alessandro diga, a young talented dutch artist, delivers 3 solid techno tracks for the fifth release on the bergwacht record label. “phaedra” starts with a great bassline and goes into a warm melodic techno track with a lot of emotions, dreamy synths and it goes along with a clear hihat. the track is able to be dreamy and not cheesy at the same time. “sonora” is grounded on a rolling bassline and clear hi-hats as well, it goes over in nice effects with outstanding breaks, but it finds back to the starting rhythms. “dahlia” the hidden b-2 track transmits a deep journey with melancholic feelings.

not too long ago a jiffy bag arrived at parkwest hq. in it was a scratched tdk case with a sa-x tape containing a musical message from years past, simply marked the tape i lost! we sat and listened, able to pinpoint influence and reference but yet hearing something totally new. that this tape surfaced and made it across the years and the miles to us was fortunate. when the synth part came through clear on a later version on the tape, allowing us to remix then it became destiny. emotion, melody and rhythm will always be timeless and these tracks, selected from that tape, are as relevant today as they ever were.

british producer reformed society is on a steadfast mission to dig deeper by going against the grain, standing up to the status quo and daring to do something different. a self proclaimed goal that is easily noticeable in his first release for “made of concrete”, wherein he reveals three original tracks and a remix by gathaspar, one of the label’s regulars. kicking things off with “high tension”, a high strung stripped back piece with an aerial feel, the artist builds up the entire mood of the ep from scratch. a clear-cut, steady groove whose versatility makes it relevant as an intro, outro or interlude. gathaspar’s rausch remix is a sub-bassy reinterpretation of the initial piece, filled with contorted whirs and whizzes that give the track a sub- aquatic feel. on “volgende halte”, the opening vocal sample shifts from a seemingly conventional soundbite to a recurringly haunting snippet that remains etched into the listener’s brain. rhythmical rolling pads galvanize the groove, making for an eerie yet relaxed overall vibe. movement inducing from the get go, final offering “orbiting jupiter” centers around wavering bass leads, while playing on a blend of spacious synths and timbered percussion patterns.

ts10 is the 1st ep of the toneseries project. born from the collaboration between french music producer, live performer and dj - david k, and lumièreslanuit s co-founder and an der grenze s founder - edouard morin. however, it isn t clear which artist from their extended crew stands behind this 1st release, as if the berlin-based music label wanted to focus on the music rather on the artist. ts10 consists of two tracks, both deep and groovy. whereas ailleurs disseminates the perfect warm-up groove, desert snowflakes fires off a more dancefloor-driven vibe. with regard to the artwork, as shown on the cover, each track has its own colour. there is neither a a nor a b-side. the same applies to the record vinyl itself. each track stands on it own. as a result, ailleurs and desert snowflakes distinguish themselves from each other through their vibes and colours, although they remain in the same spirit. in summary, toneseries brings together the idea of interdependence between music and design: what colour follows on from music and, in return, which musicality comes out of colours.

paris-based beat x changers brings up to you a new record with a collaborative project in the shape of classic cuts.our new release introduces two new french artists brought together on a split ep: tell from paris and name from the sunny avignon city, both of them backed- up by exclusive remixes from three of our historical beat x producers: neue grafik and pulkone (aka x_1 & monomite). on the a-side, discover tell - a 20-year old jazz drummer - who releases two soulful and melodic tracks. you’ll recognize the heat of the mpc grain, obsessing samples and uplifting breaks. on the b-side, southern producer name offers a disco-like and funky house music via two dancing tracks with a clear reference to the clubbing universe of new york and chicago. this activist dj and experimented producer – he is an ableton teacher on the side – gained recognition in the south of france music scene in the last decade and reached the ears of producer kink.grand Écart (i.e. wide gap or split) recalls the time it took to release this ep. it’s also a geographical gap, a gap between the ideas of the five artists brought together on this release, a gap between our expectations and the reality of some passed – or cancelled – venues in paris. we have always believed in this project and in our flexibility!

wah wah 45s return to the 12- format to bring you three incredible re-works from french disco don the reflex, for our very own legendary canadian/haitian keyboard wiz henri-pierre noel. funky spider dance is a percussion heavy bomb filled to the brim with henri s soaring piano licks and infectious female vocal hooks. the reflex has taken what was already a sure-fire club favourite, and created something of a dance floor destroyer. his rework of a fifth of beethoven takes its time to build into another heavy hitter. as the beats make way for henri s deft keyboard flourishes, the recognition of this cover of the walter murphy classic (taken from the saturday night fever soundtrack) begins to dawn - and as it does, it s clear that once again the dream team of hpn and the reflex have worked their magic! last, but certainly not least, the reflex s revision of back home..., sweet home is a modern island funk masterpiece with organ and tropical guitar riffs making way for sunny brass stabs all underpinned by foot friendly beats. the original versions of funky spider dance and back home..., sweet home can be found on henri s one more step lp, and his take of a fifth of beethoven was recently available on 7-inches of wax - all on wah wah 45s of course. the reflex revisions all appear here together on vinyl, in fact anywhere, for the very first time!

nearly a year after his acclaimed debut ep, every inch of you, a musical project meant as an ode to the memory of a once great man, his grandfather, the enigmatic, rosas nievas, steps up to the plate with a sophomore outing for scissor and thread, going away soon on the a-side, the bombastic opener, wastes no time getting its feet moving with charged up percussion, guitar licks, and playful sampling with a clear ode to the likes of matthew herbert.
