suction records is thrilled and honoured to announce the reissue of d arcangelo s self-titled debut ep for rephlex, the legendary uk label run by aphex twin and grant wilson-claridge from 1991-2013. d arcangelo are the italian duo of brothers fabrizio and marco d arcangelo, active in the underground electronic scene under various aliases since the early 90s, and still going strong today. released in 1996, their rephlex debut -d arcangelo- was one of the first releases to make a firm connection between contemporary idm/electronix and the sound of 80s synth pop. the 3 tracks on side a are ripping, industrial-strength electronix, as fierce, crunchy and menacing anything aphex twin himself had released at the time. in sharp contrast, side b s 3 tracks are playful, clean and melodic instrumental synthpop, with clear synthetic references to bands like depeche mode and omd. it was a sound that was certainly not in fashion at the time, and helped the ep stand out in 1996, for that very reason.

since 87 a 13 year old jan svensson aka villa abo has been the back bone of swedish electronic experimentalist group frak and behind one of the biggest inspirations for butter sessions, borft records. as always, jan keeps pushing the boundaries on this 4 tracker. kicking it off, just a 309 is a stripped-back rough and ready house track in true 90 s borft style. on mission just pam pom we are blasted with space zaps and bizzaro chords melted together with an irresistible beat and sfx from tomorrow. the weird-o-meter is stepped up a few notches on the b side with the sluggish yet hypnotic burn on separated together . a bonus collaborative effort on pony-flute by jan and another frak member duo j encapsulates us with a dramatic introduction of flute like synths and dark atmospheres taking us into the underworld..

for the second vinyl we are excited to have argentinean artist may and her ep 30 segundos. 30 segundos captures the spirit of summertime house music. when the sun is out, we shake off remnants of winter malaise. the light changes, skies open, horizons widen, the body warms. and our perspectives shift. you look up and see distance, every second a lifetime. each track offers a slightly different view on house music. the title track is bright and energetic, where drums and synths tumble forward. cometa pushes the bassline to the forefront driving track forward while the synths and percussion dance around it. on the b side leonel castillo remixes the title track into 9 minutes of shimmering, propulsive house music.

with just one 7inch release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, jive baby on a saturday night, the cult of the jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by sonic youth s thurston moore no less. picked up and reissued by the stellar trunk records in 2010, the b-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. now emotional rescue are proud to license the conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after jive baby had been completed. however, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. with just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful version for the flip. with both members of the jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early 80s british dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

having originally surfaced on dj deep s deeply rooted house label back in 2011, the appropriately named bleak brings his stern ekko track back into focus on his own naura label, inviting two titans of contemporary techno to do the remix business on the track. first up is skudge, who get things marching at an urgent pace with their usual knack for ear snagging sonic hooks and unrelenting kick drums. meanwhile markus suckut makes a more weighty interpretation of the track, slowing the tempo and adding all kinds of sub pressure to make for a truly killer workout. as a bonus, the original track is present on the b-side in all its mean-tempered glory.

supérieur goes for round two after its relaunch in autumn last year. some of you might be surprised that we re breaking up with the single release concept of having one original and one remix, but we believe the time has come to do so. supérieur will be more independent in the future, with an own artist roaster and also with a different sound than the one deliver with connaisseur. this release is by the highly respected south german producer and dj hans thalau, partisan of the techno soul approach, which was celebrated for years by russ gabriel and his ferox recordings crew. it comes as no suprise that hans and russ are friends. hans -soul adventure ep- is a timeless affair. three tracks full of emotional deepness and classiness, and probably thal communications mastermind best works so far. we re rather proud to be able to release these tunes, as they do strike our chord exactly.

peripheral minimal is proud to present the new 12inch by the french electronic pioneer, philippe laurent, entitled, phoenix. this will be philippes second release on peripheral minimal after the infectious synthetic classic 12inch, mithra. phoenix is a three track ep featuring two brand new tracks on the a-side, phoenix (featuring philippe s trademark robotic vocals), and, agapao. meanwhile over on the b-side, we have the 13-minute electronic opus and highly representative of his early work, exposition 4, a never before released track from philippes extensive archive, and recorded in 1982. the e.p. is representative of philippe s latest forays into contemporary synth music, but still with a retro futurist edge and influenced partly by german pioneers kraftwerk/late 70s kosmische and au courant electro/synthwave acts, fitting into the current enthusiasm for early 80s synth pop and minimal wave. the ep is presented on white vinyl and limited to 300 copies. mastering by martin bowes @ the cage.

after a long hiatus the fasaan recordings crew finally emerges from their basement to break out a second volume of their chalice imprint. functioning as a looser side vehicle to fasaan, chalice is a home for rawer and more uncompromising side projects of the fasaan crew and their extended family. honing in on a murky zone of cheap-sounding machine rhythms and punchy boogie-influenced proto-house sounds, the chalice style is in your face and then out the door just like that: take it or leave it.

daisuke kondo from okayama, japan, releases a 12inch vinyl rongorongo. dynamic rhythm and dubby multi-layered house groove are equipped in side a 1 o-n-ra. side a 2 turn is a dance track that has tribal rhythm and cosmic scale. on the side b, two cool similar versions remixed by a young genius keita sano, which feel raw, are recorded. he is from okayama as well, and has released his works from various labels around the world, such as mister saturday night or crue-l, now attracting a lot of attention. the low sound that sounds like it is boosting speakers feels comfortable. this is a special single produced by two youngsters from the same town.

kid drama’s debut metalheadz release is one that is set to shake up this 4-year-old alias as he heads in a direction that’s slightly more focussed on the dancefloor, whilst managing to subtly retain some of the elements that have seen him become so loved in the deeper and more experimental side of drum and bass. the ‘trife ep’ proves how much of a talent kid drama is, from the savage bassline in ‘brutal d’ to the late 90s techstep vibes of ‘articulation’ all the way to ‘payback’, which is a track that could have easily come out under his and boddika’s instra:mental moniker. this is an extremely well-rounded project and one we’re delighted to be releasing on metalheadz.

though quality techno is regularly associated with the colder climates of berlin and detroit, the recent developments happening on the iberian peninsula have been hard to ignore. one of the region’s more interesting and consistent producers in this decade has been maceo plex, owner of the ellum audio label. armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of signature club sounds, and with an ability to investigate ‘darker’ side of modern life (a tendency that can be heard especially well on past plex-produced tracks like “conjure balearia”), plex has located the “goldilocks zone” between funk liberation and mechanical control. mastering this balancing act is a skill that separates the best producers from the legions of also-rans: it shines through in his back catalog and is back in full force for his new “tesseract” ep on ellum.

the first release of -syncretism- is a strong declaration of techno made by cressida. the ep includes 4 tracks, 3 written and produced by cressida and 1 additional mix is made by uvb. all the tracks have got a solid raw sound, an excursion between the hardest industrial, the classic uk acid sounds and new wave. the first track, toxic masculinity, is a punching tune characterized by raw drums, rough synth and break sequencies. second track, the uvb testosterone mix, represents the masculinity killer track, with a screaming human being in a dark environment. third track, snakecharmer, is the anthem killer track characterized by acid and big room sounds. neurotic x represents the other side of the label where the artist experiments his tone bringing you in a post industrial and wave scenario.

its the third album on our label and this time we grabbed on the other side of the ocean! the mexican techno native israel toledo, who lives these days in germany, is the man of now and gives us full-on electricity with - 9 volts.

la-4a returns to delft for his first release on the label since last year s phonautograph lp. the a side comprises two beatdown acid house jams, with two versions of the raucous electro cut -snake eyes- on the flipside. heavy and uncompromising tracks that are not for the faint of heart. sick release!

physical therapy assembles a flurry of kicks and thick breaks around deep subs and tender harmonies. lush moments are balanced with saturated rhythms, pushing the momentum in each tune. spoken words skip over dubbed out synths on more sugar, always a euphoric treat on the dance floor! on the b-side, pt flexes for the verdant tropical techno of string thing. play at 45 for the desensitized mix or slow things down to 33 for a balearic sensitized mix. both mixes available direct from the sounds of beaubien ouest bandcamp.

he second volume from discos del quebranto continues to explore the deranged end of electronics. a-side finds colours of infinity aka andy donnelly, who runs the hidden waves label, delving into slow, sludgy territory while on the reverse, obscure wave digger blackmoon77 takes the production reins for a full industrial immersion.

four triangles launches with the tracking ep from oasis pyramid. a collection of deep and raw techno and electronic experiments that cut through the darker and more abrasive side of of the spectrum.

daywalker & cf follow-up 2015 s shimmer and supersonic transport with more cosmic synth noodling and a club ready tune on bank records. entro senestre and willie burns always manage to hold together musical continuity while aimlessly jamming in burns smoky studio. it is their forte. with that being said, their style is not genre specific. one thing is for sure, the music is going to be trippy and synth driven. the title track wave force is a driving dance track built for big rooms, reminiscent of supersonic transport. the b-side features the producers implementing freaky synth lines and spacey sound effects on rhythm wolf. the final track, between worlds is somber. the track welcomes the occasional misplayed note along with sappy synth riffs. another solid release by daywalker & cf. cover photo by florian kupfer.

reda dare comes back with his own brand new imprint, reda dare records. for this ep, he decided to press three of his smoothest tunes. the wax’s a-side is the one and only ‘albadare’, representing his classic strict groovy mindset and bouncy harmonies. then comes ‘orgy of the dead’ an old school hip-hop inspired house track, with a heavy bassline and a festive rhythm. finally, the vinyl ends with ‘x’ a spookier vibe that’s perfect to set the dance floor back on track. this limited issue is a collection of reda dare’s finest over the years, don’t miss out ,)

salty shores of a deep blue sea, mountain tops with blinding hats and wrapped up greenery in reoccurring patterns. three places, two journeys, heavenly lit in gentle warmth by the feathered sun. a collaboration of impressive beauty and beautiful impressions: acid pauli, christopher schwarzwalder, jo.ke, nu and raz ohara take us, you, me, luise by the hand to paint a picture of shifting shapes and scenerey. two slow paced tracks, one per side, for that extra length and space it deserves.

if god had a disco, the dj would be playing california gospel-soul group the supreme jubilees. “we won’t have to cry no more,” the tuxedo-clad group would sing, in high, angelic vocals over smooth grooves. “it’ll all be over.” prepare to dance and contemplate death all at the same time.

following the success of the now sold out freundchen ep, true romance revisits the disco anthem with this hot hot hot trio of remixes, right in time for the summer. on the a side, red rack’em puts freundchen through his cut and paste wizardry delivering a heavily filtered, bass heavy, hypnotic disco version. on the flip, lauer cranks up the groove and unleashes the pianos for a classy house rendition that oozes sunshine and smiles. russian producer phil gerus’s gets gritty on his take, bringing the track on a mad chopped up italo road.

paper recording are back on vinyl with a fantastic debut 12- from italian duo soundersons, who have come up through the underground bologna house scene. can t get enough is a deep electro-funk slice of nu disco with diana g on vocals. it s got 80s synths and squelches, vocal hooks a plenty, clonking percussion, rhodes and that metro area / tom tom club vibe. parts i and ii are split in to vocal and instrumental over one side on continuous play for maximum dance floor action. on the flip, the mighty dj spinna brings his a game with a deep nyc take that is underground house at it s best. he uses synths, arps and the vocal to slowly build the remix that hits it s peak at the end. finally education finished things off with a raw disco cut up that hits the floor running and keeps going full pelt. one for the dancers.

next up on hell yeah is -the most balearic record i have ever released- according to label boss & it comes from japan s disco don max essa which features a four part track, themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely, on one side of vinyl, and two more on the flip. essa was born matthew bruce and the uk artist has now been releasing his blissed out beats on labels like feel music, electric minds, bear funk and is it balearic? recording for a decade. a prolific producer whose big hits like panorama suite/uptown vibration (is it balearic?) from 2010 have long been in the hell yeah boss s record bag, essa first approached the label with a bunch of tracks. a good correspondence alchemy ensued and together the artist and label decided to put out the most timeless 12inch possible. the exquisitely ambitious themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely is almost 12 minutes of serene ambient synth work that is like a soundtrack to a hot summer s day. heavenly chords sound just like a breathy female vocal and as they come and go, one finger piano tinkles add real emotional beauty and gentle twinkles shimmer in the distance. half way through lazy drums propel things along at a loveably lethargic pace and immediately place you on the beach. on the flip, saguaro is just as organic and beautiful, but has tumbling drums, wooden hits and soft claps as well as essa s magical synth work all bathing your soul in warm rays. b2 buran chime is perfectly horizontal and expansive, with tinkling triangles, angelic chords and scattered hits and harpsichord sounds all radiating effusively. this is timeless music that will calm busy minds now and forever.

released in 1983, guy cuevas 12inch single -obsession- is probably one of the best french disco-boogie records, enriched by jean-paul goude s artwork for the cover. the a-sides nassau mix by fran?ois k is a sensual and airy journey, while the b-side s london mix offers a more realistic approach that will please the more classic-listening disco enthusiasts. huge tip!!

with the next and twelfth installment of tiefenrausch the dub techno label sets foot on the new continent again. the deep sea journey is joined by san fransisco based artist federsen and brendon moeller aka echologist or beat pharmacy - who contributed a remix to the three track ep. “the myth ep” represents federsen raw and analogue signature sound. warm and distorted machine noises create the pad for minimal drum patterns, bass grooves and accentuated chord echoes. on the a-side federsen shows us his unique style with “contrasts”. brendon moeller on the other hand contributes his own sound and rounds up the ep with dubbed interpretation of federsens “murmer”. the ep ends with the original version of that track. the release is designed by alex ketzer who joins in for a collaboration with the illustrators magdalena paz and florian gassmann for the next releases of the tiefenrausch label. the audio is mastered by salz music and the ep comes on 180g vinyl and shrink wrapped.

arriving as the first release of the new sublabel series figure jams, this split ep by fabrizio lapiana and amotik serves not only as a crafty cut in its own right but also showcases a particular type of package, which figure will be facilitating from now on. the a-side is taken up by a pair of lapiana’s irresistably dense grooves that unmistakebly tread in the footsteps of his homeland’s highly emotional techno, unafraid of big melodies but also injecting just the right amount of twisted acid to set the floor ablaze. this sense of grandeur and space is also reflected in the work of fast-rising producer amotik. painting with his very own colours as an equally epic scenery, its bleak and post-apocalyptic landscape dominated by broken industrial beats and hypnotically swirling synths.

following their eponymously titled 2016 arrival on midlands graded imprint, as well as a recent followup on dark entries, solitary dancer return to the label on which they made their debut. once again, this three-track 12inch blends electro, ambient, and acid to superb, undeniably modern effect. with a running time of nearly 12-minutes, the title track transmitting to heaven is an ambitiously sweeping cut that subtly moves through its various shades, from electro and acid, to strobe-lit 90s rave. the b-side kicks off with birth of saturn, built around an arpeggiating synth that shifts and morphs throughout the track as the intensity ascends. the 12inch closes off with ‘at the end of the corridor of love, a loss’, a slow burning ambient piece that is as sombre as it is cinematic.

mei zhiyong had been instrumental in arranging dp’s tour of china. when mei zhiyong and dave phillips first met in beijing in july 2014, mei spoke not a word of english and dp not a word of chinese. and they we were to embark on an 18 city tour together. verbal communication between mei and dp was obviously difficult to say the least. it would often result in comical misunderstandings, total puzzlement or bewilderment, but it would also be a source of constant amusement with wonderful moments of instinctive trust. but then there is sound, the ultimate language… to return the favor, dp arranged a tour for mei and himself in october 2015 through 20 european cities. which is where the source material was recorded. dp then selected, dissected and transformed those recordings to work out something different, not just a collaboration, not just an amalgam of two styles, but something new for both. the compositions on this lp are the result.
