following the great reception of hiverned 01 here is the second installment of hiverns edit series. in the a side, tbs >invitation to love<, a highly anticipated track that is finally released after becoming a fixture in john talabots sets. based on twin peaks osts >laura palmers theme<, the track rephrases angelo badalamentis clas- sic from an acid house perspective. adding analog rhythms and a crispy bassli- ne to the ethereal chords of the original composition, this refix manages to keep the dream-like atmospheres of the song while transforming it into dancefloor- ready groove. the idea is simple, the results are magic. on the flip, marc pinol repeats appearance on the series revamping some lost australian minimal-wave track. in the vein of his previous >wheels< edit, the track conjures gloomy atmospheres and sparse rhythms with gritty synth melodies. on the top of it, the barcelonian producer adds dialogues from spanish cult art-house film >arrebato< (hence the title) multiplying the obscure ambience of the tune. once again, the release comes in a limited edition 10 inch wrapped in a handmade silk-screened sleeve. no digital and no-repress.

as emotional rescue continues to deliver the goods for those who love discofied rarities from the 70s and 80s, here comes this ep from kevin harrison, originally released in 1982 and worth a pretty penny second hand. it is a wistful, proggy kind of groove that finds harrisons voice lost in an alien phaser while the live band feel gels with synthesiser parts for a fluid kind of cosmic goodness. there is simply no arguing with the plush melodic wonderment of >views of the rhine<, while >fly< is the jam the party djs will reach for, not least for its slinky bassline. amazing.

young marco made a big impression to a new lot of listeners at the beginning of 2012 with his esp institute debut, nonono / darwin in bahia (played by dixon and james murphy amongst others). the young man from amsterdam now returns with a sister 12inch to his nonono, a perfectly complimentary piece of wax that maintains his esoteric stance on house music, and proves that hes no one-trick pony. video days blends marcos signature analog synth work with tribal rhythms and a loose sense of narrative, while the flipside later than u think takes a more cheeky approach, pairing a blissfully stabbing core melody with a mousey counter-melody and setting it all over some huge tom-heavy drum programming. these songs are the perfect close to a beautiful summer, whether youre lost in euphoria as the sun comes up, or simply dancing around your kitchen in the nude.

the story begins somewhere far away from awareness and rational thought. our main characters plays the roles of lost but not aimless arrows of pictures. pictures made out of sub atomic movements, amplified through breathable air and finally fragmenting its energy into space. we see the the sun go down in the ocean, the purple and red colors and finally the majestic sight of whales plowing the water in the horizon. it has been many years, in fact, so many years that we are now back again to the same point time. it is like an infinite loop, never loosing pace and determination.

founded in 1996, adam beyers drumcode has become synonymous with all that is exciting about techno. having completed a landmark year in 2011 with the labels 15 year anniversary celebrations that included a 12-date club tour and a 28-track various artist compilation, drumcode gets back to the future in 2012 with a busy schedule of releases. followers of the label will recognize lost of familiar names within the schedule with projects confirmed from adam beyer & joseph capriati, ben sims, alan fitzpatrick, kaiserdisco, slam, jay lumen & gary beck, sam paganini and nicole moudaber. having notched up 15 years of service within techno, most followers of the scene would say they know what to expect from drumcode. nononsense, dancefloor orientated techno that has managed to steer a path through the maze of genre hopping trends that to create a sound of their own

cazumas yume is a delicately balanced trip, from a broke, raw groove towards the light. striving upwards all the way, higher through beautifully orchestrated pads, strings and chants. if you flip the record, you will find envie by mr raoul k. if you know raouls sound, you would probably find this one to be on the clubbier tip. bulding from a groove of raouls patented percussive arrangement comes an electronic sandstorm, from tiny stabs through a full on and freaked out break where the mighty beat is totally lost. and then back at it! this is really one of those tracks that you cant help yourself from playing whenever control is lost on the dancefloor, a gateway to the crowds inner animal.

dvs hits the psyche/kraut rock bullseye with >only love<. ably assisted by thomas bullock, this compellingly motorik, spaced out song punctuated by heavily effected blasts of guitar, sounds like a lost classic. the b side features mix 2, a beatless version that lays the vocal and guitar elements bare. superb.

arriving at their fourth release, emotional rescues knowledge of forgotten musical gems and their commitment to give them the chance of wider appreciation they fully deserve cannot be in question! after digging out that bob chance classic, the focus switches to something of an equally balearic nature with the release of jaki whitren & john cartwrights lost folk rock album international times. originally released as a private press on the obscure french label living records back in 1983, this eight track album is filled with dusty soul nuggets which are given extra life by the silky vocal stylings of whitren - formerly a backing singer for alan parson. opening track >stay cool< sounds quite ahead of its time, whilst there are some true dancefloor gems for the more adventurous djs out there, such as the title track and the laid back bump of >go with the flow<.

romes egisto sopor has been making little waves with his releases for quite a while now. since we have known him he has released a cdr album on legowelts strange life records and put a cassette out on the much admired 100% silk label, both under the name polysick. as theawayteam he has released a dvd >relax & sleep< and a cd >star kinship< on japanese label moamoo. he is also one half of the low key video unit aavv, whose work has graced many of the important releases of new lofi electronic movement.
well, here is his first album proper >digital native<, 15 tracks of glowing, nocturnal, analogue grace that hark back to acid house and early techno, but with a mood and intent that seems to be designed for watching images dance on closed eyelids. it is no surprise that his work as a video artist resonates so strongly with the music he makes.

>rispah<, the sophomore album by the invisible and their first for ninja tune, is >a love letter to grief< following the passing of singer dave okumus mother, is imbued with an inevitable melancholy but defined by a sense of hope. throughout, the band reveal their rich creativity and musicianship. echoes run through these songs of african music (including beautifully-woven-in samples of the singers from okumus mothers funeral), psalm tones and devotional music, in a silent way-era miles davis, hints of minimal classical composers such as steve reich and the wilder more psychedelic end of hip hop and related electronic musics.
nothing is ever included for the sake of it, no attempt is made to patronise or sell the audience short. it is a record brimming with real emotion and restless intelligence, a record to get lost in.

asc, one of the main musicians behind the autonomic sound presents his new album >out of sync<, the follow up to 2010s critically acclaimed >nothing is certain< on instra:mentals non plus label.

mr.g is back with a deep and soaring release on the monique musique imprint.the distinct g sound really falls in place on this magnificent release which is tightly produced and filled with that analog action. a slice of true house music spread over 3 jams that are heavy, chordy and soaked with tight percussion. definitely one for the true house heads across the globe.

as ajello say:the idea for a cover version of n.o.i.a.s looking for love was born a couple of years ago - an idea of alessandro piatto, younger brother of davide piatto, original member of n.o.i.a. as soon as alessandro proposed it,we asked whether we could have the original tracks but, unfortunately,they have been lost over the years.immediately his brother davide brought together the original lineup of n.o.i.a.and locked them up in the studio to record the voice from scratch and some of the synth parts. our intervention was first on the drums, replacing the original for a more uptempo beat, and then the bassline, shaping it to a more modern sound. the vocals were treated with filters and echoes,and we also added some new guitar parts and synth lines. it was an honour to us, ajello, to bring to light an italo-disco classic that has really influenced us and we have put all our efforts to create a version that is timeless, as much as the original.

first up is tabou for the people by sofrito specials featuring l barrabas which twitch edited for his dj sets a couple of years back. the lovely people at sofrito kindly gave permission for it to be included on this release. its a relentlessly driving slab of 4/4 afro funk with horn explosions. next up is the 10th and final track in twitchs cumbia series. the first 8 were released on japans lets get lost label and the missing number 9 is being saved for a future release. colombias cumbia was born out of african influences. this track is based around a sample from colombian cumbia legend andres landero and is an attempt to fuse traditional cumbia sounds with up to date production styles. the end result is a slow motion hypnotic cumbia retaining the haunting melancholia inherent in the original sample. leading the aa side, twitch passed a wild highlife song by ghanas atakoru manu to glasgows super talented auntie flo (whose highly recommended future rhythm machine album recently saw a release) to play around with. auntie flo cut it up and added additional drums and bass to come up with this euphoric modern highlife groover
