cut a. kaos has been in the music and dj business since many years. last summer, he actively returned into techno with the purpose to create a new album. in other words, he targeted a genuine techno album containing two parts. the first one is a retrospective view to the origins of techno, consequently deep tech is accompanied by clear acid structures, exhibited by artists such as the martian, beltram or the old umek stuff. although many styles are aggregated, they are all pure techno. niereich, austrias number one techno artist, contributed a brilliant remix of *because it s acid*! another artist, edelstahl, produced a remix of *walk and talk*, which resulted in a hard and fat monster!

the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

labelowner dorian paic is teaming up with his good friend felipe valenzuela from chile. since more than a year they are producing and collecting tracks for their ep and came up with these two minimalistic house grooves. the title track of the ep -almost there- get s a nice rework by michael melchner.

italian band n.o.i.a. was amongst the first electronic music groups to emerge in the late seventies and early eighties alongside peers like kraftwerk and depeche mode. nowadays they are re-releasing their back catalogue alongside a carefully curated selection of contemporary remixes and this latest package features rule to survive with a remix from prins thomas.

ltd repress, whoever knows of toi toi musik will know they have become synonymous with underground quality and for keeping things close and personal for their events and agency. well, with their new label its no different they stay very true to their identity (a good mix of english and german) and their quality. the 1st ep is produced by the legendary mr g. inspired after playing live at one of their events he wrote the track toi toi, which was later released on djulzs bassculture label. as a consequence, his relationship with the couple is so personal he nurtured them to open their own label and offered them 3 tracks for tt01 called much love ep. the 4th track is a remix by hello? repeat co-owner daze maxim, who has been a guest resident for the party for nearly its entire existence.

the love for music and vinyl were not only crucial factors that marius lehnert has established itself as a dj, but they are still the basics. through his residency at the infamous club rocker 33 stuttgart marius has received the first major attention. his last release on blufin got a big hype, not only becuase oft he remixes by egbert and fairmont. after a few releases more from marius lehnert he strated to produce with its buddy marc shepherd, first just for fun. but this 2 tracks made it on the new ep investigation of cavity, this time with a superb remix by roland m. dill.

the man behind the end of level boss label, cyclonix, delivers 2 club tracks just the way we like them. already tried and tested in the clubs by our man cottam, who fell in love with the tracks on first listen. they demand to be played in the early hours of the morning in dark basements from nottingham to leyland and beyond. label boss cottam takes over the b side with a leisurely walk back from the supermarket taking the scenic route for no apparent reason.

we are thrilled to release the debut ep by the mysterious and mystifying glasgow-based dub-pop duo laps (ladies as pimps). lady two collars (golden teacher) and sue zuki (organs of love) wowed us with their exciting mix of vocals, acid, dub and hip hop. using out-there dub recording techniques and instrumentation fused with a tasty pop sensibility, they make an original and experimental blend of underground dance memes. there is an incredible breadth of sounds over the seven-track record, making it an excellent choice for any dancefloor. the ep also features guest collaborations with some of glasgow s best musicians, including golden teacher, sinead young, duncan young, and an excellent remix by green door studio.

neueheimat is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabel manege with his debut release *quartier3*. neueheimat was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell. after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wished to start his own, new project and truly realise his creativity. conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls. influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. neueheimat and subsequently *quartier3 ep* are characterised by dennis clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression. large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), *quartier3* is a significant milestone in dennis production history.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

modelmaker is a new london label from the collective minds of dan berkson and james what. the esteemed house duo has long been garnishing a range of international imprints with their inventive analogue house and techno sounds, but now they are focussing on their own outlet. initially launching with a couple of self penned eps, release number three will be the pair s long-time-in-the-making debut album, and after that a considered selection of other talents will join the ranks as the label pushes on. always primarily focussed on machine made, texturally rich house and techno, each release will come with unique artwork based on works from what s great grandfather, conrad felixmuller, who was a well known german expressionist.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

on this new 12 inch, we present 3 big names of the digging scene: tokyo matt from the otaku soundsystem originally based in hong-honk, and mori ra & asn from tokyo oyama edit, well know for their releases on curt jackson rotating soulss label. the 4 edits they are presenting are just out of this world. all very atmospherics, they are the ideal combination of space disco, balearic rock, jazz, pop and fusion. another ep to take very seriously.

this edit of malis amadou & mariam ce nest pas bon (originally created in 2008 for my dj sets) was supposed to be included on the recently released third autonomous africa 12inch. unfortunately i didnt get permission to use it in time for that release but permission has now been given, so rather than wait for aa 004 in 2015 it is going to come out as a limited edition hand stamped 10inch as soon as possible. all proceeds will once again go to the mtandika mission in tanzania -www.actioninafrica.org/about-mtandika.php a big thanks to ben ufo and midland for championing this edit. the interest they generated directly led to the motivation for this release.

at the 2014 sxsw festival in austin, texas, bacardi turned the movements of 100.000 wild bats into an exclusive music track. using bespoke motion tracking technology, the team used the swarming of the bats to trigger unique beats and mix the tracks tone and tempo as they flew. this limited vinyl pressing of 200 copies on 180 gram vinyl features three craig richards remixs of that track

rothmans is back with there 7th release and this time they pay homage to german playmaker paul breitner . the ep comes in the form of rising manchester producer ste spandex , fresh off the back of his remix of coyote our on rothmans 6 , and has been recorded 100% live on analogue eqiupment , not a computer in sight !!!! . the ep finds rothmans taking a slightly different and more up tempo vibe to it but still retains the psychadelic nu disco feel of many of there earlier releases. spandex has had a little help from his friends in the form of kickin pigeon and metrodome , both fresh out of the manchester underground. this is rothmans first all manchester release and sees them really cemeting the label in there surroundings.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

umkhosi wokweshwama, the celebration of the first fruits among zulus and the sweet name of the first disc at big brothers. this young parisian collective focuses on storytelling, multimedia and smashing ! they feel good in the confusion of styles and the audacity of an approach. their aesthetic is complex because before mind they look for senses. this vinyl is a cycle, it was born in the spring. look at its front, its back, listen to its a-side, its b-side and enjoy the massive flavor of the summer. at that period, a year ago, big brothers was conceiving this baby.

roots go deep are a label devoted to releasing music by south african artists. since 2012 they ve released seven eps by names like d.nel, makhen gigga and label owners ofuren and fred buddah. now that they ve established themselves in the digital realm of music, roots go deep arrive on the physical medium with a split ep of deep and dubby sounds from ofuren and fred buddah. the two provide two collaborative tracks in -floral synergy- - a woozy house jam in line with mcde s raw cuts - and -do deejays dream of dancing sheep-, a sublime mix of subaqueous chords, chilled out drums and touch of acid. buddah just about goes ambient on his solo track -ragan- while ofuren keeps it heads down and uber-dub on -ripples through reflection-. roots go deep indeed.
