a tropical vibe onto the dancefloors. the starter on the flip is entitled “heimat” and comes around as a melancholic interpretation of aussteiger’s time in exile, a period that enabled him to craft his very own style. there is not much to say about this bomb that the ear doesn t catch instantly: this one is an honest earworm, with it s irresistibly arranged horns and a pervasive and driving bassline. to finish everything off, we went for a nasty banger, that carefully blends different aspects of the raving side of dance music. the electrifying broken beat and it’s haunting bassline are blended with an intense influence of acid.

new emmanuel top label. lost in berlin is a mechanical angry monster with multiple arms that swings around for destruction. it’s unstoppable for words, you have to accept the fact that you have been hit by a concrete wall. what i love in records is the menace inside it that builds up. the impossible energy that drags you in to this tunnel of a white dimension with grey electric colors. bipolaire: it all starts with a kick, not a simple kick but a et kick and before you know it you are struck by lightning. the subs are playing with you, simple but again with atomic temperature. the acid sound that hits you is never going to surrender his inferior temper. capture: only that words remind me of the spirit capture and it’s not easy make an equivalent of the original that is not even made with the inspiration of the mod wheel. it’s not just a wicked intro that can take you to different roads. you can decide what way you will take but be careful with what comes next.
