for the latest edition of the intriguing dessert islands discs re-edit series, the label has called upon the well-renowned scalpel talents of german-in-amsterdam marcel vogel, aka em vee. the double denim-sporting eccentric drops another gem in the shape of *white heat shake it out (edit)*, a bouncy and seductive disco chop-job that makes great use of the source materials bustling groove and steamy, spoken word vocals. on the flip, lesser-known re-edit heads papi del pancake and claude von reefer take up the challenge. their *gimme what you got* has a little more deep house shuffle, but retains the key instrumentation and feel of a sumptuous disco-soul jam.

paper disco are back on vinyl ahead of their forthcoming trash the wax vol. 2 and two totally exclusive tracks. leon sweet launches things with sunny bigler that has a moroder style bass and plaintive male vocal designed to make grown men cry on dance floors. italian master blaster shares the same side rocking his trademark edit chops with games whch will only be seeing the light of day on this wax. turn it over and yam who makes an appearance with natasha watts and paper tea boy chris massey on remix duties. its floor heavy 4/4 disco with modern production and dynamics that will slot in to any discerning box. the second exclusive comes from oslo young bucks de fantastiske to who offer up a more house take on disco. gimme sum dim sum has a shuffling backbeat, lush keys and chords to give it an organic garage feel that tips a wink to the best that new york has to offer.

the occasional (but always excellent) street edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from chicago re-edit hero rahaan. as usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. -city of disco- is in many ways typical of rahaan s work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). there s more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable -strung out-, which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. best of all, though, is -brighten you up-, which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house, a proto-proto gem, perhaps. either way, it s a killer.

having previously kept their re-edit series in-house, leeds-based crate-diggers joe s bakery have invited moton (aka london veterans diesel and dave jarvis) to deliver the latest release. those who ve followed the moton records inc series (active since the 90s) will know what to expect: expert re-rubs of obscure material that get the right balance between dancefloor chops and home listening selections. look out for the odd shuffle and electric piano solos of -moody blues-, the percussive early 80s, synth-heavy live disco brilliance of -zoo- (yes, it s definitely balearic) and the hazy, midtempo disco-funk of -bumps-. it s getting progressively hard to find worthwhile re-edit 12- singles, but this one s a genuine killer

featuring three more raw versions based on original tracks from 2000 & one, french fries and rodhad, dj edits volume 4 arrives just in time for the festive season. precision edited, endorsed and club-tested by len faki, the package offers yet another chance to delve into the record bag of the figure label head.
