theres a lot of techno out there but none of it sounds like stanislav tolkachev. in the past few years the prolific ukrainian producer has molded his love for old school techno with enormous doses of experimentation and tension.

uk techno stalwart steve bicknells lost recordings series must be one of the longest running in dance music, the lost and cosmic founder has been putting out previous unheard material from his early 90s heyday on and off since 2004. there are few surprises on this 10th edition, but plenty of slamming, no-holds-barred grooves. the hissing, spacey, cymbal-heavy track 3 is particularly trippy, while theres a gnarled, ragged intensity about the pulsating heaviness of track 1. arguably best of all, though - ambient interlude track 2 aside - is track 4, an eerie techno shuffler built around a wonky, off-key electric piano loop and fizzing percussion.

apart from the rush and hype all around electronic music these days, charmly embraced by the mighty black forrest, is the center of the badnerland, good old freiburg in germany. at first it may be hard to believe that there is more than just sunshine and wine this far south, but you would be surprised by the ever growing request for electronic music in this region. so at this point it just feels right to finally come up with a strong label throughout this exciting movement, you have guessed it: solide.

there are two front-cover artworks on one record: one by stefan marx, one by alex solman info: back in 2012, benjamin brunn played a heartbreaking ambient liveset at the almighty golden pudel club, hamburg. his set was recorded and released as a cd on pudel produkte. as it was the perfect soundtrack for the lazy days at smallville recordstore, we all felt the urge to release this on vinyl- and during a blurry smallville night at pudel, we decided to do it. benjamin cut out two parts of 20 minutes each and here it is as a limited recordstore day 2015 item. there are 2 front covers on this fullcover sleeve- one from stefan marx and one from alex c.i.a solman, the king of pudel-related artworks and mfoc.

london based us producer lance de sardi joins the hudd traxx fray for the last 12inch before the label hits 50 releases and commence the 10th anniversary celebrations. although there s only three cuts on west country, de sardi more than shows his diversity as a producer and it s a fine addition to a discography that dates back to the 90s.pariah kicks the ep off in fine style with smooth beats, an infectious vocal and lush pads ensure that this will be a big one for the heads. flip for the b side and find a tough acidy number in youth, and a groovy track in race the clock which is made for the dance floor. 2015 is already proving to be a big year for hudd traxx following releases from iron curtis & nachtbraker, and lance de sardi keeps the flag flying high with this solid ep.

the second wrltd vinyl is from the collaboration between wunderblock and michael chernev a.k.a arcuation. the ep starts with the amazing remix from darren roberts a.k.a. deepbass. it presents his unique dark hypnotic sound combined with the effective driven techno groove. samuele costa a.k.a. scam. delivers the second remix, which is also dark and atmospheric with some propulsive jacking dubbed out drums. on the b-side, there are 2 remixes from wunderblock: mikroplexmix, with its mesmerising swirling atmosphere and punching rhythm, and more relaxing, deep and spaced-out remix with co-production of vladimir kochenov a.k.a. acrob, also the member of wunderblock crew.

in part 2 of the laffer ep marco bernardi is going head down, straight ahead and striving for energy. attack of the dessert stormers is an overload of dark electro power, six minutes of squirming bassline-driven movement with surges of intensity from analogue bleeps and subtle drum pattern shifts. theres no let up on the flip side where two sliders brings equal force but in a more techno style. right from the start youll be grabbed by the bassline, but this one rewards extended listening as the track develops progressively with new melodies and metallic touches taking you deeper and deeper.

this four track ep kicks off with cladistic mutation , a sparse underwater soundtrack with only the gentlest suggestion of rhythm, lots of reverb and tiny little details that float by like micro-bacterial debris. m2 is a more beat driven dub track but is still way below the surface: the kicks are smooth and hunched over, the chords are smeared out in all directions and the atmosphere is lo-fi and grainy. on the flip, grain gets even more energetic, with firm techno kick drums setting a stern tempo as all sorts of aqueous details and spacious effec ts peppe r the groove. there s a heavenly nature to the pads and an industrial texture to the percussion that makes this a cerebral but physical affair from start to finish. lastly, neurowaves closes things down in blissfully dubbed out and horizontal fashion, with large sweeping pads, tweaked filters and evocative little details all placing you firmly under water.

reissue of elias rahbani & his orchestras super rare arabic disco holy grail *liza liza* on the original lebanese voix de l orient label. recorded pre-civil war at a time when beirut was known as the paris of the middle east, a luxurious holiday destination and flourishing trade centre. the title track is totally out of this world, perfectly blending eastern & western vocals, instruments and musical influences with a driving disco bassline to create an irresistible floor filling cosmic odyssey. the flipside features the even more out-there *from the moon* a fantastic tripped out psychedelic disco funk monster, followed by the dreamy accordion-led *summer love*. also boasting one of the sexiest covers in disco history further illustrating the liberal thinking and western influence in lebanon at the time. highly recommended!

the a1 was never a big surprise. mattias fridell s consumed for profit was one of the tracks of the year, and surely fridell s personal best track, and was played by anyone who at least plays a bit of techno in their sets. the usual fridell quality of standard and a tight synth line! a2 sees french artist electric rescue s quarries in the a. mochi remix. a peak-time banger, slapping the synth stabs right into your face. this one always gets the floor jumping. the b-side kicks off with label-head advance human s pure , stripping things down to some essential moody but slamming techno, right up there amongst his best productions. b2 has +platform s mosses closing things off, and as we came to know and love from +platform, it s out there, dubby and dreamy techno, born for those deeper berghainesque floors.

the music strahil velchev alias kink creates for the 12-inch format is as playful and fanciful as it is functional and precise. his first outing for running back is no exception. inspired by the hardware of the same name, his cloud generator ep makes the most use of that. computer nerd symphonies and cyberpunk melodies for clubs, roofless raves and virtual racing games. wilhelm reich and william gibson would enjoy this. oh, and there is a breakbeat mix on here as well.

master londons joseph russel signs for funkdriven quirky chicago techno but a 1, drums of lagos, stands out of many. what starts like a sturdy minimalist drum and snare pattern monotrack turns inti a discotech monster all at once and seemingly oout of almost nowhere. and once the surprise swingbreak of the track gets you hooked there no stopping.

the detroit music community has outposts in nearly every major city, and vancouver, british columbia is no exception. this ep represents the connection of two such artists, detroit native, josh garrett, who currently resides in vancouver and runs the subspec label, and rennie foster, a stalwart of the underground, who has spent a quarter of his life in tokyo, but born in bc and now living back there, in vancouver. rennie has released on a myriad of detroit labels, such as transmat, teknotika, soiree, subject detroit, wallshaker, and motech. josh and rennie met in vancouver, only since rennies recent return, and realizing they were of the same tribe, immediately began to collaborate on a number of projects, now including this limited run, double a-side, record, chalk full of dj friendly techno trax, firmly rooted in the motor city sound, yet unique enough to be a contributor, not just another imitator.

henrik bengtsson from swedish helsingborg is the man behind this alias. other outfit is goz mongo alliance whith a sound from the uk era 79-81. with this soloproject there is only old drummmachines and crappy synth involved and some small lyrics too.. and.. this is brain-disco, mekano style!
