10 track minimal ambient album >about the cycle of life and both its sundry and seemingly important moments.< beautiful release, drenched in melancholia. nice!
manmakemusic continue their adventure into the musical hinterland beyond bass, techno, house and garage with two cuts from new signing, trikk. hailing from porto, portugal, and a recent addition to londons kaleidoscopic music scene, trikk effortlessly marries old school charm with new school edge. a-side, ‘jointly’, takes robert hood-esque jackin’ techno drums and unites them with twisted garage vocal chops and relentless bass. on the flip, ‘i fall down’ takes things down a gear with an emotive mix of cavernous synth lines, heartbroken vocals and skipping drums which harks back to the finest moments of broken beat.
(mdh + floris regoort + m.i.r.k.o. + klankarbeit) theres so much great new music and new talent around these days, that for his new hey! release, michel de hey took a few of these new skool kids under his wings. nice way for hey! to start 2012!
uncanny valley continues to introduce more artists from the valley with their own solo ep.with uv008 its credit 00 whos put on the map. the dresden resident delivers four ice cold chicago inspired cuts, with hints of acid and electro, straight out of his machines which will make every synth aficionados mouth water.another me is, by credits standards,an almost intimate jam, which shows that house can be a decent funky affair.in the cave problem youll get an extensive bassline before synths that seem to come directly out of a hurdy-gurdy from hell add the right dose of gloom.the b-side is started off with the living room, a hard rocking track that comes like an acoustic exploration of sophisticated sound and drum ideas. the final brios theme is a weird and slightly menacing sci-fi work that only needs a proper movie.and again a new cover artist, credits longtime buddy geprg hpfmann.
after releasing one of this years most highly touted punk rock albums, make do and mend have decided to tone down their driving and blistering post-hardcore sound on the new acoustic ep >part and parcel<.
boasting three acoustic versions of songs from their breakthrough debut full-length end measured mile as well as a touche amore cover, and two brand new songs, part and parcel has been on the bands mind for quite some time. >it s something we have talked about doing for a while,< admits vocalist/guitarist james carroll. >we wanted to explore the versatility of our songs and also explore our boundaries as songwriters.<
the make or break ep flawlessly exhibits the unique genre crossing production style of maxxi soundsystem. catchy classic vocals, powerful house grooves and an infusion of genres ranging from vintage new york and chicago to garage and modern day disco sum up maxxi soundsystems first ever ep and needwant debut.
man make musics second release is a collaboration between two talented londoners, jack dixon and rick grant. having already made waves with individual releases on labels such as brownswood, hypercolour and take, these two good friends now offer up a pair of brilliantly off-kilter house tracks. >running man< is a heady mix of skipping percussion and caressing juno synth-lines, whilst, on the flip, >muted< takes a more understated, melancholic turn, counterbalancing the ecstatic nature of the a-side. jack and ricks contributions are also offset by kevin mcphees weird and wonderful slow-mo interpretation of >running man<. the remix blends vocals drenched in reverb with creeping piano riffs and shows yet another musical side of a man garnering plaudits from all corners for his unique style.
for this first brandt brauer frick remix ep, we asked two very special and hard-to-catch producers to give their own versions of the bands music. ladies and gentleman, welcome pepe bradock and leonel castillo!
his single comes to people that make the music records from one of house musics most eminent production teams: first ibiza lady alla farmer, mateo & matos and ukrainian singer and producer vincent inc, chris gray from deep4life, jazzy house veteran john crockett and uplifting deep king brendan mccarthy aka aquatherium. though not stereo-typically their style, this set of tunes give good credence to their soft house music production ability. they set the scene for sounds entering as a funky bassline, squealy guitar riff, and classic 4/4 drum loop. john remix consist mainly of dubby bubbly conga rhythms, cosmic chords, floaty synths, musical saw tones and a nice rubbery bassline. aquatherium remix is pure non-intrusive, house music that is great for the sunset beach session or even the roller disco! chris & alla made eclectique deep house which is just a dope! the remixed single tracks have been mixed together to give it a beefy blend that would be perfect for the floor of many poorly lit dance dwellings. people that make the music has stepped forward with a brilliant ep of insatiable grooves.
fresh-faced berlin imprint, casual lab, launch their new house and techno stable with a double track and remix package from a new collaborative force. for casual lab, the italian veteran luigi gori has teamed up with one of its rosters rising stars sin tek aka 28- year-old anis hachemi to produce an infectious techhouse floor-filler. berlin stalwart marc poppcke offers a sultry deep house remix of the pairs debut collaboration for casual lab, dimming the lights and upping the groove to provide a glimpse of the citys smoldering club circuit. gog piaf wraps up the debut ep with another crisp, polished house offering from berlins effervescent pool of untapped talent. informed by nine years of classical training, gog piafs productions blend technicality with a far ranging source of influences and styles enough to charm any dancefloor.
deep house/us garage veterans mateo & matos have been around longer than the ark. yet they remain capable of great things, as >want u tonight< proves. its a deliciously dizzy deep house concoction that marries contemporary production (see the beefy bottom end) with the twittering synth melodies and loopy organ hooks of old new york house and garage (think nu groove meets henry street). studio54s remix is classic new york deep disco house, while trevor loveys version has more of a uk jazzy house swing. all the mixes are wonderfully slick and groovesome. swayzak & phreek plus one deep symphoniac mixes is wonderful for morning and chill gigs.
